Britney Spears has finally come out with her latest video for her next single, "Radar", and I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed. Sure, she looks good, the video is ok, and it has two really hot guys in it, but it's just kind of... meh. In the video, Brit classes it up as the object of affection of a rich stud, but she really has her eye on the hot stableman (don't we all). I guess I prefer the Womanizer type videos where Britney is decked out in hoochie gear, grinding and dancing up a storm.
The video is still worth a watch because, come on, it's Britney Spears. I still love her. At least she's "sane" now and not running around setting things on fire or anything crazy. For now.
Take a little punk pop, add some synthpop and alternative dance, and you end up with Cobra Starship's newest single Good Girls Go Bad. With help from Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester (sidebar...who knew she could sing?), the band sings about, what else, turning good girls into naughty ones.
Check out the video as Leighton plays a bad girl who pulls one over on the boys. She's apparently also following in the footsteps of the many other actresses turned pop stars (Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson, and Miley Cyrus, I'm looking at you) and coming out with an album sometime in the future. They definitely picked the best girl to play bad, what with Leighton recently becoming the star of her very own sex tape. Bad girl antics aside, the song is really catchy, perfect for the summer, and she actually has a decent voice. Check it out!
Kanye West Releases Artsy New Video for "Street Lights"
Kanye West continues on his kick of making music that's "art" by creating a new video for his song Street Lights. The song, which is my personal favorite off of his latest album 808s & Heartbreak, won't be released as a single, but Kanye went ahead and still made a video for it. What? You gonna argue with him? Good luck...
The video reminds me of those old-school virtual reality programs. Though it's not that exciting (it just shows a computer animated Kanye driving a car through a very futuristic-looking world), I still like it a lot. It fits the mellow and "artsy" feel of the song.
Jason Mraz is back with another version of his hit duet "Lucky." But this time around, Colbie Caillat must be taking a siesta, because now half the song is performed in Spanish thanks to the lovely Mexican actress/singer Ximena Sariñana.
Looks like they just spliced in Ximena's bits into the video and song that Jason had already whipped up with Ms. Caillat. It's a little weird, but the results are sweet. I mean, "dulce."Want a little more about Ximena? She's 24, lives in Mexico City, and her MySpace has some very charming tunes, including a nice strummy English ditty "Influenza Sh*t Love Song," which is kind of what happens with a sad love song gets food poisoning.
I know this one's been swirling around the 'net for a week or so, but it's so gorgeous I still had to toss up this video of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi." It's epic, at almost 8 minutes long! Plus, she's romanced/played for a sucka by True Blood's sharp-toothed stud Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), who's looking very fang-bang-able.
The glamorous mansion! The hot Malibu/Riviera/Capri-esque locale! Gaga's painted-on hosiery! The wheelchair? I'm reeling. Some serious money was spent on this one.
Of the "Paparazzi" video, Gaga told The Canadian Press: "It has a real, genuine, powerful message about fame-whoring and death and the demise of the celebrity, and what that does to young people. The video explores ideas about sort of hyperbolic situations that people will go to in order to be famous. Most specifically, pornography and murder." Ooooh... Deep. Ish?
IS Gaga really the new Madonna? A case is being made.
New video for Kelly Rowland and DJ David Guetta's "When Love Takes Over"
Kelly Rowland has teamed up with DJ David Guetta to produce this summer's hot new dance track.
Kelly Rowland has once again tried to step out of Beyonce's shadow (and honestly, out of Isaac Mizrahi's shadow on Bravo's Fashion Show too) and has joined forces with dance music veteran DJ David Guetta to make the new dance hit "When Love Takes Over." The two have produced what is sure to be the club anthem of summer '09 thanks in part to Kelly's big vocals, the sure fire pop melody, and infectious beats that make dancing to it irresistable.
I personally have been playing the song all day and will most likely have it stuck it in my head all weekend, which I am perfectly fine with. Kelly should start working on a dance album ASAP and have a club tour booked right after that, because I think she's finally found her music niche.
I love Regina Spektor. Her music is gorgeous, smart, lyrical and poignant -- and always has a daffy sort of quirkiness to it. She's like Tori Amos meets that chick from "Happy Go Lucky" -- which is a good thing.
