Lola is "Fresh Out the Oven!" Check Out a Sneak Peek of J-Lo's Alter Ego
Nice shades, but are those really practical, Ms. Lola?
By Selena Watkins
She’s 40 and Fabulous. The Flyy Girl mother of two, Mrs. Jenny from the Block is back for another round.
MTV.COM has a sneak peek of Jennifer Lopez’s new video and alter ego, Lola. The alter ego thing is not supposed to last forever, like Beyonce's Sasha Fierce. Lola is just someone J-Lo chose to represent the single and the video.
I’ve always loved J-Lo as a dancer, actress and yes, as a singer. Ever since her debut album, On the 6, she’s created killer hits. Just in case you've forgotten, let's rehash those with magnitude: "Waiting for Tonight," "If You Had My Love," "Jenny from the Block," "Aint it Funny," "Play," "Love Don't Cost A Thing," "Let's Get Loud," "Get Right," and "I'm Real." Shall I go on?
La Roux on MTV2's "Download and Discover"! See Video for "Quicksand" now!
From myspace.com/larouxuk: Elly Jackson of La Roux
Embarrassed as I am to admit this, I've only recently discovered the English electropop duo La Roux—comprised of producer Ben Langmaid and vocalist Elly Jackson—whose singles "In for the Kill" and "Bulletproof" have torn up the charts in the UK throughout most of 2009 ("Kill" peaked the charts at number 2, while "Bulletproof" reached the top spot).
Their sound isn’t new— intentionally-mechanized beats over chilly synths that work well with Jackson's whimsically ‘80s vocals—but La Roux's take on early ‘80s synthpop and new wave is often fresh and inspiring—quite possibly the best pop music around right now (the new Annie album is out in two weeks, so we'll see if that changes).
Maybe I've not sipped enough of my giant McCafe this morning (think if I write that McDonald's will send me freebies?), but I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell Lady Gaga is talking about when she describes what her music performance is gonna be like on Gossip Girl on November 19th. Can someone help me translate this? A 35-foot-long dress? Chuck Bass will be totes jealous.
In more Lady Gaga interviews, she also tells MTV's Sway all about her big Monster Ball tour (which sounds amazingly bonkers), her collabo w/Adam Lambert, her rise to fame, the Haus of Gaga, and lots of other batty sh*t. Enjoy, Pumpkins!!!
This Week In Fabulous 11/6: Comedians Turned Models, Justice Being Served and Gays In Charge!
The Fierce One himself hopes you had a fabulous week!
--By Cory Stottlemyer
Well, it's been a sort of eventful week in regards to gay politics this week. I'm making sure that we focus on everything fabulous and awesome that happened this week!
5. Joel McHale gets his model on in GQ.
Zoolander much?
I've always thought funny man Joel McHale is not only hilarious but quite cute as well. The host of E!'s The Soup and the star of the new NBC show Community appeared in a spread in the recent issue of GQ and is looking quite dapper. More of this McHale.
Fierce Halloween outfits, sexy A-list stars and amazing gay politicians after the jump!
Fergie's "Be Italian" Gives You "Nine" the Hard Way. Can You Take It?
Okay, not sure exactly what that title means, but hopefully it got your attention. The deal is that you can hear Miss Fergie-Ferg singing her tune from the coming movie musical Ninein the trailer above. It's "Be Italian" and it's show-tuney beyond belief which I loooooove.
Of course, I'm super-excited about this diva-laden film anyway... Penelope Cruz, Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard, the legendary and waxen Sophia Loren, Dame Judi Dench and others I can't even remember, all singing and dancing up a storm with lots of heels and hair and shmacting! AND Daniel Day-Lewis.
You can also hear the full-on 5-minute version of the "Be Italian" action after the jump.
As a general rule I love anything Katy Perry touches (from her cover of Outfield's "Use Your Love" to her ex Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy) so it's no surprise that I can't stop singing her recent collab with 3Oh!3, a band I used to avoid at all costs. And it helps that there are only like four lines in the song!
Even the video (posted above) is totally addictive. It's over the top and makes no sense...in a good way! Why are the boys eating sushi while rock climbing!? Let me do you a favor, just forward to 2:25 for Katy's sexy solo romp in the fountain. Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
The "Glee" Cast Plays Musical Chairs! (And Release a Blockbuster Soundtrack) Watch!!!
Hey, that wheelchair guy is totes cute in real life!!! (Photo credit: Michele Crowe, MTV)
There's no fighting the gay-tastic musical/TV juggernaut that is Glee. That is, unless you're MTV's daytime show host Alexa Chung who corrals the entire, supple cast of the show into a rousing game of musical chairs! Who would have thunk that edibly hot Mark Saling would be the first to get bumped? (No worries. I'll comfort him gladly.)
Watch the juvenile fun below!
