Mike Huckabee: Evangelicals Will 'Take A Walk' If GOP Backs Gay Marriage

Mike Huckabee, talking in his "hey, I'm a reasonable guy" voice, continues to protest against gay people getting to marry. When asked in a recent interview if the GOP would ever be in favor of marriage equality, he responded, “They might. And if they do, they’re going to lose a large part of their base because evangelicals will take a walk."

But, don't worry, it's not because they're anti-gay. "it’s not because there’s an anti-homosexual mood, and nobody’s homophobic that I know of," says Huckabee, "but many of us, and I consider myself included, base our standards not on the latest Washington Post poll, but on an objective standard, not a subjective standard." Hmm...

If Huckabee's parlance was confusing, he continues to elaborate, using some colorful metaphors. He tells us that "politicians have an obligation to be thermostats, not just thermometers," and that the groundswell of support for gay marriage is "almost like saying, well, we have a basketball team and nobody on the team can hit the goal that’s 10 feet off the floor."

We're pretty sure we can all stop listening to Mike Huckabee now.