Her new video for the first single from her new album is out. The tune is "Laughing With" and it's a mix of dire drama and sing-song optimism. And it's all about God, but in a sweetly personal, sort of goofy way. Maybe it's the sequel to the Joan Osborne classic "One of Us?"
I also love Regina because her tune "Fidelity" was used in those amazing gay-marriage/fight Prop 8 videos out earlier this year from Courage Campaign, which were inspiring and made me cry. Watch it and some other video goodness, after the jump.
Regina's new album "Far" comes out on June 23rd. Maybe it can be your rainy day/Pride soundtrack?
Watch the "Laughing With" video, as well as new stuff from Peter Bjorn & John, M83, Howling Bells, La Roux and more on Logo's NewNowNext Music this Sunday night
At least they can't say we rushed them... The lads at MGMT have finally released an official video for their landmark, super-awesome, always-makes-me-dance-like-a-happy-dweeb song "Kids." And it's creepy! Monsters! A crying toddler! Aloof moms!
But just when it gets a bit much, it turns into a bit of deliriously arty and nice animation. The band assures us on their site that no babies were harmed in the making of this video. But maybe some toddler psyches were damaged?
Have a look, then check out MGMT's site for more backstory, including how Mark Twain influenced them and how this whole "Kids" thing was born.
Just Kait is 17-year-old Kaitlyn DiBenedetto and her rockin' little ditty "U Suck" is perking up eardrums all over. How can you not like a smart-ass grrrl with a guitar and some punky attitude?
RuPaul's "Jealous of My Boogie" Video - Starring ChiChi LaRue!
RuPaul asked Hollywood's other big drag queen, porn empress Chi Chi LaRue to star in the official video for Ru's new single "Jealous of My Boogie." And Ms. LaRue does make a fun villainess, who apparently does boast a bit of Ru envy.
Here's a cute pic of the two on set. Ru's as stylish as ever in his dapper man-drag.
I've always loved, loved, looooved Amanda Lepore. And her latest video for "Cotton Candy" only makes me worship her more. It's truly the most fun, most glamorous, most stylish, gayest, and most searingly delightful thing I've sing this year!
The 1950s/60s romantic comedy Doris Day/Mamie Van Doren movie-poster styling of the entire thing is genius, and fits Amanda's deliriously femme fabulousness perfectly. And I'm even smitten by Cazwell as a dark-haired, goofily cute, Clark-Kent-ish romeo. Adorable! (I was hoping for a little Cazwell-tastic rap break in the middle there, somewhere. But you can't have everything, I guess.)
Also, the song is a total, toe-tapping, twist-inducing treat!
Basically, it's all the summer sunshine you need. Mwah!
Bisexual Lady Gaga's "LoveGame" Video: Sexiest Commute Ever!??
Everyone's favorite new bisexual, Lady Gaga has a new video for her single "LoveGame." And I have a few things to say about it...
1. Okay, this is next single? This is supposed to be my summer song? I'm not convinced. But then again, Gaga's tunes always sneak up on me after the 100th listen, and then they get insinuated in your brain and you can't get enough, and then someone hands you a shot of tequila and then... So. We'll see...
2. Those are so NOT New York subway cars she's riding and dancing in. Busted! But who cares! She's got the hottest commute ever! A subway full of ridiculously cut gay studlets dancing. All aboard, please!
3. She gets it on with a hot cop in a parking garage booth. Now, I'm really jealous...
Livvi Franc hails from the Barbados, and is collaborating with some of the producers and starmakers who've given us Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Leona Lewis and Lily Allen on her first upcoming album, coming later this year. But for now, just check out this juicy footage (above) from some recent fierce photo shoots, all set to her first single in the U.S. (on iTunes June 6th), "Now I'm That Bitch."
And by "bitch" Livvi means someone who's "Being In Total Control of Herself." See!? It's a positive term. Nice, right? This could be a breakout song of the summer, possibly maybe!
You'll see Livvi onstage on Logo's NewNowNext Awards (watch here or on-air on June 13th), and after the jump, check out her hot look when she rocked the runway. Ouch!!!
The Aussie duo Empire of the Sun is up for an ArjanWrites "Best International Crossover" Award as part of this year's lovely NewNowNext Awards. One big reason why is the tune above, "Walking on a Dream," which I hear constantly at my gym. You gotta figure if your song gets played at gyms all over the world, that's kinda huge!