And yes, the Glee Soundtrack, Volume 1 was released yesterday and is officially HUGE. Er, you're surprised? (Probably not, since you own it already.)
Check out another cute cast pic (courtesy of the always scrumptious Buzzworthy blog) and another Alexa/Glee video clip after the jump!
For once Michael Kors can't complain about someone's look being too costumey! Broadway Speaks OUT's Marti Cummings hobnobbed with all flavors of celebs at Bette Midler's big annual Hulaween bash this past weekend. It's a big costume klatsch wherein fancy folks dress up to raise money for Midler's amazing NY Restoration Project.
Did you know that over the years Midler and her crew of green do-gooders have picked up over 2,000 tons of trash (insert your own "picking up trash" joke here; she'd approve) and they've helped create over 55 community gardens all over NYC! So nice.
In the video Martha Stewart threatens to ruin Halloween for kids everywhere, Michael Kors serves us a very gay Gregg Allman look, and Crosby Stills & Nash even puff through. Madness! And the towering out comic Judy Gold makes a rather convincing Abe Lincoln. Shocker.
Watch "Seven" - Fever Ray's Latest And Most Confusing Attempt At A Video!
-- By Arielle Baer
It's always hard to make heads or tails of anything Swede rocker Fever Ray puts out, but her video for "Seven" takes it to the next level. Is this some kind of sacrificial dance we're watching? Or did grandma get into the liquor cabinet again and decide to relive her beauty pageant days? Either way one things for certain - that sparkle gown is fierce!
Yet I can't help but wonder...is this what Lady Gaga will look like in forty years?
Monster Mash-Up: Thrill with our Spooky Halloween Music Video Mix! Trick or Treat, Y'all!
Because half of you will be this bloody mess this Halloween, whether it's intentional or not.
It's Halloween weekend, gays! To tide you over for the (hopefully) long, fun-filled weekend, we’ve prepared a special Video Mix for the avid Halloweener in all of us. So here they are. Eight spooky, freaky videos for your pleasure.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - "Y Control"
No children or animals were hurt during the making of this bizarre, gleefully corny (and violent) video. Spike Jonze directs.
Britney Spears' New Music Video for "3" Premieres! Watch It Now!
It looks like the Princess of Pop, Britney Spears has decided to send a treat out to the gays on this Hallow's eve. Yes, boys, girls, vamps, werewolves and trans-fabulous people, we have a new video to drool over. I won't keep you any longer; watch the video for the new single "3" above! What do you think?
Almost Halloween!!!! I'm already regretting all the candy I'm gonna snarf, but it's no more decadent than this gloriously sparkling and ripely righteous video for the new single "Fire Night" by Brooklyn's electro-disco hellions Lights. (And bonus: It was directed by my Logo work colleague Lauryn Siegel.) It's sick!
As NYMag.com puts it: "You could die high and go to Halloween heaven and it wouldn’t equal" the amazingness here. Glitter, bitchin' makeup, pouty rock girls, murky pretty liquids slithering around and stuff burning... It's really all you need.
Florence + the Machine: The New Stevie Nicks Has Arrived? Live NYC Show Review! Gush! Love!
Just like a white wing dove, and with killer pipes and spewing power and emotion: Florence Walsh of Florence + the Machine.
by Paul O'Donnell
As a New Yorker today we are often plagued with the feeling that we missed out on something. There's always so much going on, where else should I be right now? Or did I get to NYC 15 years too late? Have I missed an era or all of the monumental moments? Last night proved that wrong when Britain's Florence + the Machine took the stage at the classic Bowery Ballroom. Wow.
First, haunting Holly Miranda opened the show for Florence. Missing her sidekick violinist Marques Toliver, but backed up by guitarist Tim Mislock and the infamous Nada Surf she sent goosebumps though the crowd from beneath a veil of overgrown bangs. Her performance was spectacular and had an edge of heavy rock that came slightly close to matching the razor sharpness of her voice. Miranda is definitely someone to watch, and last night she was the perfect intro to Florence + the Machine.
So here goes...
Florence's first real New York show, supporting her just-released CD Lungs(which is brilliant), introduced the audience to someone who will be remembered. A new Courtney Love mixed with Stevie Nicks, Florence pelted out vocals that were jaw-dropping while whirling around her flames of red hair contrasted against a white dress of flowing magic. Surrounded by disco-ball twilight Florence banged on a drum, put both hands in the air a la Eva Peron and let out some of the most beautifully awkward notes that made you wonder if you should cry or laugh nervously...
Sigh. Ladies and gentlemen, it was amazing.

Weezer + Lil Wayne = “Can’t Stop Partying”! Whattya Think?
As you’ve already heard by now, Weezer’s collaboration with Lil Wayneleaked into the blogosphere yesterday afternoon, and it’s…interesting.
