Meme: Gays Ignored “Magic Mike XXL,” Ted Cruz Fears Churches Losing Tax Exemption, Hugh Jackman Not Allowed To Work With Angelina Jolie

Scott Walker’s family supports marriage equality, men react to the word “gay,” Kourtney Kardashian dumps Scott Disick

Hugh Jackman and DeborahHugh Jackman’s wife Deborah says that he’s allowed to work with anyone he wants – except Angelina Jolie. “I’ve told his agent he’s not allowed to work with Angelina [Jolie] “I’m sure she’s very nice.” Of course she was joking. “It just goes to show [that] if you get it right, if you pick the right partner, then you traverse all those travails and challenges.”

A Colorado ballot measure has been filed that would limit same sex marriages to civil unions. The problem is that its’ so poorly written, it would actually limit all marriages to civil unions, gay or straight. “A marriage is recognized as a form of religious expression of the people of Colorado that shall not be abridged through the state prescribing or recognizing any law that implicitly or explicitly defines a marriage in opposition or Scott Walkeragreement with any particular religious belief.”

Both of Governor Scott Walker’s college sons, as well as his wife, support marriage equality, leaving the governor alone in supporting a constitutional amendment to ban marriage equality. And his sons weren’t thrilled with their father, whose presidential campaign they work for, calling the Supreme Court Decision a grave mistake. “That was a hard one. “Our sons were disappointed. . . . I was torn. I have children who are very passionate [in favor of same-sex marriage], and Scott was on his side very passionate. It’s hard for me because I have a cousin who I love dearly — she is like a sister to me — who is married to a woman, her partner of 18 years.” Maybe they’ll vote for Hillary.

The audience for Magic Mike XXL was 96% female over the weekend. Magic Mike XXLThe first movie pulled 27% male over the opening weekend. Was part of that gay men not bothering to turn out, despite a marketing push at Pride festivals. “However, despite a marketing campaign that, at least to a degree targeted gay males, it didn’t connect with them or straight guys. Timing may have been a problem. The Magic Mike sequel opened on Wednesday, ahead of the July 4th holiday, which is a major social event in cosmopolitan areas with many East Coast gay males leaving town for the weekend for the Hamptons, P-Town, Fire Island and alternately on the West Coast many head for Laguna Beach. XXL underperformed on both coasts.” Or, we know we were baited the first time, and knew not to bother the second time. Personally, I wasn’t at Fire Island for the holiday, and that is a pathetic excuse.

Jim Cato and Joe StapletonDuring the debate on removing the Confederate battle flag from the state capitol in South Carolina (which passed the Senate twice out of the required three votes so far), state Senator Lee Bright went on a rant about the rainbow flag and the White House being lit in “abomination colors.” He went on to say “We can talk about a flag all we want, but the Devil is taking control of this land.” Really? I thought the devil went down to Georgia.

After the lawyers for Jim Cato and Joe Stapleton showed up at the courthouse in Hood County Texas, after they filed a federal lawsuit because the clerk had stalled them for weeks on getting a marriage license in spite of the Supreme Court, after she called the police to try and have them removed from her office with a news crew in tow, after she claimed not to have the right forms for another three weeks even when presented with the forms, Katie Lang finally issued their handwritten marriage license. Cato and Stapleton have not yet decided whether to dismiss their federal lawsuit, but will seek attorney fees.PewDiePie

YouTube user Felix Kjellberg, known as PewDiePie, who makes videos of himself playing video games and uploading reaction footage, made $7 million from it last year. That’s up from the previous year, when he made $4 million. I honestly don’t understand why anyone would regularly watch any of these YouTube stars, but the economics of it blows my mind.

Kourtney Kardashian is dumping hard partying husband Scott Disick, with whom she has three children. Normally, I wouldn’t care at all, but the Kourtney Kardashian Scott Disicktwo of them have some very real conversations about their ridiculous lives that amuse me when they scroll past my Tumblr dash. I’ll miss those. And when Scott scrolls by freeballing and showing a good reason why she married him in the first place.

The Benham brothers’ faith is so weak that it might not withstand the marriage equality ruling. “As our faith comes under fire – with today’s attack on religious liberty – we must remember that God uses fire to purify our faith. Fire draws a line in the sand: Are we in or out? With Him or against Him? There is no in between. We’ve heard some say, ’I’m just riding the fence, sitting quietly, waiting to see what happens.’ To them we respond, ’The devil owns the fence. Choose which side you’re on, and jump to it. Besides, you can’t stand strong on top of a fence.’ The Supreme Court’s ruling on gay ’marriage’ made it painfully obvious that religious liberties, especially for Christians, are now in the cross-hairs of the militant, secular agenda that is fundamentally changing our country. This means we need to get off the fence and stand up. We’ve got to decide beforehand, i.e., today, what we’re going to do when our faith is actually under fire.” In other words, they need to figure out how to continue to profit in this brave new world.

Here we see Glenn Beck and Senator Ted Cruz cower in fear that churches might lose their tax exempt status as a result of marriage equality. I have to wonder, would that really be such a bad thing? The idea behind churches being tax exempt is that the money they collect goes towards good deeds, helping the poor, etc. But what we see from the Catholic Church, the Mormon Church, and some of these evangelical megachurches is a massive accumulation of wealth – property, private jets, exotic cars. If the money isn’t going to good deeds, and in fact to perform their good deeds they’re accepting taxpayer money (and quit when that money comes with expectations that it will serve all), why aren’t we making them pay taxes before they buy a $65 million jet?

Macy’s fireworks are world famous, but most of us that aren’t in those big skyscrapers see them from the ground. This year, footage was taken from helicopters, and it shows a whole new view of the celebration of a nation.

One Word: Gay asks men from 10 to 50 what comes to mind when they hear the word “gay.” Some have a negative reaction. Most come up with equality or something positive. A few avoid the subject completely by going with a variation on “happy.” But one thing is obvious – you can’t bet on a positive reaction from age or appearance.

We’ve been talking a lot about the ripped athletes in the ESPN Body Issue. And we tend to associate athletes with a muscular, trim frame. But athletes don’t have to be svelte to be at the top of their game as Jack Mewhort, Todd Herremans, and Anthony Castonzo of the Indianapolis Colts show us in their shoot. These are big guys, muscular, but they’re not necessarily packing 6% body fat. That’s not their job. But they’re still fit and sexy.