Over at ArjanWrites.com, you can get a super-special download of the a remix of "Walking on a Dream." (That Arjan is sooo nice!) But it's hard to match the sheer crazy over-the-top color of the video. Makeup! Feathers! Japan!
After the jump, the video for Empire of the Sun's "We Are the People" which takes their costumes, eyeliner and crunchy glam to the U.S. Southwest. As dressed up as they wanna get, they're really just nature boys at heart.
Latina pop megastar Paulina Rubio is still somewhat unknown to mainstream Americans. But that's a shame. The big-haired, saucy, crazy, tarty diva is a genius when it comes to catchy pop, skranky outfits and shameless fun.
MTV Tr3s' Blogamole blog (best blog name ever) had the exClusive premiere this morning of her latest single, and I'm tres thankful. The tune is "Causa y Efecto" and in the video, La Rubio looks like a cross between Portia de Rossi/Carmen Electra and Lady Gaga. Better yet, she's into roller derby, and fancies wearing a dangerous-looking glitterball-face-mask, all the while romancing a cute skinny lad who she could probably snap in half like the feeble twig he is. Then just when you think it can't get sillier, she whips out a pony! Fantastico!
But the song is mucho sweet! Brava, Paulina!
After the jump, I've posted what may be one of the sweatiest, most shameless videos ever, courtesy of the potent Paulina! Get ready to get "Sexual"...
Katy Perry's latest (which is the fourth single, from One of the Boys which has been charting now for nearly a year -- oy!) is out, and it's a glossy celebration of excess, Vegas, feathers, poker chips, Elvis, casinos and the unnecessary stuff Lady Katy is known for. And it's great fun to watch!
Besides, Katy is presently traipsing around the world with her "Hello Katy" tour (she's hitting the big Life Ball in Vienna next week) so I think she's gonna be just fine...
At first glance, watching a clip of "homeless" people dancing around Thriller-style seems a bit dubious. Still, I think Boots is somehow mocking the ridiculous artiface of music videos and showbiz (and I do love her little shiny blue dress and bangly gold jewelry). Her tour through dodgy L.A. continues, and it's a twisted, cheeky trip. Plus, the song is hot!
You like?
Vote for whichever global artiste you think is gonna make the next big splash, while you're at it. And check out all the other killer new music ArjanWrites has to offer, too.
Meaning, who'd ever leave nice David Cook???? Check out "Come Back to Me" from our American Idol-winning pal. It's all backwards-y, like Coldplay's "The Scientist."
David must be happy about the recent gay marriage progress made in Vermont and Iowa, since he told us last year he was a big opponent of Prop 8 in California.
Two things though: Davey needs to tidy up that goatee. It's a bit mangey. And how the hell did that taxi appear in the middle of the woods?
I'm not saying you should have a risky or unsafe week ahead, but here's wishing you "One Week of Danger" courtesy of the rattily cuter-than-anything NYC band The Virgins.
I've blathered on and on about how I love crooked-toothed lead-singer/model-boy (and possible homewrecker?) Donald Cumming and his cohorts before so I'll spare you. We've interviewed the guys here on NNN.com before, and Logo's shown the killer queer thriller, Bugcrush, that he starred in.
So, just enjoy kicking off your week with a skinny lad in a busted T-shirt and jeans. No crime in that right?
Play safe, kids.
The Virgins' Donald Cumming, as featured in Black Book magazine. P.S. Smoking is bad for you.
Love's not the only thing struggling... I'm struggling to comprehend what's happening in Frenchie Naommon's freaky and kind of fabulous new music video for his tune "Love Is Struggling." It's on tonight's Click List music video countdown show on Logo (that's all I can tell you), and it's very Moulin Rouge meets the Lower East Side meets a Radical Faerie retreat in Edith Piaf's dressing room. Silly hats and f*cked-up facial hair are back!
Pass the absinthe! After watching this, I think I'm feeling Saturday's hangover... And it's only Friday morning! Fantastique.
See 9 million amazing portraits and pics of Naommon at his MySpace page. Someone's tres photogenic. Trust.
NYC-based troubadour Jay Brannan's got a new video for you. It's "Can't Have It All" from his recent release goddamned. It' got just what I like about Jay: heartfelt, smart and honestly raw lyrics; sure-handed guitar strumming and simply delicate melodies (and some nice strings, too); and lots of romantic Jay looking out over a dreamy night-time cityscape as the stars play the sweetest game of Pictionary ever.
