Miley Cyrus will undoubtedly do something even more buzzworthy and iconic than her 2013 performance with with Robin Thicke (and her subsequent and controversial EMA performance, for that matter) when the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards kick off live this Sunday, August 30 at 9pm.
The 22-year-old wild child won’t be held back by any rules while hosting the ceremony, according to VMA executive producer Garrett English, who told Entertainment Weekly that “nothing is off-limits for Cyrus or the VMA stage” this year.
“We’re giving her pretty free rein,” he revealed this morning. “Obviously there are standards and various other things that were always a part of it, but no, [no rules].”
Why, exactly, will Miley have total control over the VMA stage, you ask? Because surprises are the best part of the show! Didn’t you learn that in 2003, when Madonna, Britney, and Christina’s impromptu VMA kiss rocked the world?
“One of the great things about the show is we try to create an environment where that spontaneity can happen and that creative expression rules the day,” said English. “However that manifests is what excites us. The ethos of the show is one that even though you may know who’s performing on the show or have context around what track is being performed or [you’ve] seen them in concert and the rest of it, the VMAs is always a place where the performances break barriers and do things that are different.”
That being said, performers slated to take the stage this year include Justin Bieber, Nick Jonas, Tori Kelly, Demi Lovato, Pharrell, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, and Twenty One Pilots with A$AP Rocky.
As for Miley’s infamous bresteses? Yeah, you can probably count on those making an appearance as well. “When you’ve got your tits out, you can’t really be an asshole,” she told Jimmy Kimmel last night.
Oh god this is going to be epic.
