Michael Sam To Sign With Dallas Cowboys

We'll never have the definitive answer on why Michael Sam was cut by the St. Louis Rams, but the first out player in the NFL will have another chance to shine: Outsports is reporting that the Dallas Cowboys have are bringing Sam in for a physical Wednesday and plan on signing him for the team's practice squad.

Should that happen, he'll be the first out football player signed to a regular-season team.

A seventh-round draft pick for the Rams, Sam recorded 2.5 sacks in the preseason and led the Rams with six tackles during Thursday night's preseason game against Miami Dolphins. Some have claimed Sam's skills, while not perfect, should have qualified him for the team. For his part, Rams coach Jeff Fisher says he "remains a fan"  of Sam.

According to sports insiders, Sam could be a better fit with the Cowboys, who are in need of good defense players . Last season, the team had the worst overall defense record in the NFL, earning only 34 sacks and allowing more than 415 yards per game.

ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted the news, saying Dallas' defense "needs all the help it can get." He later added, "if [Cowboys owner] Jerry Jones can't sell Johnny Football jerseys, [he] might as well sell Michael Sam jerseys."

Earlier, Sam was offered a position in a slightly different league, as World Wrestling Entertainment tweeted an offer for him to appear on WWE Raw next week.

The organization clarified the offer on its website, stating that Sam would be given an "open forum" to discuss his situation
