Meme: Chris Colfer Mourns Privately, Jeff Bezos Buys “Washington Post,” Spike Lee Is Not Homophobic

Chris ColferChris Colfer is doing a lot of press for the release of The Land of Stories 2 today, and of course he’s being asked about Cory Monteith as he goes, and he admits mourning in the public eye is difficult. “It’s difficult, because it’s hard to mourn someone, but it’s another thing to mourn someone with the world. I think a line needs to be drawn, because it’s really unnerving to get messages from people, from 12-year-olds in Nebraska telling you how to mourn and telling you how to pay respects.”

You can watch the hilarious clip of Amy Acker in the new season of Husbands, and see her cause Cheeks to make a sound that can probably only be heard by dogs.

Kelly Rowland sat down with my friend Brett Berk to talk about her love of British cars, including the new video she just made for the F-Type Jaguar. But she’s already got her dream car, her 10 year old Range Rover. “It was actually the Range Rover. My mother was a nanny, and the people that she worked for, they had that truck. Now that I think about it, they had a Jaguar too. I Kelly Rowlandremember admiring their lifestyle and their cars, and it’s so cool that her job exposed me to that. I was like: ‘Ma, we need more of that in our lives.’ So, basically, the Range Rover was it. When I first got it, I cried like a baby. It was a big thing for me.”

What Happened When My Son Wore a Pink Headband To WalMart. Seriously, this mom has more self control than I do.  If a stranger touched my kid like that, either me or you would be dead. But we’re not going to just walk away.

With the protests and boycott of Ender’s Game, I almost forgot it was coming with an actual game you could play, and the first trailer is out. A boycott of the game is already planned.

Speaking of gays and games, GaymerX was this weekend, and there was a discussion of gay representation in games, including how the Sims began allowing same-sex relationships. “The lead engineer on the original Sims was openly gay. He had a reputation for just … implementing shit. Nobody really questioned it, which was cool. It boiled down to exactly one meeting, which was: How do we want to support this? There was never a question of do we support this, it was a question of how do we want to support this.”The Sims

Congresswoman Linda Sanchez introduced the Social Security Equality Act yesterday, aiming to extend Social Security benefits to partners in civil unions, which are still excluded based on the DOMA ruling.

Which could also be handy in Croatia, which announced plans for a bill that would extend civil unions to same sex couples.

Which is still a step behind Uruguay, where marriage equality came into effect yesterday.

But for those of us still ex-husband shopping, which states have the biggest penises? Oddly, this is based on the custom sized condoms that I wrote about a year ago, so there’s actually some real practical science to it, since people are spending money on condoms of a given size. My Sochiown West Virginia reports in at #46, which sadly, based on my experience since moving back, seems about true.

David Mixner is against boycotting the Sochi Games, and most of it boils down to the simple truth that nothing has brought us more equality than visibility, and you don’t gain visibility by staying home.

In a twist I didn’t see coming, Time Warner has offered CBS a deal to regain broadcast rights for the #1 network – they’ll simply offer it a la carte, like HBO, and let the market decide how much to pay for the network. I can honestly say I might not even bother. I don’t really watch CBS.

Also in a move I didn’t see coming (and evidently neither did the investigative reporters at the Washington Post), the Post has been sold to Amazon Jeff Bezosfounder Jeff Bezos for $250 million. Amazon will have no role in the newspaper, as Bezos bought it with his own money, which is really pocket change to someone worth $25 billion.

I had posted a tweet from P!nk on Tumblr telling her followers it didn’t bother her when they called her a lesbian, since most of her favorite people were lesbians, but I didn’t have context for why it happened. Evidently she grabbed a rainbow flag from a fan in the crowd at her concert in Sydney and danced around with it, spawning the Twitter hate, which rolled off her shoulders like water off a duck.

The Republican Party is warning CNN and NBC that if they go ahead with their Hillary Clinton biopics, they’ll withhold the presidential candidates of 2016 from any debates on the networks. That seems unlikely, since you can’t keep a presidential candidate away from national television during a race.

Spike LeeSpike Lee says that just because some of his characters in movies say homophobic things doesn’t mean that he’s homophobic. “First of all, I’m not homophobic. Because I have a character say the word “faggot” or “homo” that does not mean that I’m homophobic. Martin Scorsese is not racist. The characters are people he grew up with, characters in the mean streets — that’s those people talking, not him.  In that world, those are the things people say. When I went to Morehouse College that’s the way they spoke, thought and talked about homosexuals… To be an artist, if you’re a novelist — every character you write is going to have the same vision?  How do you have conflict if everybody is agreeing?  Plus, what I’ve done is hold the mirror up. I’ve done a lot of showing what is happening now. I try to expose stuff by showing it — that doesn’t mean I’m endorsing it.”

That lab grown hamburger that was to be eaten this week? It’s a little bland according to tasters, mostly because it’s basically 100% lean.

It’s not that I don’t agree with this editorial trying to make the point that the human rights issues to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar are potentially worse than Sochi, it’s just that it’s missing the point. Sochi is in six months, which makes the time to talk about it now. Then we can work on FIFA and the World Cup in Ed Sheerannine years.

Due to a change in “environmental conscience”, Costa Rica will be closing their zoos next year, releasing most of the animals back into the wild, with those not capable of surviving in the wild going to sanctuaries.

Ed Sheeran, who is touring with Taylor Swift, reacted to the Westboro Baptist Church picketing one of their concerts. “Keep your homophobic views to yourself, it’s 2013.”

One might question the wisdom of Sesame Street using Cookie Monster to teach self control, but I guess that’s how you teach children that anyone can exercise. Perhaps the less wise choice was appropriating Icona Pop music to do it.

RT, formerly Russia Today, is a state funded media source that I used to have a lot of respect for, but that kind of went out the window with this report on how the West simply doesn’t understand Russia, and how the gay propaganda law will only be used to protect children, not infringe on adults, and look at this giant gay club we can’t show you the inside of. Frankly, this is the kind of gay propaganda that should be outlawed.

This red band featurette from Kick Ass 2 is obviously NSFW, but it does effectively introduce the characters and where they are in their lives since the last movie ended. As a bonus, it contains Aaron Johnson’s abs.

If you watched the web series My Gay Roommate, well, you have more patience than I did. But Nick is home for summer vacation now, and his mom wants him to get a job, so he decides to be a go-go boy, which will involve some manscaping, which he decides to do with yoga poses, and without the doors being locked, which leads to a situation. I never understand why people shave down below like this rather than in the shower. It would have solved most of his problems before they happened.

Lindsay Lohan will be sitting down with Oprah Winfrey for an interview, and it sounds like the Big O won’t be pulling any punches with the tabloid queen. I admit I’m curious if Oprah will press for actual answers, or let Lindsay skate around them.

Opinionated. You'll love to hate me
