Music Monday: 5 Songs You Need to Hear Today

In this week’s competition for the iron throne…

NewNowNext spotlights new music by upcoming and established artists we think you should know about. Tell us what you think in the comment section.

Bronze Avery – “Anybody Else”

A gold medal goes to Bronze Avery this week for this stunning pop perfection. It’s a spirited 80s vibe that feels ultra modern and smooth. It’s a jam with that who-is-this-singing quality and a confident point of view. I live for a split screen breakup story that tells both sides and love artists like this that don’t allow the industry to define them. It’s beautifully written and very relatable.

Miss Benny – “Every Boy”

So, this track may answer any question you had about next steps in your rendezvous with Miss Benny. The song caresses you into in a dreamy trance and has my favorite tempo of what a really good party sounds like, complete with the added benefit that it’s open season on boys. What’s not to love and where’s my invite? Proud of this one, making art and love.

Hannah Trigwell – “Attention”

Hannah is a Leeds-based singer-songwriter who has been growing her platform for years via YouTube and with her debut record RED late last year. She absolutely knows how to get our attention with this new banger of a track. It’s a hard-hitting, bass-driven, pop song about holding the focus of a lover. This is how to get all eyes on you, with no freakum dress required.

Greer – “Downfall”

Greer is a Boston-based indie artist with an incredibly dark and danceable track that sounds like a lost song from the early Lady Gaga days. The inspiration is our obsession with fame and the breakdown of a celebrity—loving them, but enjoying a fall from grace. This gives me flashbacks to thrashing about on NYC dance floors, often Amanda Lepore adjacent. It’s deliciously sinister.

The Veronicas – “Think of Me”

Like a banned version of a Doublemint Gum commercial, my favorite twins spare no detail in spilling the tea on their ex and their next. A sentiment like this also cuts deeper when it’s done with such surgically precise vocal harmonies, as Lisa and Jess always know how to turn it out. And I thought spring was supposed to be about love. Well, damn.
