There’s something about Mitt Romney in front of a video camera that makes him show his true colors.
A 2005 video of Romney addressing conservative voters in South Carolina has popped up. He talks about an argument he apparently had with the Registry of Vital Statistics and Records over birth certificate forms.
The Registry of Vital Statistics wanted to change forms to say “father or second parent” and “mother or second parent.” Romney said the change in the forms would have the boxes say “Parent A” and “Parent B”.
Slightly confusing, but basically Romney wants everyone to know a child needs a mother and a father.
“Today, same-sex couples are marrying, under the law, in Massachusetts. Some gays are actually having children born to them. We’ve been asked to remove the phrase ‘mother’ and ‘father’ and replace it with ‘parent A’ and ‘parent B.’ It’s not right on paper. It’s not right in fact. Every child has the right to have a mother and father.”
Those gays! Having children born to them. What a disgrace.
In a second video, also uncovered by Boston Globe‘s Murray Waas, Romney said, “Are we ready to usher in a society indifferent about having mothers and fathers? Will our children be indifferent about a having a mother and father?”
Are we ready to have a society accepting of differences? Are we ready to have children indifferent to bigotry?
Not under Romney.