In time for Weezer’s seventh album, Raditude, out next week, the unlikely collaboration, on a song aptly titled “Can’t Stop Partying,” signals an interesting move forward musically for both Weezer and Lil Wayne (who pled guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon last week and faces a year in jail).
Jeffree Star Interview Exclusive: Talking Lady Gaga, Halloween, Sex & His "Beauty Killer" Album
Media glamazon Jeffree Star is busy these days. Touring and appearing to promote his debut Beauty Killer album, and just basically continue his flame-haired world domination, he cruised through NYC recently, and we stalked him at his record label's office and chatted him up!
The gender-f**ker pop starlet was as outspoken and fabulous as ever (and really nice, too)! Watch our little video chat above as he dished about his love of rough boys, his Halloween plans (catch him at the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval this Saturday night), his thoughts about what Lady Gaga's got between her legs, and how he uses his media fame for good. For now.
Is Jeffree a drag queen? Is he trans? Just an extra-sparkly boy? We'll let him do the talking, thanks. He's best it at, after all.
Attention "Sexy People": Meet Lolene & Her Disco Vagina! An Exclusive Interview! Watch the Video!
Signature big curly hair.
by Selena Watkins
She emerges onto the pop music stage courtesy of a giant disco vagina.
Lolene that is, a new, sassy gay-loving pop artist from England who you're likely to hear more of very, very soon. The "disco vagina" is her own creation; it's her own theoretic vessel that's gonna spew her out into the realm of pop music domination. In the next five years, she said she sees herself ruling the charts.
Now racking up club appearances from Vegas to NYC, Lolene is serving up her music, which she dubs as "Universal Awkward Pop." She declared: “It’s flamboyant. It’s extroverted. It’s colorful. It’s brave. It’s unrestrained.”
Her style is very "Joan Collins, Dynasty, Studio 54," she says, but for the 19-year-old who hasn't slightest idea what that means, “It’s definitely super-pop, but with jagged, edgy elements that are a little bit spiky and a little bit hard to swallow sometimes.”
Lolene hails from Bristol, England, ditching home to seek out the big lights of Hollywood, California to be a songwriter. She began writing songs for other artists because it allowed her to keenly develop her skills while playing different roles and becoming different characters.
And yes, she knows the big move to Hollywood sounds cliché. “You know, everyone moves there with stars in their eyes,” she said. “But for me it was something that I knew I had to do.”
Aside from an AWESOME PROMO released a few months back, I didn’t know much about the album until the lead single, “11th Dimension,” debuted early last month.
The single’s been getting a lot of attention from music blogs and online magazines (including a glowing review over at Pitchfork), with cheerful, peppy synth flourishes accompanied by a muted drum beat that works surprisingly well with Casablancas’ so-bored-its-cool vocals.
It's all a frolicsome way to hype up Archuleta's just released Xmas album, Christmas from the Heart. And God bless the little sugar plum. He seems about up for anything!
The video also shows just how many gay (or gay-ish?) Idol fans there are in the MTV offices. Can you spot 'em???
Whoa. Is this CD cover a bit freaky looking? Is Archuleta serving us Cindy Lou Who realness? Am I being Grinchy?
This new video for "I Don't Believe You" is some gorgeous stuff, courtesy of everyone's favorite butch/femme/amazing pop star P!nk and her Funhousealbum. I'm so loving her. And I'm mildly obsessed with Pink's Twitter feed these days, @Pink. She's constantly gabbing back and forth with Sandra Bernhard (who's a big fan), and sending trippy/twisted updates from her world tour.
Last night @SandraBernhard tweeted to Pink: "Where are you now Gypsy Woman? Right behind Cher and Stevie Nicks you are our heir apparent to the gypsy crown. Wagons moving out!"
Kristen Bell of Veronica Mars, Heroes and Gossip Girl fame, will be playing the role of a cabaret singer in the new Cher/Christina Aguilera flick, Burlesque. Cher plays the owner of a struggling cabaret, and Kristen will be playing her number one girl. If you have never heard Kristen sing, then have a listen above. Christina has some competition!
Man Man's "Rabbit Habits" Brings You Werewolves for Halloween! And Free Music Downloads!
Taylor Lautner isn't the only werewolf we're jonesing to ogle these days. Check out the latest video from Philly's experimental rock-ists Man Man, "Rabbit Habits." Yes, that's Charlene Yi and SNL's Fred Armisen all blind-datey and dorky/cute. But things get a bit hairy... Charlene puts the grrrrrr into grrl power. Look out Shakira; Char's got some She-Wolf mojo of her own.
Also, right now you can download "Rabbit Habits" as well as a mess of other hot emerging indie and pop tunes from our very own NewNowNext playlist download. Get free singles from the likes of Peaches, LMFAO, Sick of Sarah, Howling Bells, Sleepthief, Band of Skulls, The Cliks, The Fire and Reason and more. Get the full skinny at our NewNowNext Concert Series page -- then download away!!!
