Connecticut McDonalds Drags Nearby Chick-fil-A: "We Welcome Everyone"

The tea is hot! Or should we say French fries?

One Connecticut McDonalds has thrown some shade at its new neighbor, a Chick-fil-A.

Managers at a McDonalds location in Glastonbury, C.T., seemed to put the notoriously anti-gay fast food chain on blast with their latest display, which faces the unopened Chick-fil-A and reads, "We Welcome Everyone."

The general manager of the McDonalds in question told NBC News Connecticut that the sign was just a welcoming gesture. "It just means that everyone is welcome, young, old, everyone," she said off-camera, asserting that it wasn't intended to be a political statement.

Meanwhile, Jordan Snook, the Chick-fil-A's franchise owner, told the news network that he isn't sure what the sign means. He just wants to create "an environment of hospitality" with the new restaurant, slated to open later this week.

"We are excited to open in Glastonbury next week, and look forward to being great neighbors who welcome everyone," Snook wrote in a statement. "Glastonbury will be representative of all Chick-fil-A restaurants in serving great food and providing remarkable service for all customers, as well as a diverse workplace of individuals who represent many viewpoints, opinions, backgrounds, and beliefs."

Regardless of the manager's intent, the Glastonbury McDonalds' new sign has become something of a spectacle. One woman even drove hours away from her home in Statford, C.T., to see the sassy statement in person.
