Meet Elle King And The "Banjo Baby-Making Music" She Brought To SXSW
Last week, amidst the roaring chaos of SXSW, we plucked singer/songwriter/guitarist/banjoist Elle King to take over our Instagram during her 5-day stint in Austin–which included a performance at Perez Hilton's “One Night in Austin."
"SXSW is a shit-show; it's insane. On every corner it's like 'that's my ex-boyfriend, don't look that way,' but at the same time, it's really awesome to get to see all of my friends performing in the same place, which is rare."
King describes her music to us as "banjo baby-making music," saying she decided to pursue a career in music after realizing she "wasn't good at anything else."
Her 2012 effort, The Elle King EP, included the hit single "Playing For Keeps,” which was featured as the theme song for VH1's Mob Wives Chicago ("I hear Big Ang has one one of my songs as her ringtone!") as well as in an ad campaign for Mad Men.
She went on to tour with Ed Sheeran, Train and Of Monsters and Men before carving out time to work on her debut album, LOVE STUFF, which debuted on the iTunes Top 10 last month, buoyed by the success of the album's irresistible lead single "Ex's & Oh's."
