Music Monday: 5 Songs You Need to Hear Today

The category is… music for the fearless!

NewNowNext spotlights new music by upcoming and established artists we think you should know about. Tell us what you think in the comment section.

Miss Benny – “Rendezvous”

There’s something amazing going on with this cohort of young LGBTQ YouTubers that become entertainers with enviable authenticity. “Rendezvous” is a trippy, seductive track with 60s Western vibes that’s refreshing and totally on its own trajectory. Realizing this is a debut from a 19-year-old artist makes me happy-cry for the future.

Lauv & Troye Sivan – “i’m so tired…”

This addictive dream-pop banger is the anti-love song of the week. The dual perspective visual allows me to live this fantasy where Lauv and Troye have come to pick me up from a party that was bumming me out, opting for a sunset joyride instead. Ironically, it’s hard to hear this song and not fall in love with it.

McCall – “Stone Cold”

As a 90s kid, I grew up on music featuring badass women with guitars. It spoke to me as a little gay brown person. PSA: don’t let the world tell you what you can’t do. “Stone Cold” simply put, rocks and is so lyrically relatable. McCall is the goosebumps and excitement you get from hearing something fresh and wanting to claw your way to the source of it all.

Cub Sport – “Party Pill”

The Brisbane alt-pop band just released their third self-titled album, grabbing last week’s highest local debut on the ARIA Albums chart, which is a huge deal for an independent band. “Party Pill” is angelic and absolutely captivating. Prepare to be entranced by a beautifully written and heartfelt person journey.

Leikeli47 – “Tic Boom”

Brooklyn native Leikeli47 has been a mystery behind a mask, currently on tour for her latest album Acrylic that speaks to the resilience of black womanhood. The new single “Tic Boom” is full of confidence and militaristic drumbeats that evoke strength in the face of our inner fears. Of the album 47 says: “…hard times don’t break you, they make you.” Amen.
