The First Trailer for “The Miseducation of Cameron Post” Is Finally Here

The forthcoming drama stars Chloë Grace Moretz as Cameron, a queer teen who's shipped off to gay conversion therapy camp.

The first trailer for Sundance hit The Miseducation of Cameron Post is officially here, and it's equal parts chilling and breathtaking.

Starring Chloë Grace Moretz as the film's namesake, the drama follows Cameron Post after a sexual encounter with her high school prom queen lands her in a Montana gay conversion therapy camp.

Instead of isolating her, though, the camp helps Cameron find community: She commiserates with Jane, another queer character played by American Honey star Sasha Lane, and Adam, played by Forrest Goodluck. Camp administrators Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.) preside over the group, demanding that the teens confront the "sins" that brought them there.

The film—based on the 2012 novel by Emily M. Danforth—is the second feature-length flick from Iranian-American director Desiree Akhavan. It premiered at this year's Sundance to rave reviews, and was awarded the festival's Grand Jury Prize. Moretz, who has two older brothers who are gay, even spoke to real survivors of conversion therapy to prepare for her role.

It's one of two major film releases this year centering on the perils of conversion therapy, the other being a book-to-movie adaptation of Garrard Conley's harrowing memoir Boy Erased.

The Miseducation of Cameron Post will be released in select theaters on August 3. In the meantime, watch the full trailer below.
