Arrow gives us the Olicity kiss, Sydney Convicts win Bingham Cup, massive leak of private celebrity nude photos

Just as all the sexual abuse lawsuits against Bryan Singer are dropped comes word that the NYPD is investigating him for the sexual assault of a man in his 20s on March 23, 2013 after a complaint was filed in May. Singer's lawyers say that they have not been contacted by the NYPD about the investigation, which is being handled by the Special Victims Unit.

While there have been conflicting reports about the condition of Joan Rivers, with some saying she's in a medically induced coma while others say she's on life support, the latest statement from her daughter, Melissa Rivers is simply one of hope. “We are keeping our fingers crossed." In a feel good story, firefighters who responded to a man having a heart attack while mowing his lawn in Texas revived him and transported him to the hospital, then came back to his house and finished mowing his lawn for him. Because no Texan should have a half-mown lawn. I learned that on King of the Hill. Unfortunately the homeowner died two days later.

Leslie Jordan did not enjoy his time on Celebrity Big Brother, and says the show brings out the worst in everyone, including him. "I consider myself a kindly and well behaved human being. I turned into a screaming harridan!! There was a stripper who now lives in LA and Las Vegas but hails from France who, in my humble opionion [sic], is a mentally unstable. Lawrence in particular has photos splashed everywhere online. But they may not be real, because Victoria Just quickly took to Twitter to say the ones reportedly of her were fake., as has Ariana Grande. On the other hand, reps for Lawrence say “This is a flagrant violation of privacy. The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence." While this is awful, I admit I briefly wondered if Zac Efron had any photos stored in iCloud. It's always the female celebrities.

Activists are up in arms that the BBC censored the "lesbian kiss" from the premiere of Doctor Who in Asia. The BBC says they had no choice in order to comply with broadcast standards. First up, I don't count that as a lesbian kiss. Sorry. They are married lesbians, yes, but they were sharing oxygen, not making out. Secondly, there are no "broadcast standards" that are pan-Asia. Third, some of the activist comments are just too silly to be taken seriously by adults, like Peter Tatchell. "If these countries are bigoted and are not willing to show same-sex love, they have no right to demand that the BBC conforms to their standards of prejudice." So we invade and force them to change their laws?

In a much longer piece on the changing language of the far right in efforts to remove the bigot label when they fight against equality, this small paragraph struck me. "If you feel you must not bake a wedding cake for a lesbian couple because of the bible, then, yes, you do have something against gays: your religious denomination of choice. That excuse is like being tried for a lynching and claiming it wasn't your fault because you're a member of the KKK and that's what they instructed you to do."

Paul Ross, the older brother of Jonathan Ross has said that he's been cheating on his wife with a man for a year. He met him at a gay cruising ground and began an affair and a drug addiction on mephedrone. The man he was sleeping with eventually contacted Ross' wife. “I know 90 per cent of Paul is a good man. He’s a good dad. I feel the sex was part of the mephedrone package, I don’t see it as a gay relationship, I see it as part of the drugs. I’m not letting that vile little gargoyle destroy what we’ve got.” I'm a little unclear on if she's referring to the drugs or the other man as a gargoyle.

Oakland Pride has sparked a controversy after several leather groups say they were told they couldn't march. Oakland simply says that they're a family-friendly parade, and while the leather groups are free to march, there simply was a rule against chaps, sexual content and nudity. Oakland is trying to be a bookend opposite of the wild San Francisco Pride at the beginning of the summer. They're free to do as they like, but I know which one would look like Pride to me, and which one I'd rather attend.

Bryan Fischer seems to think that the St Louis Rams cutting Michael Sam from the team is the same thing as firing a worker because they're gay or refusing to bake a cake for a same-sex wedding, and that if one is legal, so is the other.

As of the time that I'm writing this, Michael Sam has been passed over twice by the other 31 teams in the league, and we're mostly waiting to see if he's signed to a practice squad.

Congratulations to the Sydney Convicts, who have won the Bingham Cup. Mark Bingham's mother, Alice Hoagland, was on hand for the tournament. “It’s such an honour for me to be considered the mother of this great big group. I lost my son on 9/11, but I gained a couple thousand sons.” The Sydney Convicts last won the Cup in 2012.

At Telluride, The Imitation Game hosted a panel after their incredibly successful screening. Sadly, none of the stars could make it due to other commitments. Since it was all filmmakers, the panel focused more on how the movie came to be than what the movie was actually about, so I still don't have details on how they deal with the gay angle. But you can't tell me that writer Graham Moore isn't positively adorable when he talks about trying to get this movie made.

In a terribly brief promo for Arrow, we get to see that Olicity kiss that the mainstream fanbase has been waiting to happen for two years, and Thea learns some serious self defense moves, but we don't get even a second of the salmon ladder. Doesn't this show know what's important?

In the weirder offerings we have the trailer for Bang Bang Baby, the science fiction musical starring Suburgatory's Jane Levy, Shameless' Justin Chatwin, and Peter Stormare. It has a very Stroma feel to it.

On a programming note, today is Labor Day in the States, and things tend to slow down here, so posting will be a bit lighter than usual. Take the time to go outside and grill something.
