Matt Dallas Shares The Touching Story Of How He Came Out To His Dad
Actor Matt Dallas and his music producer husband, Blue Hamilton, just released the follow up to last month's YouTube video that introduced their newly-adopted 2-year-old son, and this time they're sharing their experiences with coming out as gay.
Dallas explains that although he didn't come out publicly until about two years ago, he had actually been out to his family nearly 15 years before.
His brother was the first to bring up the subject, asking Dallas if he had a boyfriend.
Dallas said that he did, which prompted his brother to say that he was gay too. But the touching reality is that his brother is actually straight, and was simply saying otherwise so that Matt wouldn't feel alone in that moment.
"It was really like the sweetest thing ever," Dallas remembers. "It always make me tear up telling the story."
But soon after, it was time for the young actor to tell his father.
Dallas shares that he asked his dad if he could stop by his place later that night to talk about something.
After a silent pause, his dad responded, "Matt, if you’re going to tell me you’re gay, I already know and it’s cool. And I love you."
"Every time I tried to come out to somebody, they already knew!" said Dallas with a laugh.
