Miss Fame Explains How Kevyn Aucoin Influenced Her Makeup Journey

"I think Kevyn Aucoin resurrected glamour."

Superstar makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin wasn't just an influence to the fashion industry and supermodels, but to young fans of fashion—and future drag queens—as well.

Miss Fame sat down with Logo to discuss how Aucoin helped her learn how to apply makeup and become the first queen she is today.

"By the mid-'90s I was obsessed with beauty," the Drag Race Season 7 queen explained. "Going to hair salons to find the [fashion] magazines, that was my introduction to the beauty of the '90s, where Kevyn resided."

"I think Kevyn Aucoin resurrected glamour. I think the '90s was glamour, it was one of the highest glamorized states of fashion. Everything was about opulence, the top and excess," she said.

Miss Fame used Aucoin's Making Faces to learn how to apply makeup, using techniques she still uses today.

"I learned how to design my face by looking at pictures of Kevyn, and the way he was painting the face. He had so many breakthroughs that were bigger than most makeup artists at the time."
