Matt Bomer ‘Too Gay’ to Play Christian Grey in ‘Fifty Shades’ Movie?

He's totally Christian Grey material

White Collar and Magic Mike hottie Matt Bomer has been looked at to star as the sexy business tycoon Christian Grey in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey. While most ladies—and certainly gentlemen—are excited about this, it seems that not everyone is quite happy with this choice.

According to Huffington Post, best-selling author Bret Easton Ellis—who also made it quite clear that he wasn’t discriminating—went on a Twitter rant saying that Bomer “isn’t right for Christian Grey because he is openly gay.” The tweets didn’t end there, however, as he continued his venting spree stating, “Fifty Shades of Grey demands an actor that is genuinely into women. Get it?!?” Quite frankly I don’t get it.

What people fail to realize is that no matter your sexual orientation, it’s the talent that lands actors, actresses, or any entertainer for that matter the gigs they’re chosen for.  The people behind the Fifty Shades project chose Bomer because he certainly has the chops (and quite frankly the looks, as I’ve read the book) to do Christian Grey justice on film. To add onto this, Neil Patrick Harris, who is also an openly gay entertainer, has played many heterosexual roles and played them quite well at that.

Nice to hear your opinion Mr. Ellis, but Bomer remains a candidate.