Me? I'll be listening and trying to score some chocolates from she-wolves. Or watching Taylor do his big fuzzy werewolf transformation after the jump.
Watch Weezer's New Video: "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To"
"Welcome to Weezerville" indeed. Rivers Cuomo and the Weezer boys are back, and they must be working with a serious budget because this new video looks pretty luxe, and their sound is polished and glossier than ever!
The video for the first jangly single "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To" is pretty sharp. Beware of femme fatales who bring a plague of Final Destination-ish carnage in their wake. See, I knew girls were nothing but trouble!
You like the song? Is it weird that it sounds bit teeny-boppery to me? Have the guys been listening to All-American Rejects? And the new album Raditude (coming soon; November 3rd) will also feature guest stints from Lil' Wayne, Jermaine Dupri and some fierce Indian musicians. Sounds like it's gonna be kooky.
Get lots more behind-the-scenes stuff on the video and interviews with Cuomo and the band over at Babelgum.
Do You Like Rihanna's New Single, "Russian Roulette?"
Always fierce.
by Selena Watkins
Rihanna digitally delivered her new single "Russian Roulette" to us yesterday morning at 11:23am Eastern (how exact.)
Everybody’s been talking about it, and twittering it up, but I don’t exactly love it. I expected something a little feistier for a first single. No?
The song is very dramatic with lyrics like, "As my life flashes before my eyes, I'm wondering will I ever see another sunrise," and "Know that I must pass this test, so just pull the trigger."
It's really moving and powerful, so don't get me wrong it is a great song. (Bravo to the songwriters and Ri-Ri for maturing as a vocalist.) I just really expected something up-tempo for her first single.
The video for “Russian Roulette” will air on ABC sometime soon. No date or time has been specified yet. So far, all we’ve seen is the feisty cover shot for the single where she wears nothing but barbed wire. How risqué.
I think this video just made me cry. Or explode. Or die in a tsunami. Watch the big insane apocalyptic schmaltzy brilliance that is Adam Lambert's "Time for Miracles" video (which premiered on MySpace this morning). His voice makes freeways crumble, flameballs fall from the sky, buildings topple and tidal waves ravage the earth. Woo-hoo! Attagrrrrl!
Okay, maybe that's all just cheezy CGI footage from the forthcoming disaster flick 2012, but it's amazing. Mr. Lambert acts his pants off (only figuratively kids) and wails like a softer, younger, Steven Tyler (but less screechy; and sounding a little Richard Marx-y, frankly). And wears a serious black helmet of hair. And he's sooty. Anybody got a Wet-Nap?
And yes, I'll imagine Lambert is singing to me. If the world is ending, I want a power ballad to distract me please.
Year-End Club Banger: Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)”
Just when I thought the well had dried up for any great dance releases this year, along comes this awesome remix from New York-based DJ and turntablist A-Trak of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ similarly awesome synthpop smash “Heads Will Roll” (my favorite track off YYYs’ solid third album It’s Blitz!).
DJ A-Trak
Officially released yesterday via Pitchfork via Discobelle, “Heads Will Roll (A-Trak Remix)” is a nuts-and-bolts dance track that wouldn’t feel out of place in the early 1990s (club music’s beloved renaissance), delighting the listener in its willful simplicity: gleefully synthetic bass drums; the always reliable 808; thick, rubbery basslines accompanied by cheesy, Vegas-y synth flourishes—heaven in 6:25.
Adam Lambert Gropes, Suckles Naked Lady Model for Details! See the Hot Pics! And the Photo Shoot Video!
Um, Adam... That's not her head. You might wanna turn her... Oh, never mind.
Oh hell... Not sure if fussy gay purists are gonna get their knickers twisted over this, BUT I for one am loooving the smutty/arty pics of Adam Lambert getting all smoochy/sucky/gropey with a pretty lady model in the pages of the new Details magazine.
"Wha...? We have our one big new gay pop Idol and they have to make him conform to some hetero-cheeseball rock 'n' roll frat-boy fantasy???" Whatevs. I'm happy that Lambert can have some fun with his image. And he looks hot as hell in the pics. Plus, in the behind-the-scenes video, you can see him having a good laugh at the silliness of it all. How does he describe the shoot? In a word: "Heterosexual..." he laughs. Go Adam!
Check out the video and all the pics... Awww, isn't media riciculous-ness fun?
In the video, Lambert discusses early crushes on Madonna & Paula Abdul, but fear not gays: the openly Jewish star also openly encourages male fans to toss their jock straps on stage. F*ck, yeah!!!!
Dig all the foxy NSFW photos after the jump! And goodness, I haven't even read the cover story yet. Probably oughtta do that.
