Oooh, yeeeah - P Thugg and Dave 1 are continuing their "sensual conquest of Planet Earth" with another round of synth-pop perfection. The beats on the title track of Chromeo's sophomore album ... they're just so well-done.
I can't stop thinking of Dave 1 - real name David Macklovitch - as an undergraduate professor at Columbia ... which he is. Singing about seducing women on the dance floor usually requires more of a bad-ass factor - but I suppose that's part of Chromeo's Flight of the Conchords-esque charm.
Enjoy more freaky, disembodied legs, guys!
I'm already over this whole Mariah Carey fake marriage to Nick Cannon thing - I really just can't buy it, I'm sorry - and her new E=MC2 single, loaded with "home videos" of "the couple," is just annoying me even more. Although, I do enjoy the scene of Mimi wiping away a single, glistening tear on that grandma couch.
Now, I love E=MC2 - even though I wish the label had gone with "Cruise Control" or "Side Effects" as the follow-up to "Touch My Body" - and as far as my love for Mariah herself? I'm still recovering from her threatening her backup singer mid-song on Good Morning America.
So Mariah's amazing, but "Bye, Bye" is pretty lame to me. Waitin' for the next one... (P.S. I'm totally that little gay boy crying while getting her autograph.)
For some astonishing reason, I didn't watch The Pussycat Dolls Presents: Girlicious; I mean, I love that drag queen Robin Antin. So, Girlicious was the follow-up to The Search for The Next Doll, which I did watch, and which resulted in the disastrous Asia, who the Pussycat Dolls quickly vetoed because she was a psycho. Oh, no! That's just a rumor.
Anyway, I'm not surprised these girls are a poor man's Pussycats, but I am disappointed. They're actually closer to a poor man's Danity Kane – and that is one poor man. When I heard "Do you" I was totally primed for "got a first aid kit handy."
But props for that really filthy line "If I had a stiff one, you'd be all on that" and for the obscene gesture one of the girls made to go along with it.
I've read reviews of Panic at the Disco's Pretty.Odd album describing its sound as more "classic" and "mature" than quirky A Fever You Can't Sweat Out; OK, fine - but bouncy-ballad number two? This is their new direction?
I do like the P at the D guys and their gay-friendly ways, as well as this Moulin Rouge-y - or maybe Sgt. Pepper-y - single cover - but I'm just not feeling this song. For "That Green Gentleman," the band sings "I wanna go where everyone feels the same" and proceeds to a too-green park for some good ol' fashioned fun - like riding those bikes with the enormous front wheels.
And say hello to the Nokia product placement while you're there!
If you haven't heard the first Pretty.Odd single yet, check out an acoustic version of "Nine in the Afternoon" the guys taped for MTV after the jump.

So many done-up, gay artistes in one studio! Step ... away ... from the baby oil. The "Flawless" New York music trio The Ones - we love Nashom, Jojo and Paul here at NNN.com, of course - released its debut, self-titled album earlier this year, and "When We Get Together" is the group's latest single.
Not like Confessions on a Dance Floor, but it's just as gay: The video is so loaded with gay cameos/friends of the group, I don't know where to begin. The Ones know how to have fun with their friends, and what's more fun than getting oiled up and eye-f*cking the camera? Everyone loves that - and everyone's so shiny!
So you can't miss Debbie Harry, but I also spot porn-star-turned-singer Colton Ford, rapper Cazwell, "the real" Ari Gold ... Scissor Sisters. Hmm ... Johnny McGovern?
I don't have beef with Scar-Jo, but what the ef was that? Since I thought it would never happen, I'm actually proud of myself for listening to a whole track from her CD of Tom Waits covers - and maybe one original song? - called Anywhere I Lay My Head.
When it comes to the video, maybe I shouldn't be asking questions, but is she playing herself? Is Scarlett getting her makeup done and checking her BlackBerry in the car supposed to move me?
... And was that just Salman Rushdie?
Umm, wasn't it successful enough? Well, Rihanna's re-releasing Good Girl Gone Bad in May, and the first new single is "Take a Bow." Not you for once, Leona Lewis!
There's not a ton going on in the video other than Rihanna pacing around high-end apartments – but I kind of dig her performance. She has the elfin haircut and that simple, skinny black tank top; it's kind of gender-bendy.
You know what, though? This "plot" reminds me of "Irreplaceable"; I thought Ri-Ri was going to bust out a "To the left, to the left..."
The F.O.Boys performed a rock-ish cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It" for new concert album/DVD, Fall Out Boy: **** Live in Phoenix, but goodies for fans, the group also filmed an official music video. Lead singer Patrick Stump's voice is still amazing, and the glittered gloves and whipping limbs wink just enough at the original.
In his interview with NewNowNext, Pete Wentz said Fall Out Boy performances tend toward the homoerotic, and while there were no major moments in this video, I did enjoy Pete licking is guitar ... and his hair.
Acoustic-pop guitarist KT Tunstall has that devoted lesbian following on her resume, but I'm also a major fan of Drastic Fantastic - especially of second track, "If Only." Here's the official music video for the song, which features KT taking on the ski slopes.
Not really what I was expecting ... KT never even opens her mouth to sing in the whole video. And the lyrics for "If Only" never made me think of sports, but I guess I'm just gay like that.
KT bites it in the end, to give it away for ya. Such a weird idea for the video... Well, the song itself is still amazing. And you can watch another Drastic video, "Hold On," after the jump...

