Masterpiece Cakeshop Baker Also Refused To Put Rainbows On A Little Girl's Birthday Cake

"He took this whole thing to a personal level."

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments earlier this month in the case of a bakery owner who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because it was against his religion. But a new report shows that owner Jack Phillips' resentment toward rainbows goes even deeper than we thought.

A mother in Littleton, Colorado who asked to not be identified told Denver7 News that when she called Masterpiece Cakeshop in February to order a 17-layer rainbow-themed birthday cake for her daughter, Phillips refused.

The woman said she eventually realized that the bakery and Phillips were making national news and was disturbed to see that "he took this whole thing to a personal level."

"She's not gay, or anything, but she is an artist and she's really good at what she does," the mother said about her daughter. "She uses every color and she wanted a rainbow birthday cake and he wouldn't do it."

Phillips told Denver7 that the bakery doesn't have a problem putting rainbows on the outside of a cake, but that they will not do a rainbow-themed layer cake on the inside. He then said that all further questions needed to be directed to his attorney.

The woman explained that she eventually ordered a peach cake, but said she will never shop at the bakery again.

"A rainbow is for everybody," she said. "It doesn't matter who it is."

The Supreme Court heard oral arguments in Masterpiece Cake vs. Colorado Civil Rights Commission on December 5, but an outcome will not be announced until next year.
