Matthew Wilkas Cast as Gay Cop in RuPaul’s Netflix Comedy Series

RuPaul created “AJ and the Queen” with Michael Patrick King.

RuPaul, you have the right to remain sickening!

Matthew Wilkas has been cast in a recurring role as a hot cop opposite the Emmy-winning RuPaul's Drag Race host in AJ and the Queen, Deadline reports.

Wilkas will play Officer Patrick Kennedy, described as "a macho, gay police officer who is charming, easygoing, and comfortable in his own skin." The character "works for the New York Police Department alongside Officer Rhonda Whyatt (Misty Monroe)."

The 40-year-old actor's credits include Gayby, You're Killing Me, EastSiders, HBO's Looking, and Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. He also has a recurring role in the upcoming Netflix series Bonding.

Wilkas' longtime boyfriend is Olympic freeskier Gus Kenworthy, who came out publicly as gay in 2015 after winning a silver medal at the 2014 Sochi Games. Their televised smooch at the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang is considered the first same-sex kiss aired during the Olympics.

As first reported last May, RuPaul created the upcoming Netflix streaming series with Michael Patrick King. RuPaul will serve as a writer and executive producer alongside the Emmy-winning Sex and the City showrunner, also known for his work on The Comeback and 2 Broke Girls.

The 10-episode hourlong comedy stars Ru as Ruby Red, "a bigger-than-life but down-on-her-luck drag queen who travels across America from club to club in a rundown 1990s R/V with her unlikely sidekick AJ, a recently orphaned, tough-talking, scrappy 11-year-old stowaway," according to an official synopsis.

"As these two misfits, one tall, one small, travel from city to city, Ruby’s message of love and acceptance winds up touching people and changing their lives for the better. Oh, and RuPaul performs a killer musical number in every drag club."

It was previously announced that Josh Segarra (On Your Feet!) will play Hector, Ruby's boyfriend, "who has a dark and dangerous side."

Netflix has rounded out the AJ and the Queen cast with Michael-Leon Wooley (The Princess and the Frog), Katerina Tannenbaum (Sweetbitter) and Tia Carrere (Wayne's World). THR reports: "Wooley is Louis, a blind drag queen. Tannenbaum is set as Brianna, described as a clueless hooker with a deep connection to AJ. Carrere is Lady Danger, a comic villain who is infamous in the local drag scene for injecting cheap silicone into her clients at the clubs."

No stranger to Netflix, RuPaul appeared on Girlboss and guest-stars on the new fifth season of Grace and Frankie. A series based on RuPaul’s early days as a ’80s club kid has found a home at Hulu, and he is reportedly developing a daytime talk show.

A premiere date for AJ and the Queen has not been announced.