I can't forget, Fresh Takes star Alicia Keys still makes music videos. Her third As I Am single is a tribute to the '80s Spike Lee movie School Daze - but if that's not enough, love interest Derek Luke makes the vid worth a watch no matter what.
But ... eh ... Alicia's music is the kind I appreciate but would never ever listen to on my own time. I mean, who would ever really listen to Alicia singing about going to first base? I do like her performance, though; she connects and comes off genuine for her cutesy dance number at the student union.
But why does Alicia keep playing roles far too young for her?
Way to ruin it, Mom! Gossip Girl's Kelly Rutherford officially revealed the series' gay character. And yes, Kelly, since you filmed it, it's probably going to happen. – USWeekly
'Cause Ty Ty just loves him: Clay Aiken guested on The Tyra Banks Show's 500th episode. True love! – Just Jared
You kind of have to watch the Riskay "Smell Yo D*ck" music video – but, surprise, it's for mature audiences only. – Blastro
Lindsay Lohan gave the best quote I've heard in a long time when she told an Olsen to back off her main woman, Samantha Ronson. - Dlisted
Pushing Daisies and Soldier's Girl star Lee Pace is hot ... basically. - ONTD
No, you're not watching The Lord of the Rings; it's actually Mary J. Blige's second Growing Pains single, "Stay Down." I'm not sure what to say about the video concept, though - sweeping views of
arctic landscapes with Mary J. in really high-end winter apparel? ... Sure, I guess.
"Stay Down" makes me think Mary J. just kicked someone's ass, but she's actually appealing to her man to wait out their relationship. I'd say she stays in her lower range throughout – especially that "Did you know, did you know, did you know?" part ... that totally could have been Chris Brown.
Mild-mannered electro-rock quartet Hot Chip is ready for its new video - which will mark its third single from '08 album, Made in The Dark.
This artsy, animated number reminds of me something Junior Senior would do: The guys are all pointillist and bang on different geometric shapes and nerd-ily rock out. The look is interesting, and I like Hot Chip, but to quote "One Pure Thought," this video may be "a trip that I wouldn't want to take again." I almost found it disturbing ... am I weird?
Since I kinda preferred Hot Chip's earlier video, "Ready for The Floor" - also from Made in The Dark - it's after the jump...