Could some TV magnate put Jay's tunes into an episode of Gossip Girl so he can become uber-famous already? The guy deserves some attention!
Jay's touring around Europe this spring. His Paris shows are selling like crazy... Frenchie fans better snatch up their tix!
Lady Sovereign does The Cure!!! Well, sort of. With her new tune "So Human" she snatches Robert Smith & co.'s "Close to You" and lays down her grime on it, and the results are downright spiffy!
I have to admit, in the chorus I kept thinking she's saying "feels so gay" over and over, but she's saying "it's okay." Either one works, of course. Plus, since Sovereign's rocking a slightly femme/butch look in this one, and spending much of the video flirting with a pretty female showbiz reporter and then a sexy lady therapist, I couldn't help but get a serious lesbian vibe. Which I like!!
It's all very Sovereign channeling Pink-meets-M.I.A.-meets-Sporty Spice (yep, she still looks like her). Which works, too!
Anyway... Lady Sovereign's full-on new release, Jigsaw, comes out in the U.S. on April 7th; in the UK on April 13th. This peppy, festive, crunchy "So Human" romp may be my new springtime happy song! Thanks, Lady!
Hosting tonight's PopLab is gonna be the Pussycat Dolls' very own Nicole Scherzinger. She's in Slumdog Millionaire drag talking about their big "Jai Ho" video (watch it after the jump). And Nic also discusses gays, Diana Ross, her weakness for food, and how growing up she wanted to be Whitney, Mariah and Cher (um... so far, so good!!!). Watch a little bit after the jump!
That nice, waifish, mild-mannered, arty, young, queer/bi British singer (and sometimes-Burberry-model) Patrick Wolf has a dirty new music video!!! It's for his single "Vulture," from his new album, The Bachelor, due on June 1st.
OK, maybe the video's not "dirty" exactly; it's more suggestive. But it does feature Wolf writhing around in leather harness-y gear and little black briefs while being cuffed or gagged or wearing a gasmask-like apparatus. Saucy!
Watch it (and view bits of Wolf's nice bum) after the jump!
This one's soooo good. It's "Daniel" from Bat for Lashes, and their new album Two Suns, out on April 6th. In the video, Natasha Khan engages in some freaky tussles with black-clad art-ninjas. It's delirious and gorgeous. Sort of like the song!
And how can you not love a tune about the Karate Kid protagonist? (Thanks, Stereogum!)
Britney Says "Happy St. Patrick's Day!" Well, Not Really... But Watch "If You Seek Amy!"
Begorrah! It's the video for Britney Spears' "If You Seek Amy!" I like, I like, I like. Slutty boys with washboard abs writhing around while Britney prances around a suburban house in her undies. Yes, please! Plus Brit-Brit's hot little preppy housewifey drag at the end is pretty great. And a tweaky little bit of media jokery? Sure... If you insist.
Kind Monitor's video for their tune "Cairo" has played on Logo's NewNowNext Music the past two Sundays, and it's worth a look. The song is a winsomely melodic mystery to me, but I love its softly driving piano and the nostalgic Victrola-esque vocals. And the video? A dramtically shot black and white confection that's simultaneously inscrutable and beautiful and spooky.
Joshua Aaron Guthals leads Kind Monitor, and he and his crew have been earning their stripes performing around NYC and Brooklyn for the past year or two, sharing showbills with the likes of Scott Matthew (Shortbus), indie rapper Louis Logic and the burlesquey singer Lady Rizo. A show at Joe's Pub is coming on March 29th, but check out the Kind Monitor site or MySpace to get a further sampling now. There you'll also hear the world's most heartbreakingly sad rendition of Billy Joel's "Piano Man" imaginable.
Kind Monitor's Joshua Guthals (seated) spends some time in the shadows. Photo by Lauren Bilanko.
There's about a foot of snow outside on this fine March Monday morning so it seems like a good day to let the intricate strummy rock/choral sounds of Seattle's Fleet Foxes help aid the wake-up process.
Their tune "Mykonos" isn't about gay beaches or sun-bleached coasts or sexy Mediterranean types... But it is a beautiful rock contemplation on friendship and remembrance, in a very CSNY-vibe. And the video is a artful collage of color, motion and crafty paper!
