Melissa Rivers Reads Kathy Griffin For Filth: "She Sh*t All Over My Mother's Legacy!"
You apparently weren't the only one who thought Kathy Griffin wasn't a perfect fit for the Fashion Police couch.
Melissa Rivers, the show's producer and daughter of the irreplaceable Joan Rivers, expressed her anger over the recent Fashion Police meltdown regarding Zendaya's wig at an event promoting her new book in NYC Wednesday.
"It wasn't a match on a lot of levels," said Rivers, referring to Griffin taking the show's lead role after her mother passed. "My biggest complaint was the feeling that she kind of shit all over my mother's legacy in her statement on leaving."
When she left the show, Griffin posted a lengthy note to Twitter that read in part, "I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards difference."
"I understand what you're doing in trying to save yourself, but don't crap all over my mother," said Rivers.
Asked by moderator Hoda Kotb how she thinks her mother feels "looking down at the shards [of Fashion Police]," Rivers said:
I think there might be a little bit of a twinkle in her eye, saying 'Y'all couldn't do it without me, could you?' and after that I think she would be a little bit frustrated.
We all said the same thing, if something like that had happened and my mother were alive, her reaction would have immediately been, 'Oh my god, are you serious? Oh please, all this over a wig?'"
She would have called Giuliana and yelled at Giuliana, she would have called Kelly and yelled at Kelly and said, 'Stop it.' She would have listened to them both cry and complain about each other and then she'd be like, 'Is everyone over it? OK let's go to work and make a funny show.'"
