Nick Gruber is straight, Robert Pattinson found Little Ashes love scene mortifying, Macklemore & Lewis pick up BET Hip-Hop Awards nomination
Macklemore & Lewis picked up a nomination for “Same Love” at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in the Impact Track category. It really feels like the nomination is in line with the lyrics of the song.
Ben Stiller is developing Reality Bites as a series for NBC. It will be period set in the early 90s, but there’s no word on if they’ll keep the gay storyline, but I’d hope so. The original movie also took on HIV, so there’s hope for something really good to come out of this.
Nothing against Ben Affleck, but no. A thousand times no.
Simon Pegg spoke with WTF with Marc Maron and decried the idea of a bromance, but for all the right reasons. “You can be affectionate with each other, you can love each other and it doesn’t have to be some – you know, and even if it does turn into something, which it didn’t, then it’s okay… We always sort of flinch at this “bromance” buzzword that’s come up – there’s no equivalent for women, because it’s not weird if women are friends… because of this homosexual terror that straight guys have, it’s ridiculous. Now there has to be this word for it, and it’s crazy. It’s totally sad.”
The Arkansas senate is trying to ban certain body modifications including scarification and skin implants. I’m not a fan of either (or even my own youthful tattoos), but I fail to see how this syncs up with Republican ideas of small government and freedom.
Blake Skjellerup believes that New Zealand needs a prominent sportsman to declare his homosexuality before the country can really get over homophobia in sports. “If there is an All Black out there who is gay, then it is important for their own wellbeing that they are honest with themselves and live their life unshadowed by their sexuality. On the other hand, it would be helpful to sport in New Zealand if there was a charter to combat homophobia and for all major governing bodies to make statements they will support gay athletes 100 per cent so their positions in their respective sports are not placed in jeopardy.”
Steven Moffat trolled Doctor Who fans by stating that he believes that it’s official that The Doctor can only regenerate a dozen times, which would make Peter Capaldi the last Doctor. No one believes that Doctor Who will end with Capaldi, but it does bring up speculation of how they’ll get around the problem.
Robert Pattinson isn’t a fan of filming sex scenes for movies, and confesses his gay scene in Little Ashes was the worst to film. “The Dali production was the worst, it was mortifying. We were all hanging out by the pool, trying to loosen up. I was nervously clinging to the edge—and before I could turn around, the Spaniard was already naked. He happily swam towards me. And I didn’t have a clue how to react. I felt like Mr. Bean.”
According to John Luciano, Nick Gruber is straight. “Can I tell you the riddle about Nick? He’s straight. He had a very fucked up, abusive childhood— horrific, practically worse than a cattle dog—and most women are not going to take care of him, so he turns to the company of gay men for support, paternal love, mentoring, and all those things. At the end of the day, if he can choose between sleeping with Zac Efron and Betty White, he’s going to choose Betty White, because that’s the way he is. When he went back with Calvin, Calvin should have just let him sleep with women, and he would have been fine. He’s gay for pay, and that’s what it is.” As for the relationship with Calvin Klein, according to John, “Yeah, it was true love. Calvin was in love with his body and Nick was in love with the wallet. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I date younger guys, and as long as it’s legal, it’s OK, but I don’t fool myself.” And since Luciano did sleep with him, just what kind of lover is Gruber? “The worst lover I’ve ever had! I like Nick and am friends with him and still try to help him, and I’m the one who encouraged him to get back with Calvin, but our relationship was very open.”
The New Mexico Supreme Court has ruled that a photographer that refused services to a gay couple is guilty of discrimination. “We conclude that a commercial photography business that offers its services to the public, thereby increasing its visibility to potential clients, is subject to the antidiscrimination provisions of the [New Mexico Human Rights Act] and must serve same-sex couples on the same basis that it serves opposite-sex couples. Therefore, when Elane Photography refused to photograph a same-sex commitment ceremony, it violated the NMHRA in the same way as if it had refused to photograph a wedding between people of different races.”
Bill Donahue is upset that California is considering a bill that would lift the statute of limitations on cases of sexual abuse by pedophile clergy. “It was the Democrats who made the difference between last week and this week. Last week, they were indecisive; this week they decided to cast their vote in favor of a bill that discriminates against the Catholic Church. We need a lawmaker who will introduce a bill that discriminates against the public sector. The bill should suspend the statute of limitations in cases involving the sexual abuse of minors who were victimized in a public school or any other public entity. All private institutions, including Catholic schools, would be given a pass. This is the only way to send a message to the public about this phony war on child abuse. Anyone who is serious about this issue would never entertain a bill that had selective application.”
We showed you gay journalist James Kirchirk exploding on RT about the anti-gay laws in Russia. Now he reveals that when he was leaving for the airport, RT called and canceled the pre-arranged cab, when he was halfway there, instructing the cab to let him out on the side of the road. Thankfully, the cab refused.
I’m fine with people wanting to improve their appearance, be it working out or even plastic surgery. And I’m not surprised that gay men are leading the way on procedures. But do we have to call it Brotox?
I know it feels like I’m beating a dead horse, but this Bert & Ernie version of “Same Love” just feels so right I can’t really resist.
Christian Hendricks spoke with Michael James Alexander Szalapski, who says he uses Grindr to reach out to young gay Christians who feel their god has abandoned him. On the one hand, I’m happy that he’s finding a way to reach out to people who feel a spiritual hole in their lives. It’s something I’ve never experienced, but I’m sure it’s rough. On the other hand, GRINDR IS FOR BLOW JOBS! Stop wasting people’s time.
This Louisiana sinkhole is the result of a collapsing salt dome that came from poorly regulated drilling. It destroyed a town and keeps getting bigger and bigger, belching up petroleum fumes and here, swallowing a grove of cypress trees like they were Slim Jims.
Out singer-songwriter Stephen Leonard is “Wanting It All” with his cute bearded companion, running, swimming, kissing and generally being adorable and sad. Can’t we just be adorable and happy?
Sir Elton John has released the first video from his upcoming album called The Diving Board. “Home Again” is a bit of a sad journey about reclaiming your past while never quite remembering it properly, but it sounds like pure Elton John.
Because it’s Friday, and it’s been a rough week, here is a compilation of pandas on slides. They are adorable, but they certainly aren’t coordinated.
