Meme: Robbie Amell Talks Firestorm, Benedict Cumberbatch Honors Alan Turing, Frozen Staffs Up for Broadway

Josh Peck is John Stamos’ son, Texas judge rules against marriage ban, Channing Tatum to honor Roland Emmerich for GLAAD

Channing TatumChanning Tatum, who I don’t recall ever being particularly vocal on LGBT issues, will be presenting Roland Emmerich with the 2015 Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the GLAAD Media Awards. The award goes to an openly gay media professional who “made a significant difference in promoting equality.” While Emmerich is mostly known for wild pool parties and blowing things up with movies like Independence Day and Day After Tomorrow, he’ll be releasing Stonewall later this year. Roland would probably appreciate it if Channing presented the award Magic Mike style, though Channing may be a bit too old for him.

Today Chuck Chapman reported for jury duty in Duval County in Florida, one of the counties that quit doing weddings for all after marriage equality came to the state. He then announced that he intended to refuse jury duty based on his sincerely held beliefs. “Ronnie Fussell is an elected official in this town. It’s government for the people, by the people. I’m a citizen, a vote. I pay my taxes. Just because it’s across the board, his decision not to do it any longer, has me willing to make this statement. I’m a taxpayer in this community. I’m a citizen in this community. My rights should be across the board just like anybody else has and anybody else wants and anybody else needs. It’s my rights as a citizen in Duval County and the state of Florida.”

Josh PeckThis man went on a date with himself for Valentine’s Day. And he is my new hero.

Josh Peck is returning to TV in the upcoming John Stamos comedy pilot. Stamos will play a happy, charismatic bachelor who discovers that he’s not only a father, but also a grandfather. Peck will play his well adjusted son, and a good father to a 2.5 year old girl. I can see Peck as Stamos’ son.

Apple had hired a lobbyist in Alabama, former State Rep. Jay Love. After it came to light that he had a horrible anti-gay record, they severed ties with him. Why would Apple be hiring a lobbyist in Alabama, Tim Cook’s home state? Possibly the rumors about the self driving electric car they want to build. Alabama is a major manufacturer of automobiles.

A county judge in Texas has ruled the state’s marriage equality ban unconstitutional in a rather sad case. The case was an estate fight in which one partner was attempting to have her eight year relationship ruled a common law marriage. The county clerk there is consulting with lawyers to see is she can begin issuing marriage licenses.

HBO has already renewed Last Week Tonight with John Oliver for a third and fourth season. I wonder if it was a proactive move to lock in Oliver as Comedy Central seeks a new host for The Daily Show?Phil Robertson

Citizens United  has announced that Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson will receive the Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award at Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) for his anti-gay, racist, anti-women comments.

A new NBC poll shows that even for Republicans, opposition to marriage equality is becoming a deal breaker. 52% of caucus voters in New Hampshire and South Carolina say that opposing marriage equality is either “totally” or “mostly” unacceptable, and it’s 47% in Iowa. To show that they’re surveying the right people, 63% say that belief in man made climate change is a deal breaker, and 56% say raising taxes on the wealthy is a nonstaFrozenrter.

Bill Browder, a major hedge fund manager says that he believes that Vladimir Putin has funneled $200 billion into personal accounts, making him the world’s richest man by far. “After 14 years in power of Russia, and the amount of money that the country has made, and the amount of money that hasn’t been spent on schools and roads and hospitals and so on — all that money is in property, Swiss bank accounts, shares, [and] hedge funds managed for Putin and his cronies.”

Frozen is heading to Broadway via some of the people who made the movie such a hit. Screenwriter and co-director Jennifer Lee will write the book, and composers Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will write additional music. While no production schedule has been announced, it’s expected to open in 2017.

Robbie Amell sat down with TheWrap to discuss The Flash and Firestorm and what might be in the character’s future, including the possibility of there being a Firestorm spinoff, which could probably work – think about it, the acting chops of Victor Garber and the body of Robbie Amell could be a very compelling combination.

I know that I’ve given The Imitation Game a lot of crap, but I will hand it to Benedict Cumberbatch for embracing the story of Alan Turing’s real life, and using it for good to raise awareness of the need to pardon tens of thousands of men convicted of homosexuality. He’s rallied all of Hollywood behind the cause, and seems to feel it deeply, as well as feel the need to share the actual life of Turing with the world at any chance during an interview.
