Matt Bomer Reveals He Was Almost Cast As Superman A Decade Ago

During a chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Magic Mike XXL star Matt Bomer revealed that he was once cast as Superman over a decade ago.

That iteration, which turned out to be 2006's Superman Returns, saw Bomer competing with Paul Walker and Brendan Fraser, who were all in contention to play the caped crusader opposite Amy Adams (whom Bomer screen tested with "in the tights").

Bomer eventually landed the role–albeit briefly.

Brett chose me for the project and then it all fell apart. It was a very lengthy process to get the role, I think it was over the course of three months because I went in in a cattle call. It sort of evolved from there.

It was a month of, 'Okay, looks like this is going to happen'. And then it slowly fell apart. But it's okay. I have zero regrets about that, I feel like I've gotten to do such a rich array of roles in so many different things and I haven't been too locked in.

I mean that's a very iconic role to portray, to suddenly be that character in everyone's minds forever.

Funny enough, Bomer had a chance to try get back into Clark Kent's formidable tights when he starred in a 2009 Japanese commercial for Toyota Prius.