After the jump, watch Fleet Foxes' gorgeous, supercool-ly animated video for their totally beautiful song "White Winter Hymnal," which is a much more fitting tune for this frosty morning. And don't forget your snowboots today!
N.A.S.A.'s Stellar Global Hip-Hop/ Electro Tunes & "Money" Video
N.A.S.A. isn't just for rocketships anymore. In fact, N.A.S.A. (as it relates to this blogpost) is the L.A. and Sao Paolo based DJ/Producer duo (Get it? North America + South America = N.A.S.A.) who swirl together elements of hip-hop, electro, baile funk and lots of other crazy noises.
Their debut album, The Spirit of Apollo came out last week, and their new video for "Money" is rotating on MTVU -- or watch it above! Check out all the Shepherd Fairey graphics! And what's more timely than a tune about financial misanthropy in these troubled times?
But what's really freaky is the staggering list of guest stars that N.A.S.A.'s Squeak E. Clean (who's Spike Jonze's brother) and DJ Zegon recruited to appear on this record: M.I.A., Santogold, Kanye West, Karen O. and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lykke Li, David Byrne, RZA, KRS-One, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Tom Waits, Method Man, Nina Persson of The Cardigans... And so on! Gaaaah!
Easy. Breezy. Beautiful. COVER GIRL! Yep, RuPaul is bringing the glamour in her new video for the single "Cover Girl," which you've probably heard on RuPaul's Drag Race, as it plays during each weekly RuPaul runway reveal (and at the show's end when the gals all prance around together).
Another video for the tune will feature the eventual Drag Race winner, but for now, enjoy viva-glamtastic Ru, a hot little red sportscar, some striding man-flesh, and the tune's producer, DJ RevoLucian (aka Lucian Piane), dancing around with a big hose.
Annie Lennox's new video "Shining Light" (in which she plays all the different characters in her own band - hot!) debuts on Logo's NewNowNext PopLab tonight at 12am ET, which prompted me to think back on this legendary performer. Also, her killer solo best-of CD, The Annie Lennox Collection comes out next Tuesday (2/17). It's bliss.
Annie's won 4 Grammys, 2 Golden Globes and an Oscar, and has been a viciously vigilant AIDS activist for the past 20 years. And she helped to redefine the role of women and gender identity in music (has any other female made a more androgynous splash with their debut appearance - see below)!
A hot collection of pics and a classic video after the jump.
Need some sweetness this morning? How about Ra Ra Riot's valentine "Can You Tell"? Cutest indie band ever, or what?
They're touring in the U.K. now, supporting their latest, The Rhumb Line, but they hit North America with some Canadian dates starting next week, and then they bop around America all spring.
Beyonce's been busy lately. Releasing her double album, I Am... Sasha Fierce. Cranking out music videos for it. Have you basked in the glow of "Halo"?? Posted your own "Single Ladies" tribute YouTube? Catch her butching it up for the "If I Were a Boy" video?
And there were a couple more events that kept her busy lately.
It's cold in NYC today, so I'm warming up with this sunny new video from Of Montreal. "An Eluardian Instance" is a hodge-podge of flowers, sunshine, happy clams, mountain goats and arty stop-motion visuals. Of Montreal's new album is garnering buzz, with the record and the band's queerish frontman Kevin Barnes getting a glowing homage from Sasha Frere-Jones in the New Yorker recently.
Watch a cute interview with Kevin Barnes (the tiara & dress rocks!) on a Dutch music show after the jump!
The guys from Chester French met at Harvard, got signed by Pharrell's label, and we showered them with love last spring when their music starting popping up. They were nominated for a NewNowNext Award at last year's shindig, for their tune "She Loves Everybody" and half the band, D.A. Wallach came to the Awards and whooped it up with us.
So it's nice to report that they've finally got a video for the song! Hey sometimes these things take time. Maybe it was the fact that this chick theyr'e hanging out with is so violent which delayed everything. Watch the video or she'll clobber ya!
Kelly Clarkson's Video: "My Life Would Suck Without You"
Kelly Clarkson's video for her #1 newbie "My Life Would Suck Without You" is out. Watching it I have several thoughts...