Sara Bareilles is a total MTV darling thanks to hit track "Love Song," her Rhapsody commercial and that tour with Maroon 5 ... not to downplay her involvement in the whole thing, though! Her Little Voice album is officially gold, and she'll tour with Counting Crows and Maroon 5 this summer.
I love Sara's cheeky smile for the camera. The lyrics for the track are a bit ambiguous: Sara is all for love, love, love - but she needs all you overly-sensitive types to calm down ... and chill with your piano?
Swedish superstar Robyn performed live in the U.S. for the first time ever earlier this year in NYC and at SXSW, but we'll have to wait a little longer for a non-import of her self-titled 2005 album.
"Who's That Girl" is my favorite of the Robyn tracks, so I was psyched for this video; I can't say I'm crazy about this number, though. I'm actually confused: When I spoke with her - check out Robyn's NewNowNext interview here - Robyn said she had just filmed this video and that it involved a lot of concepts I'm not seeing here. I enjoy the animated text and the retro footage of different women, but Robyn is awkward ... and the whole thing just feels low-budget. Where's my girl?
West coast band Xiu Xiu - whose leading man and songwriter, Jamie Stewart, is gay ... and kinda cute - has released another conceptual video for its 2008 Women As Lovers album. Watch "F.T.W." through that link via Pitchfork.com. The video's a series of stills, but don't lose interest; it's totally mesmerizing.
The song itself is bleak and acoustic-y - and Jamie adds some tragic wails. I don't know what the title refers to, but I'll vouch for the song's impact. Plus images of religious texts, ancient calligraphy - and a bird-watching guide? - mixed with shots of an everyday apartment and someone cutting themselves ... it all worked on me...
You guys! Jeez, Avril - I loved "Girlfriend" as much as the next gay, but you are really pushing it with this one.
I actually never listened to Ms. Lavigne's The Best Damn Thing album's title track and fourth single, but it's the girliest throwaway track I have ever heard. ...And I have seriously-low standards when it comes to that!
Avril references a random girl - who's not like her, OK?! - and rocks out to boys not being chivalrous enough.

You may still see my first "4 Minutes" video post in which I OMFG-ed my gay ass off, but the official version is now at my disposal - it premiered on NewNowNext on LOGO last night - so I think it's time for a rehash!
Watching it again, I enjoy that brief treadmill bit and Madge checking herself out in the public bathroom mirror ... uh, the world is ending here! And music-wise, Justin is great, but he's exuding douche here more than ever.
Ma-DAAH-nna! Gimme that candy!
UPDATE: Catch the hot broadcast TV premiere (or "Gay TV Premiere" at least) of the "4 Minutes" video this Sunday, April 6th at midnight on Logo's NewNowNext Music. Madge and Justin will be grinding just for us -- the gays! Bless! Have I been obsessing over Madonna too much lately? Probably - but this is big news: It's the first video for her upcoming Hard Candy album, "4 Minutes"! (It's available via iTunes; there's a preview below.) That song is pure you-wish-you-had-a-stripper-pole fun, and the vid - directed by French-ies Jonas and Francois - matches the energy.
Madge and JT outrun this crazy phalanx / apocalypse thing while looking really hot and seducing each other. Wow, the idea of Justin and Madonna getting it on is surprisingly hot ... and I'm talking the whole package here! But Justin ripping off Madonna's clothes? Kind of stirs up Nipplegate memories.
As much as I love Timbaland, in the same way his segment of the track feels a little tacked on, his presence in the video is lacking ... But! In the same way Madge's and JT's vocals work wonders together, the pair looks amazing when they interact. The dance break is insane!
Check the preview below! (Or psssssst! Go watch the whole thing on this U.K. news site.)
Alison Goldfrapp and I are still in a a fight over her dissing Madonna and Kylie, but I did watch the video for Goldfrapp's second Seventh Tree single, "Happiness."
I commend the team for this being done all in one take: Over the course, a well-dressed young man bounces around a small town, interacting with very accepting locals. There's even a dog trick in there!
P.S. Was "Happiness" in a recent commercial? I feel like it was, but I can't place it ... or maybe I just assumed, since so many Goldfrapp songs are now associated in my mind with Diet Coke / cell phones / Target...
Kanye West is onto his fifth Graduation single with this release; I was hoping for some sort of continuation of his dark, mysterious "Flashing Lights" video, but no luck.
It's one of my favorite Graduation tracks, though, and Kanye's videos have all been compelling. This one is a black-and-white ode to his native Chi-city and those Lake Michigan fireworks. Chris Martin's segments feature some cool silhouette special effects as well.
Bjork fans: The video for the fourth Volta single is every bit as beautiful and bizarre and disturbing as you could possibly want. I would think, anyway...
"Wanderlust" mixes amazing sets with fluid and seamless CGI - and the image of Bjork struggling with that corpse-ish doll/demon coming out of her back as she rides yak creatures down a river ... um, what can I say? It definitely affected, though.