Adam Lambert & Lady Gaga Record a Song for Lambert's New Album! Yay! Excited Much?
Gaga + Glambert = Not a Bad Romance Whatsoever!
Yup, Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga got together yesterday to record a song that Ms. G wrote for the Idol runner-up. MTV News' crafty Jim Cantiello (aka @JambaJim) has been Tweeting about the news all morning, and he's got the full story!
Lambert tweeted a confirmation early today: "Yes it's true: I spent yesterday in the studio w the insanely talented and creative Lady Gaga recording a song that she wrote! I love her," Lambert tweeted. He soon added: "GaGa just gets it, ya know?"
It's not yet certain if the tune (not a duet, just a hot new Gaga-penned tune for Glambert) will be on Lambert's debut post-Idol release, For Your Entertainment, slated to drop on November 23rd. But why the hell not? Crank it out, kids!
This news makes me happy, even if we all saw it coming a mile away. Wasn't it inevitable that Lambert would be riding on Gaga's disco stick sooner or later? Yee-haw!
Sounds very "Poker Face"; and I'm not sure about all the "rah-rah, ga-ga" chanting. And also not sure about the "Walk, walk, fashion baby" rappy stuff. Er, sounds a bit dumb. BUT, I've also already listened to it twice and it's stuck madly in my head. Damn you, Gaga!!!!
Tween Idol Mika's New "Rain" Video Premieres Online! Plus, His "Poker Face" Cover!
Mika: Sweet as candy and beloved by kids just as much.
I had the good fortune of catching Mika in concert in NYC on Friday night. Yee-haw, that lanky Lebanese-born pop-star puts on a good show! Marionettes, giant inflatable balls, day-glo outfits, zingy pop music and a house-full of screaming gays and 13-year-old girls.
Did you know Mika had such a crrrraazzy rabid tween fan-base? Seriously, it seemed like over half the crowd was comprised of 7th-grade girls, their bffs, and their parents. It certainly made for an enthusiastic crowd! They sang along (loudly!), screamed, danced in the aisles and gushed effusively. (Ok, so did the gays, too.)
Below, check out the spooky/sassy video for "Rain" which hit the 'net today! And the "Rain" CD single (out Nov. 23rd) will feature "Rain" remixes and a Mika cover of "Poker Face," which is pretty hot. He did it for a BBC Radio1 Live Lounge show.
And in case you missed it, below is a somewhat grainy clip of the "Blame It On the Girls" video which popped up online recently, too. CUTE!
Exclusive: Little Boots Interview & "Earthquake" Video! Watch!
British electro-pop artist Little Boots (aka Victoria Hesketh) made a splash this year with her first single "New in Town," followed it with the hot tune "Remedy" and the UK has just seen the release of her latest video "Earthquake." Have a look below!
She also popped by to visit with MTV and Logo recently, so we chatted her up the self-proclaimed gizmo-obsessed geek girl! Watch above as she talks about her name, her spunky style and getting all rainbow-hued for her big show at Manchester Pride earlier a couple of months ago. Love her!
A new full-on Little Boots album will get released in the US next year. It'll have a ton of new songs just for us Yanks!
After the jump, watch her brand new video for "Earthquake," and a classic homemade one of her covering the amazing "Overload" by Sugababes. Fab!
X Factor's Leading Men: Danyl Johnson & Joe McElderry. Got a Favorite?
X Factor's Top Men: Danyl Johnson & Joe McElderry (right).
The UK's X Factor talent competition show is going strong. Whitney Houston performed on it this past Saturday (her dress was a mess; as many say her performance was). And then the show's judge Dannii Minogue got in trouble for joking on-air about contestant Danyl Johnson's bisexuality.
But Danyl Johnson needn't apparently worry. He's one of the front-runners to win the competition. And yes, he has come out as bisexual; he's apparently hosted a long-running karaoke show at London's gay Ku Bar for awhile. Meanwhile, other contestants say Danyl's an arrogant bully. Eh? Below is his performance of Whitney Houston's "I Didn't Know My Own Strength." Whattya think?
And then there's cute-as-a-Disney-chipmunk Joe McElderry. I'm not finding published evidence of Joe's gayness; but apparently in a back-story profile, as a kid Joe dabbled in transvestitism (but what kid doesn't)? For what it's worth, Boy George tweeted this past weekend: "I think Joe McElderry should win X Factor, he has great soul and a gorgeous smile." Does Joe have your Gaydar buzzing?
Watch performances by both Danyl and Joe below. You like? In that way?
Recovering Divas: Whitney on X Factor; Boy George Talks Rehab. Are They Back for Good?
Whitney on TV in Germany this past week; Boy George hits a London fashion show last month.
