Sarah Silverman nails the meaning of “diva,” Misha Collins talks threesomes, Scott Lively says Russian anti-gay violence is actually masc vs. fem gays
Winona Ryder says that she’s sworn to secrecy on the sequel to Beetlejuice, “But it sounds like it might be happening.”
While this has been rumored for a while, this should be treated as a huge spoiler for The Day of the Doctor.
Because everything is bigger in Texas, including bigotry, not only is the Texas National Guard refusing to process ID cards for same-sex spouses of military members, they’re also refusing to process “with dependent” housing allowances for couples, forcing them to travel to federal facilities. This is just spiteful – once the IDs are issued and the couple is registered as married by the United States military, not processing their federal benefits that are already due to them is cruel. I’m not sure which court can slap down Governor Perry, but it’s beyond time the federal government sued over the issue.
Madonna was the highest paid musician of 2013 with $125 million, while Lady Gaga ranked second with $80 million. It would be interesting to see how much of that actually goes clear to the artists though, because I’m guessing most smaller acts get 5%-10% at most. How much can superstars command?
According to hate exporter Scott Lively, it’s not anti-gay skinheads committing the anti-gay violence in Russia, but other homosexuals. “The guys that are beating up gays in Russia—and it’s not any more prevalent than it ever has been really and it isn’t all that prevalent at all—but the ones that are doing it are butch homosexuals who are beating up effeminate homosexuals, the same thing that happened in Germany; this is gay-on-gay crime, at least that is what it appears to be.”
As the only state still considering an anti-gay amendment, Indiana has garnered major attention. But now having met to establish legislative priorities for the year, Republicans there say the amendment, years in the making, isn’t a priority.
NOM finally made their 2012 tax returns available for inspection, and it’s not pretty for the leading voice against equality. They came out $2.7 million in the red for the year. Only 64 donors contributed more than $5,000 to the group, and most of their money came from three large donors.
And as the Human Rights Campaign points out, they also took a loan from the Marriage Education Fund, a sister organization that is considered a tax free entity – as long as they don’t engage in politics, which donating to NOM seems to be.
Bigots can now download the 2nd Vote App, which will tell them which companies are anti-gay and anti-choice, so they know where to spend their money. Personally, I suggest countering that with Buycott and subscribing to the LGBT list, which will allow you to scan barcodes on products and find out if they’re a pro-equality company. I use it all the time.
Over the pond, Daily Telegraph columnist Brendan O’Neill says that young people have “reclaimed” gay as their own, and it now means “rubbish, pathetic or lame” and we need to get over that, just like people got over the GLBT community claiming “gay” as our own in the past.
Justin Timberlake is going where many musical performers won’t go these days, adding two dates in Russia this summer. I hope none of his dancers or support personnel accidentally “promote homosexuality.”
Awkward has been given the back ten order for their fourth season, which isn’t even in production yet. Hopefully that will allow time to integrate Clark into the series more completely. The show really needs his sass.
Alec Baldwin, if there’s one sign you should respect that you’ve done wrong by the gay community, it should be that Ann Coulter is now defending you. “They shouldn’t have suspended him. In defense of Alec Baldwin, the photographer, he’s not actually gay. This was just a curse word. It was like using the f-word and, frankly, a lot of these paparazzi photographers deserve it. It’s not something Alec Baldwin said in a calm moment on television. He has been harassed horribly by photographers and now this stalker, and he’s trying to protect his family and he curses. That is what happened.”
Missouri Rep. Nick Marshall has said that he will seek to impeach the state’s governor over the executive order for the tax department to recognize marriages performed outside the state for purposes of jointly filing returns.
Yeah, I’m going to side with Ireland Baldwin on this. Bringing that up was tasteless.
The legendary Roseland Ballroom is set to close next year, and many wondered what the final show would be. We now know that native New Yorker Lady Gaga will have the stage for the final time.
The cast of Monty Python is going to reunite – but sadly just for a stage show, not a movie.
I don’t know why he thinks this is a valid reason to break up. All of these kinds of relationships are like this. He had unrealistic expectations, so really, it’s all his fault.
It’s Hump Day, and that’s always rough, so here are 38 seconds of a baby otter drinking from a bottle. Don’t you feel better now? Feel free to come back and watch again when work gets you down.
I need to truly emphasize how NSFW this video is. It also contains a lot of a words that many people, but especially women, find offensive. So you have been warned. But I have to admit, while I may not agree with Sarah Silverman’s choice of words, I can say that I agree with her sentiment completely.
Misha Collins discusses the space station, feuds with NASA, and the threeways he has regularly.