Fred says: Segway to warp speed! Back to Georgia roots, the new video from loopy "pleasure seekers" The B-52s is all about rampaging your local mall, and it features all the space-traveling psychedelics I'd expect from The Ultimate Party Band. They're still causin' a riot!
Funplex, the band's first studio album in 16 years, is still available for preview on LOGOonline ... and soon enough, The B-52s will join Cyndi Lauper on the True Colors tour. Now enjoy the wackiness...
You may have caught NewNowNext.com's interview with Kate Pierson and Fred Schneider of cosmic pop-punk party band The B-52s a while back, but check out this mini-revelation: The always queer-friendly group has a new, official gay!
And more news: The band's Funplex album - its first new material in 15 years! - came out this week. Faster, pussycat! We love these gays! And don't miss the "Funplex" music video world TV premiere on LOGO ... on NewNowNext Music Sunday night!
Amy Winehouse's little sister? No, it's Tennessee power-pop band Paramore and its new Riot! single. I can't say I'm crazy about the song, but I can say I have a crush on those Farro brothers. We need more of them. By the way, they're not breaking up.
I also can't say what's happening in this video - I just picked up on hipsters and cell-phone product placement - but it looks like the crew is genuinely having fun, which has some merit for me.
Since the Black Kids made a name via loads of MySpace love-buzz, you know their debut, "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend to Dance with You" (watch the video via Pitchfork). But along with an actual record deal, the crew now has an official video - complete with lasers, neon animation and powdered wigs. Oh, and cheerleaders!
I don’t believe any of these five is gay, but still there’s that wonderfully-ambiguous line, "You are the girl I’ve been dreaming of ever since I was a little girl" from lead singer Reggie Youngblood (and what a name!). In addition, Reggie told Vice the Black Kids met in "culturally-bereft" Jacksonville, Fla. Sunday School and took advantage of loads of sexual repression to get laid. Makin' mama proud! What cool kids...
I can't say I was a fan of Minnesota alt-rap/emo-hop group Atmosphere before now, but this new video is all kinds of nightmarish and mesmerizing ... gay too. "Shoulda Known" is from Atmosphere's upcoming album When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Sh*t Gold. Hmm...
Not that I speak from tons of experience or anything (I swear!), but this team does a great job of capturing the loss of perspective and sense of time, as well as the crippling anxiety, of a bad drug trip. The almost-nauseating intensity continues throughout the video, which follows the wordless breakup of two women.
He let her drive his truck? That is so messed up. This is the fourth single from 18-year-old Taylor Swift's debut - but it's actually the first song I ever bothered to listen to. Eek! People said it sounded like Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" - that's one hell of a compliment, little girl - so I had to try it out. It's definitely the poor man's, but I still enjoy it: It's kind of talk-y, and Taylor's all youthful and unpretentious.

Noooo! Did Jive get the same intern who made Britney Spears' awful Blackout album cover to make this video? I don't get it - "Break the Ice" was wonderful ... wonderful, I tell you! Blackout was wonderful. How do they keep slopping together the promos? Maybe Britney just didn't show up again.
Ugh ... so it looks like Britney's trying to be Aeon Flux - with an even smaller budget. They couldn't even make the words fit her mouth?
I live for Danity Kane trying to take itself seriously: First off, that name - isn't it one of the girls' stupid, made-up anime character? - is ridiculous. And there are just no words for Aubrey O'Day. "Damaged" is the lead single from the group's upcoming, sophomore album, Welcome to the Dollhouse - and it's no "Show Stopper," but you should probably watch it anyway. (Also, MTV.com is streaming the full Welcome to the Dollhouse album right now.)
The video looks like a cross between the America's Next Top Model Cycle 9 promo and a wannabe "Oops...I Did It Again." Oh, and the dramatic dialog - This Too Shall Pass ... Stereotypes - ...only Danity Kane. I still love D. Woods, though. Can you fix my h-e-a-r-t?
This Brooklyn girl who grew up in Philadelphia has a musical a style I ... wouldn't expect from her upbringing, to say the least. Santi White - goes by Santogold - has a new video, perhaps her first, for her "LES Artistes" track ... and I'm not sure what to think about it. I like the song a lot, but what is going on?
The footage of New York-ers' colorful, food-related dismemberment is pretty powerful ... and alienating. I read on ONTD the video's based on cult film The Holy Mountain, but that doesn't really get me anywhere. Anyway, I recommend it...
Find out who Santogold hangs out with - after the jump!

