"Millionaire Matchmaker" Star Calls On Guam To Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

David Cruz, Patti Stanger's right-hand gay on The Millionaire Matchmaker, hails from Guam and is urging his homeland to follow the law and legalize same-sex marriage.

Guam Governor Eddie Calvo has refused to approve marriage equality legislation, even though he's been directed to do so by the Attorney General of Guam, reports Guampdm.com. Additionally, the Archbishop of Guam has vociferously opposed same-sex marriage, calling homosexuality as an “intrinsically moral evil” and a mental disorder that needs to be treated.

"I was compelled to voice my opinion about this matter as I am not only a son of Guam having grown up on the island, but also as a gay man," Cruz wrote in a letter to Gov. Calvo. "I spend every moment of my life helping people find love and giving advice about relationships, so I cannot stand by and watch my own community of LGBT people be discriminated against.”

Cruz first appeared on Matchmaker as a dater in Season 3, and was inspired to start his own site Finding Cupid, which became a podcast and radio show. He's appeared on the Bravo reality series for two seasons now, helping gay and straight clients alike find the perfect mate.

Below, Cruz recorded a video in support of bringing equality to the island nation, which has been an unincorporated U.S. territory since 1898.