This weekend two 80s divas hit the UK media circuit in a big way. Whitney Houston did a guest performance on Simon Cowell's X Factor talent parade (the Idol-esque show which gave the world Leona Lewis). The show's contestants all sang songs by divas, with Whitney's hits getting peformed by a bunch of them. You can watch her performance of "Million Dollar Bill" on the show below.
How do you think Whitney did? Some of the UK press have been critical about it. Yes, she was a little messy. She might wanna stay away from dancing, frankly. Her begrudging attempts at choreography were sort of amusingly weak; but you could tell she didn't care. And besides, her dress was nearly falling off! And, the gown was all wrong anyway; way too matronly diva. She should be in a shorter, more contemporary dress. That big droopy sequined number was weighing her down, she had to drag it all over the stage.
But she's still fascinating to watch. Of course, Boy George sniped via his @theBoyGeorge Twitter account: "Whitney was messy on X-Factor, it's not right and it's far from ok!" Such a bitch (I sort of love it.) Though maybe he was commenting on the way her performance was handled or conceived, rather than Whitney's own responsibility for it? Who can say?
Annie’s “Don’t Stop” (Finally) Hits Stores November 17!
Delayed for over a year (with a myriad of leaked track listings to boot), Norwegian electro-pop chanteuse Annie’s sophomore album, Don’t Stop, finally sees the light of day on November 17.
Though it’d be hard to expect another stellar pop album similar to its predecessor, Anniemal (named the 167th album of the 2000s by Pitchfork), I think the next album will show traces of maturity in both lyrical and musical content while still keeping a foot in the power-pop bliss that made the latter album such a fresh, rewarding listen.
The single “Songs Remind Me of You” sounds like she’s onto something promising, giving me hope the rest of the album doesn’t falter the way other sophomore releases quite often do.
Ke$ha used to sing back-up for Britney, she appeared in Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" video, and her whole Nashville family was featured in an episode of The Simple Life. And now, she may just be the next pop-princess/bad-girl-you-should-know.
Her single "Tik Tok" is busting out all over radio nationwide, and chances are you're gonna hear it if you go out to dance around a bit this weekend. And in addition to have those good Britney/Katy connections, Ke$ha is also ever-so-resourceful. Here's how this plucky 22-year-old is coping with hard times these days through her music:
"I just really wanted to embody the lifestyle that I live," Ke$ha told PopEater about the song, "Tik Tok." "We're all young and broke and it doesn't matter. We can find clothes on the side of the street and go out and look fantastic, and kill it. If we don't have a car that doesn't stop us, because we'll take the bus. If we can't afford drinks, we'll bring a bottle in our purse. It's just about not letting anything bring you down."
Attagirl! Also, Ke$ha likes beer and behaving badly. And taking pictures of such exploits. Her MySpace photo albums are fun treasure trove of drunky pics and snarky captions. Enjoy!
Ke$ha: "Charm School, here I come!!!!
And watch out for her full-length album coming in 2010. Cheers!
Beyonce & Lady Gaga Team Up for B's "Video Phone!" Expect Mad Fashions! Freaky Dancing!
Lady Gaga & Beyonce and the child-labor dancers they had shipped in for their shoot. And the kids' broker!
When divas collide: Beyonce and Lady Gaga have apparently collaborated on the new music video from the I Am... Sasha Fierce hit factory. Turns our that Beyonkers shot the video for "Video Phone" in Brooklyn's fab hipster ghetto Greenpoint last week, and Ms. Gaga showed up to dance and donate some vocal doo-dads, too!
MTV.com talked to the clip's director, Hype Williams who confirmed that the two divas do appear together. And Life & Style mag reports that "security on set was extremely tight, and the video is shaping up to be a fashion bonanza, with Beyoncé wearing 'a feathered dress' and Gaga sporting 'something wild ... the fashion is sick and insane.'"
MTV also reports: "The clip features 'lots of choreography' and 'more dancers than the two girls [Beyoncé is] always with.'"
Give "Video Phone" a preview listen... Click through for the whole tune. AND, how do you think Gaga will fit into the mix?
Mika Does Letterman; Arjan's Got a Free "Rain" Remix for You! Download Away!
Mika arrives the Letterman studio on Wednesday. Cute, much?
Lovely Brit-boy pop star Mika is making the rounds for his new album, The Boy Who Knew Too Much. Tonight he hits NYC with a sure-to-be sparkly good show way uptown at the gilded and ornate United Palace Theatre. I'm going! I'll serve up a report on Monday.
Fittingly, given the completely cold and messy weather we're having, Arjan at Arjanwrites has a hot mp3 download of the new Magistrates remix of "Rain" which can be yours for free right now. The track (which Mika wrote about a big breakup) was produced by Stuart Price, and the result is a sleek pop confection that's also kind of gorgeously angsty. The official "Rain" single gets released on November 23rd.