It's for the children! That's right, Janet Jackson revealed in her interview with NewNowNext (follow that link for the full Q&A) she picked out her second Discipline single, "Rock With U," especially for the gays! ...and boy, is it gay!
"Rock with U" is totally sexy and loaded with hot back-up dancers pop-ing-and-locking in-synch with Ms. Jackson - who's rocking Paula Abdul hair. And I spy quite a few drag queens! This is Janet's idea of a fun night out, after all ...?
The whole concept of the reject anthem American Idol adopted seems a little cruel to me, and the current season's track is even more literal than Daniel Powter's "Bad Day." But maybe I just don't get it as a non-watcher. On his debut for Idol, newcomer Ferras sings, "Put your blue jeans back on, girl / Go home - remember, Hollywood's not America." (Follow that link to read Ferras' interview with NewNowNext!)
Young Ferras certainly has some talent, and he's totally gay-friendly - he loves Elton John and even impersonated him on TV - but whether or not he'll promptly disappear post-Idol like Powter remains to be seen. There's something about this track I can't help but like, though. His debut album, Aliens and Rainbows, comes out April 1.

This So Me guy does amazing work; there's just so much love behind the videos he makes! Once again, French duo Justice recruited artist So Me for its new single "DVNO" - So Me did Justice's t-shirt video for "D.A.N.C.E." and Kanye West's "Good Life" - and the man lives up to his rep.
I'm not doing it justice (ha!), but the video transforms the song's lyrics into pop-culture logos, some of which are familiar to me. The "DVNO" track itself is from Justice's impossible-to-type "cross" album with vocals from Mehdi Pinson from the band Scenario Rock.

Whew! Certainly a step up from Leona Lewis's recent charity music video for "Footprints in the Sand"; I was getting worried nothing would live up to the wonders of "Bleeding Love." And while "Better in Time" isn't playing in the same league, I do enjoy it; at least it's an actual music video this time.
Leona gives us a glimpse into her hard life of getting her makeup done and doing photo shoots. I read the video featured Leona riding a horse, but it looks like they just went with Leona standing next to a horse ... whatevs.

Run, children! Gnarls Barkley is back to trip you the ef out with this neon, '70s groove-fest of a video; it's for Gnarls' upcoming, sophomore album, The Odd Couple - due in April.

"Push" was the best part about Enrique Iglesias' Insomniac album; I'm surprised they held off to release a sex-ified music video. It might have something to do with the song's place on the Step Up 2 soundtrack, whose cast, I believe, is in this video. Enrique sure does sell out his spots! Too bad they didn't call back Heather from America's Next Top Model.
I do really like this video and this song, though; it features a faux-orgy along the lines of the "I'm a Slave 4 U" video, and there is some serious male hotness ... serious! But that bandana thing belongs to JT and Robyn, Enrique. You should have just kept the mole!

Ashanti's coming up on her fourth album? I had no idea... I just liked her from that amazing "What's Luv" song way back in 2002. Well, this new single is from her upcoming The Declaration, and she plays an incredibly rich, scorned lover who murders her cheatin' man ... or else it's all a nightmare from trying to drown herself in her luxury tub. Hey! That's Britney's thing!
I feel like Ashanti wishes she was someone else, artistically; this video feels rehashed ... or artificially dramatic. But maybe I'm being too hard on her; she's proved she can be great given the right song.

And boy, is it inspirational! "Footprints in the Sand" is the second/third single (along with "Better in Time") from X-Factor winner Leona Lewis' debut album, Spirit. The song's also the Sport Relief charity's official anthem for 2008 ... hence the inspiration.
If you haven't heard Leona Lewis yet (follow that link for her interview with NewNowNext), she's as good as Mariah or Whitney, but she's 22 and totally modest and wholesome - so watch the video just to hear her voice. And hearing is what you'll be doing, as the video's mainly black-and-white footage from Leona's trip to Africa for Sport Relief.

Hollywood band Metro Station, with its self-titled debut, turned out a new video this week, and it's definitely a step up from lead single "Kelsey." I like the melody of the lead a bit more, but "Control" has its synth-y, buzz-y moments - which I always have a weakness for. I also like tattooed Trace Cyrus taking the spotlight from weird-looking Mason Musso this time around.
The video's set in a sweaty, greasy apartment party complete with oil-wrestling, a space walk and spin-the-bottle. Meanwhile, the Metro guys sing, "Take it off, let’s just touch / I’m coming down, bring me up" ... very fitting, I guess. |
