Miley Cyrus And Madonna Team Up, Go Country For MTV Unplugged

Miley Cyrus and Madonna made musical history Wednesday night as two generations of pop royalty came together for the “Wrecking Ball” singer’s MTV Unplugged special.

Fresh off helping dozens of couples get married on the Grammys, the Material Matriarch joined the ex-Hannah Montana on the mashup “Don’t Tell Me/We Can’t Stop.” It’s an interesting combination: One song highlights the urgency of youth, the other is about refusing to step off of life’s grand stage.

Subtle, no? (Cyrus insists “Don’t Tell Me” is her favorite karaoke song.)

If you couldn’t tell by the C&W influence on the Grammys, country fans are a sizable (and desirable) demographic. And Cyrus was sure to let them know that, though she may love hip-hop, she hasn’t forgotten her Tennessee roots—with numbers like the honky-tonk “4 x 4″ and the Dolly Parton classic “Jolene,” not to mention a set right out of Hee-Haw. Might Miley be the one to bring pop, country and rap together? If anyone can, it’s her.