For those of you who've never read the book (what! then what are you doing reading this blog? get your ass to Amazon now!) the story is simple; in fact the book is only ten sentences long.
In the story penned by gay author Maurice Sendak, little boy Max dons a wolf costume and raises such a ruckus he's sent to bed without dinner. Max runs away into the land of the Wild Things where he's made King and parties it up big time until he becomes homesick and returns to where he came from. Some NewNowNext readers may recognize themes common to anyone who's seen Wizard of Oz or lived in West Hollywood.
Max and his monstrous buds.

Now you just need to find some voguing queens in tuxes to back you up. And a hot Nordic stud/TV-vampire to toss you off a balcony. Trick or treat!
Lady Gaga Announces "Monster Ball" Dates; Tour Kicks Off November 27th; Kid Cudi's Opening!
These kids are taking it on the road, monstrously.
If Freddie Mercury were alive, he'd be Lady Gaga. Or that what's I'm thinking as I heard that Miss G has announced details for her "Monster Ball" tour, which is gonna kick off in Montreal on November 27th and spook its way (voguing throughout, I'm sure) across North America before it wraps up in the singers hometown of NYC with dates at Radio City Music Hall on January 20th and 21st.
Kid Cudi is going to opening for Gaga (and Kanye West can just sit at home and pick at scabs).
Says Lady Gaga of this gay-tastic event: "The Haus of Gaga had been designing 'The Monster Ball' for premiere in 2010 at the O2 Arena in London, but due to diligent work and preparation, 'The Monster Ball' will begin on November 27 in Montreal. 'The Monster Ball' is a multimedia artistic experience in the style of the first-ever 'pop electro opera.'" I'm gagging already.
On November 23rd, Lady Gaga will serve up the release of The Fame Monster, a revamp of The Fame album, with eight entirely new songs, including the already leaked "Bad Romance." And here's another instructional quote from the singer: "A message to all my little monsters: 'The Fame Monster' will come out four days before the first live show. You have exactly 96 hours to learn all of the lyrics so you can sing along. Dress accordingly."

Katy Perry is only one-step behind Lady Gaga (okay, maybe a few steps) in the whole sort of "just a year or so ago I was nobody and now I'm a global pop icon" realm, so you know what that means? Time for chance at an MTV Unplugged special. Get a preview of what Miss P will serve up on November 16th above.
Are you feeling the pink and purple Victoria's Secret chill-out lounge look for the set? How about the jazzy/cabaret take on "I Kissed a Girl"? Katy says the look she's going for is "Stevie-Nicks-meets-fairy" but if that's the case, she better go shawl-shopping and round up a top hat and some tambourines pronto!
P.S. Katy, if you need some help with that shopping list, I can hook you up.
Just a sample of the crazy staging and lighting Minogue crafted for her US tour.
This weekend marked a historic event in gay history. No, I’m
not talking about the National March for Equality in WashingtonDC; I’m talking about the culmination of Kylie
Minogue’s first US tour here in the center of the entertainment universe, New York City. The deed went down at The Hammerstein Ballroom, a pretty big venue, but still surprisingly intimate. Kylie's set list was filled with the usual suspects, 'Come Into My World', 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head', 'Love At First Sight', etc.
The show, simply put, was FAB-U-LOUS. Every aspect of Kylie’s
performance was 100% on point. Her show was an experience with wild lights,
futuristic costumes and SEXY DANCERS (see below). I'm told the set was stripped down from her other international shows, but still, Kylie was lowered on stage standing on top of a giant metallic skull. So hot.
Look at these sexy dancers! These were some of their 'more conservative' outfits, catch my drift?
Florence + the Machine Is Coming! You'll Be Glad. Watch Killer Videos!
Britain's Florence + the Machine are coming to North America, starting with a sold-out show in NYC on October 27th, then gigs in L.A., Montreal and Toronto. If you start now, you can maybe figure out how to get tickets because you will not wanna miss out.
An art-school dropout, Florence Welch hails from South London, and her debut US release Lungshits streets next Tues., October 20th. (It's available via iTunes now.) She's loud, red-headed, with dynamically mind-blowing pipes and a kickass attitude and style that'll make you fear and love her all at once. She's way emotional and brassy: "Everything is about boys!" she says of her album. "Love and PAIN." Wow. She's like a less-drunk Winehouse!
Avove, watch her video of her genius, epic, haunting UK hit "Dog Days Are Over" above. Kaboom! And below, her cover of the legendary "You've Got the Love," which you know (as sung by Candi Staton, and used in Sex and the City, and loads of other places). Very hot.
More amazing Florence + the Machine videos after the jump. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!
Ida Maria's "Oh My God" Video, Featuring Iggy Pop! Watch!
