As we wait for New York Fashion Week to start soon, the menswear collections from Europe have shown to great effect. Rather than prattle on about the artistic nuances of what will make for a sharply-dressed man this coming Fall/Winter season, I thought it would be nice to let you watch the videos and select for yourself. Here are my favorite picks for the best of the Milan and Paris Fall/Winter 2012 collections:

Gucci Menswear 2012 - Frida Giannini signed off on a collection with a romantic rocker sensibility. Romantic with the edge you expect from the line, rich hues and fabrics abounded combined with great structured bags and stolen-from-the-vault accessories (scarves, sunglasses and the like.) If you were able to raid the best pieces from David Bowie and Mick Jagger's vaults of classic wardrobe favorites, this is probably what your haul would look like.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2012 - The well-dressed gentleman has made his return and D&G's operatic presentation had him taking a turn for the theatric, with suits, jackets, tuxedos and capes cut to the body in sumptuous fabrics. The addition of baroque embroidery on many wardrobe items and accessories added up for a rich, luxurious collection.

Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2012 - The impeccably-dressed English gentleman is back at Vuitton this season, with a focus on luxe blanket coats and particularly sharp offerings in camel. Tweed suits seal the look and feather-pin accessories add just the right touch of dandy so it's fashion forward.

Prada Fall/Winter 2012 - A return to the old world gentleman, Prada's sharply-tailored suits and separates spoke to the beautiful style of pre-World War I European style. A very retro modern collection that includes some incredible sunglasses, very interesting usage of stripes, sharply-executed double-breasted jackets, fantastic collars and beautiful belted coats. Oh, and legendary actor Gary Oldman makes an appearance on the runway.

Versace Fall/Winter 2012 - Ok, so let's end this post with a party! The show stays within the Versace man's comfort zone of wares (bomber jackets, beautiful suits, denim, bodysuits and form-fitting options) but with a rich color palette and embellishments that are sure to send a thrill. Chain mail denim, dyed fur collars, berets embellished with sequins and trinkets and a color palette of midnight blue, carmine red, acid yellow, sand and black. Life a party and Donatella's asking you to RSVP.
