Meryl Streep Will Play Maria Callas In "Master Class" Movie. Because Of Course.
Meryl Streep will star as tragic opera diva Maria Callas in the upcoming HBO adaptation of Terrence McNally’s Master Class. The New York Post reports that Mike Nichols will helm the telefilm, which starts filming in January 2015.
Most recently, Tyne Daly starred as Calals in a 2011 Broadway revival of Master Class.
Streep's been the go-to actress for adaptations of everything from Angels in America to the upcoming film version of Into the Woods, and has won acclaim for playing real-life personalities like Karen Silkwood, Margaret Thatcher, Julia Child and a thinly veiled Carrie Fisher in Postcards From the Edge.
Is there anything they won't sign Streep for? We hear there's a Point Break remake in the works.
