Hot on the heels of the recent YouTube release of the final installment in their Harry Potter trilogy, some of our favorite members of Team StarKid are banding together to bring more theater to their fans with a new production coming this summer.

Julia Albain and Corey Lubowich, much of the behind-the-curtain force supporting last year's successful StarKid tours and current Second City Chicago sketch show, are joining forces to produce "Judas Redux," a project that will include extensive behind-the-scenes content and a new production of "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot," written by Stephen Adly Guirgis.  Albain, who directed a version of Judas Iscariot while a student at University of Michigan that featured Glee's Darren Criss along with the rest of the StarKids, with take the directorial helm on this project as well. Fan favorites Lauren Lopez, Joey Richter and Brian Rosenthal are confirmed to star, as well as act as producers with Lubowich and Albain. The production is aimed to pull back the curtain on how shows are created, and the cast and crew will document the entire process for the community and online audiences. Special guests will be joining the production as well as additional cast announced at a later date.

"This is a show I have been talking about doing for almost five years, and the timing just felt right,” said Albain. “Many of us were ready to return to the roots of our training and see how we have changed as artists. I wanted to give some of these incredible actors a chance to showcase themselves in a different light."

The group has set a lofty goal of $36,000, but StarKids have had excellent success recently raising funds, from Dylan Saunders almost-completed album campaign to Lopez's previously successful cookbook Kickstarter. Their rewards range from basic thank yous all the way to "Oprah" level where the fan can ask for "anything  [they] want within reason and moral, ethical, and legal bounds." Middle tier rewards emphasize their commitment to connectivity with the art process, such as chances to sit in on rehearsal or have private chats with the creators. We think they've got it in the bag, and when they do "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot" will be presented at Stage 773  in Chicago, for 18 performances, August 23 – September 8, 2013.

For a taste of StarKids and Judas, fans have uploaded a vintage video behind the scenes of the old Michigan production:
