Monday Becomes Batman Vs "Supergirl" And Saturday Is "Ash Vs. Evil Dead" : TV

Will "Supergirl" succeed on the network that cancelled the original "Flash" series?

Have a Happy Halloween week everyone!

Monday's Highlights

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (CW) 8:00 PM ET

The CW managed to find a companion series just as must-see as Jane the Virgin with its new musical comedy. Don't let that title put you off, the show is squarely in Rebecca's corner (even if she definitely has some trauma to overcome) and the songs have been outright hilarious. This week, the show hits a minor milestone as leading man Vincent Rodriguez III gets to perform his first song.

Switched at Birth (ABC Family) 8:00 PM ET

The fourth season finale has Bay seeing her first art show while Daphne considers signing up for an internship abroad. Now I'm really relieved that it's been renewed for a fifth season because that plot sounds like a season finale designed to work as a series finale.

Supergirl (CBS) 8:30 PM ET

Greg Berlanti has been on a roll with a pair DC Universe superhero shows that have been wonderfully addictive and big hits for the CW. Now, he's branching out to CBS with a show about the Maid of Might, Superman's cousin Supergirl. She's has had a pretty rough time in the comics, let's hope this TV show makes amends for decades of poor treatment. Here's further reason to tune in, tonight's debut episode has Robert Gant as Supergirl's dad, Zor-El.

Tuesday's Highlights

The Flash (CW) 8:00 PM ET

It looks like there are some big developments for Professor Stein this week as Team Flash seeks a new Firestorm co-host. This is the rare time episodes setting up a spin-off are exciting instead of feeling like we have to stay away as they move the pieces into place.

Manhattan (WGN) 9:00 PM ET

We've got a flashback and the debut of two new characters this week. Not only will we find out about Frank and Liza's life before Pearl Harbor was attacked, Mamie Gummer and Neve Campbell make their first appearances. Campbell will be playing Kitty Oppenheimer, wife of Robert Oppenheimer (if they're sticking with history). That's an addition that could make things really interesting for Manhattan.

Wicked City (ABC) 10:00 PM ET

Is that another period drama set in the 1980s? Why yes it is! (When will this trend meet TV's love of reboots, revivals and adaptations? A Less than Zero TV series could be a hoot.) A serial killer couple couple (Ed Westwick and Erika Christensen) are stalking Los Angeles and two LAPD detectives (Jeremy Sisto and Gabriel Luna) are on the case.

Saturday's Highlights

Ash Vs Evil Dead (Starz) 9:00 PM ET

At long last, Bruce Campbell returns to playing Ash, the man who survived many encounters with the Evil Dead, and he's on a TV series. It's been 30 years since Ash last battled any zombies but now they're threatening the entire world. At least he still has his chainsaw. Not only are Evil Dead creators Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert working on this version, this version will also add the amazing Lucy Lawless to the cast.

Les Revenants (The Returned) (Sundance) 10:00 PM ET

The acclaimed French horror drama has its own unique take on the zombie drama. This time, they weren't looking to munch on the brains of the living, but looking to wrap up the unresolved mysteries of their lives.

Also

Doctor Who (BBC America) 9:00 PM ET; Saturday Night Live (NBC) 11:30 PM ET

Sunday's Highlights

The Librarians (TNT) 8:00 PM ET

TNT filled the Leverage-sized hole in it's schedule when it turned its breezy adventure movies into a series. Now that they've got The Library back, everything seems great — until signs start pointing to The Library not quite being whole.

Cocktails & Classics (Logo) 8:00 PM ET

How about a screening of Little Shop of Horrors as your way of recovering from your Halloween fun?

The Walking Dead (AMC) 9:00 PM ET

Last week, The Walking Dead left viewers upset. Really upset. (Spoilers at that link.) However, a few hours later, the internet got to the denial stage. Fans are starting to speculate that a fake-out is coming and I suspect that kind of talk is going to build as the week goes on, so lets hope this week's 90-minute episode either delivers that fake-out or conclusively rejects it.
