Joey Stefano was one of the biggest names in the porn industry in the '80s and '90s, even crossing over to the mainstream when Madonna put him in her "Deeper and Deeper" video and infamous Sex book.

Now his story is being turned into a film starring RuPaul's Drag Race best squirrel friend, Michelle Visage, and All Stars 2 winner, Alaska.

According to Dazed Digital Visage "will play Anita, an amalgam of OTT television hosts that will provide a through-line for the film." Alaska has been cast as Gender, "a make-up artist who played in the band Johnny Depp Clones with Chi Chi LaRue and Chris Green."

LaRue went onto become a porn director and mogul who discovered Stefano (real name Nick Iacona) while Stefano was on a trip to L.A.

Director Chad Darnell became interested in Stefano's story after reading the 1996 biography Wonder Bread & Ecstasy: The Life and Death of Joey Stefano.

“It’s that story of ‘little boy comes to Hollywood and gets taken by the scene,’” Darnell, told G Philly in 2013. “But the real villain in the script is addiction, which Joey had. They all did.”

Stefano was featured in 58 films and became a porn celebrity, starring in such classics as Hole in One and Sex in Wet Places. He was also linked to high profile names like David Geffen and eventually went more mainstream when Madonna came calling.

Stefano was diagnosed with HIV in 1990 and died of a drug overdose in 1994 at the age of 26.

“He always said he was going to die before he was 30, even before his HIV diagnosis,” said Adult Video News gay-content editor Mickey Skee, who was a close friend of Stefano. “It’s impossible to imagine him being old. It’s like imagining Marilyn Monroe as a senior citizen.”

The working title for the film is X-Rated and the release date is scheduled for next year.