Some rock from new Norwegian indie goddess Ida Maria this morning. It's her new "Oh My God" video, with a glorious guest spot from punk survivor Iggy Pop. Its slamming beats and arty graphics are better than about 12 espresso shots to perk you up this fine crisp fall a.m.
And look at him!!!! Glambert is known for his fashion-y excess, but he's looking like he stole Kate Gosselin's wig, painted it black, put it on sideways and then suited up for the all-gay production of Little House on the Prairie! (Which, when you think of it would be the best show of all time.)
But no matter. As soon as Lambert opens his mouth, he's so nice and sweet my crabby critique just turned to thoughts of puppies and popsicles. Smooches all around!
Oh, but... Ouch. Gurl, somebody needs some lip-chap.
Neil Patrick Harris Vs. Batman: A Musical Preview of His Cartoon Supervillain Alter Ego!
Neil Patrick Harris' Music Meister: Channeling 80s-pop-singer Falco, maybe?
EW's Michael Ausiello -- always with a nose for sassy TV news -- has posted a totally cute musical video snippet of the new Batman villain, Music Meister (who's very fond of festive costume changes apparently) voiced by everyone's favorite gay TV-it-boy/nerd Neil Patrick Harris. Head to EW.com for a look at the zingy musical number, "Drives Us Bats!"
The full episode of Beyond Batman: The Brave and the Bold will premiere on Cartoon Network on October 23rd. Meanwhile, this gig must have been heaven for self-proclaimed geek NPH.
And since I'm not too familiar with the Beyond Batman series, I gotta ask: Is it always this, er, gay? Or am I just reading too much into this sassy musical number featuring big bad guys working out in prison and villains with campy facial hair singing petulantly? Even Aquaman shows up, looking studly with a hot blond beard, yet pouting 'cuz Batman gets all the good hero gigs. GAY!!!
Anyway, it's also just one more step in NPH's ever increasing world takeover. Holy Homo Megastars, Batman!
And because I can't ever resist a pic of cute NPH and David Burtka, here are the happy gents in NYC last week. (Photo by Bruce Glikas/Getty.)
Adam Lambert's Leaked Song from 2012, "Time for Miracles..." You Like?
This popped up this past weekend: A leak of "Time for Miracles," which is the tune gay Idol almost-champ Adam Lambert recorded for the big new 2012 film, and his first big solo single. Get a taste above!
Nice to know AL isn't playing around. This one sounds hugely epic and Aerosmith-worthy... But come on! I wanna to hear the whole thing to experience some Adam wailing at its best. Meanwhile, November 24th is the street date for Adam's his full-on album. Can you wait?
Hear that? It's Adam Lambert's new single and holiday-season world takeover hurtling toward us all!!!!
Gately made waves in 1999 when he came out, making him the first openly gay member of a boy band. As a rabid Boyzone fan (and one of the few teenage anglophiles I knew), I remember talking about the story non-stop with my sister when it happened. Not because I was surprised that he was gay - we knew one of them had to be (though I had my money on Shane) - but because I was shocked he had come out at all. In the 90's it didn't seem possible to be gay and in a successful boy band.
But Gately proved me wrong. That same year Boyzone released their greatest hits album, By Request, which went on to be the 2nd bestselling album that year. And once the band split in 2000, he continued working, this time in theater.
The boys reunited last year for a comeback tour and put out a new single "Love You Anyway" (check out the adorable video above). A new album was recorded that is set for release in 2010. Gately's passing is a true loss, but it's safe to say that while he was with us he made a lasting contribution.
Mariah Carey Helps Gay Boy Propose Marriage Onstage! Awwwwww!
Lady Gaga may be getting big (and deserved) props for speaking about about gay rights such as gay marriage equality in DC this past weekend, but legendary diva Mariah Carey isn't just talking about it. SHE'S HOSTING ENGAGEMENT PARTIES AND GAY PROPOSALS ONSTAGE!!!
This past weekend in Vegas (this comes via Perez) Mimi brought a sweet gay-boy couple up onstage and one of the cuties surprised his beau by popping the question, with Mimi's help. The adorable groom-to-be whipped out a pink & purple candy ring and even Mariah was impressed. Suddenly it was sweetness and "yes!" and champagne all around!
And the crowd looooved it! God bless our fairy god-sister Mariah! I was half waiting for a winged unicorn to float in and and carry them all away!!! My heart melted!
The cast of Broadway's Hair took the stage at the National Equality March and Rally yesterday, toward the end around 5pm. The sun was beaming down on the Capitol and the hundreds of thousands gathered there, and when the gorgeous cast members belted out "Let the Sun Shine In" it was pretty amazing. Get a small sample above!
Hair's Gavin Creel led his crew of Broadway Impact activists (a group of theater professionals from NYC), bringing buses of people to the march and rallying support for the march. Gavin also tweeted nonstop; you can review his posts from the live coverage still viewable on 365Gay.com.
