Jaimie Deblieck, Mr. Gay Belgium 2017, was hospitalized over the weekend after being assaulted in an anti-gay attack in his hometown of Roeselare, Belgium.
In a Facebook post, the 18-year-old said he was attacked around 3am during a walk home from a night out. His assailants pushed him into the ground, stomped on him, and a called him a “fucking homo.”
Mr. Gay Belgium CEO Bram Bierkens says Deblieck has a “strong personality” and has fielded other threats of violence after his pageant win.

“Your support is what is going to pull me through these hard days,” he told fans via Zizo Belgium. “For that, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
A police investigation is pending.
John Raspado of the Philippines was crowned Mr. Gay World 2017 in a ceremony in Spain last May.