She looks good. I hate to say it, but whenever I see KC I'm wondering, "Is she gonna look chubby?" I personally don't mind if her weight is up or down; she's a real person and I like her with some meat on her bones. But the video is shot so stealthily, I can't figure out if she's carrying extra pounds or not. (I know. Shame on me.) But her legs look hot in those shiny tights!
The guy. He's hot. I wanna know his story. Is he gay (like people said the hottie in the "Womanizer" video was)? And weirdly, I have a hard time buying these two as a couple. Maybe the chemistry's wrong, but I feel like I'm watching Kel goof around with her brother or her roommate, rather than her bf.
Why the littering? Why throwing stuff out the window? Who's gonna clean all that up?
These four wonky lads from St. Louis are Ludo! And their zippy single "Go-Getter Greg" is pretty snappy. Better yet, the video is a colorful, cartoony tale of an overzealous guy who just wants to meet a nice girl. Of course, he's either a stalker, an assassin, or just a horny, lonely marginally unstable fellow, but there ya go.
Ludo's album You're Awful, I Love You got a big release last fall and they'll be hitting the road in February.
Given their poppy cuteness and all-around bounciness, I'm thinking we'll be hearing much more from these guys. Shouldn't they have their own Jackass-y reality show already?
Welcome to the big holiday week! This adorable video from indie-pop singer/songwriters Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson will help you ease into it beautifully. The tune is "Winter Song" -- it's from the pretty excellent Hotel Cafe presents Winter Songs release out now.
The album has folks like KT Tunstall doing "Sleigh Ride," Nicole Atkins singing "Blue Christmas," Fiona Apple doing "Frosty the Snowman" and other delightful females presenting new and old takes on seasonal songs.
This may just be the sweetest video you see all season. Animated, rosy-cheeked yet sad, wintery and also a valentine to friendship, love and survival. Stay warm out there!
L.A.'s Meiko is snagging some lovely attention with this nice tune, "Boys with Girlfriends." But is it weird that I feel bad for the big bear-girlfriend in this video? After all, the guy is kind of being mean to her! The dude should man up and call it quits and stop torturing his hairy beloved. Don't ya think?
I also think this tune would be cute sung from the prospective of a gay boy. Then all parties involved would have some real stuff to figure out.
If you're lucky enough to be in Honolulu, Meiko's playing a show there tomorrow night. And next Tuesday (12/23) she's doing a gig in her home state of Georgia (in Macon).
I'm also just really liking Meiko's classic throaty/dry indie girl voice. And lucky M also had a tune on the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy this past season. That means, expect more to come!
Brooklyn's Dan Ingala is the man behind Plushgun. And Brittany Snow (yep, as in "Hairspray" and "Prom Night") is the one in the black wig wielding a crobar in this lovely video for Plushgun's "Just Impolite." She's a woman scorned, but not for the reason you might think. Queer video plot twist alert!
I do think Brittany should have been wearing safety goggles when she was punishing that nice car, though.
Plushgun's full-on album, Pins & Panzers, comes out on February 17th. For now enjoy this clip, which follows our attractive cast around London and Paris.
Band-leader Dan isn't gay (I asked his publicist. I was curious.) but he's a big supporter of queer causes. And he lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn which means he's surrounded by skinny-jeans gayness 24/7. And there's a pic of him after the jump. Expect more from him here soon!
I feel like our "put on a show kind of girl" may have gone a bit too literal with this one, but here's the video for Britney's "Circus," the title track from our girl's latest, just released album. You've seen her do this one live everywhere from Germany to Good Morning America, but here's the official clip.
It's well done and Brit looks faboo. But it all seems a bit predictable to me. And do you think this whole set up was left over from Xtina's "Hurt" video shoot? (Or even Dolly's "Better Get to Livin'"?) Still, I'm loving the shower of sparks and shiny silhouette portion of the video. Pretty!!!
I do sort of wish she'd put her head inside one of those lion's mouths, though. Chomp.
And yes, those are of course Brit's own fragrances on the vanity at the beginning. The blue one she douses on herself is Curious. The pink bottle is Fantasy. And the blurry green one just off to the right is Believe. Just in time for Xmas shopping!
Those creepy electro masters from Australia are back with single No. 3 for their hit album, Apocalypso - and the duo's just as bizarre and somehow sexual as ever! The "Talk Like That" video follows a major fan of The Presets as she woefully plays the drums and, later, destroys a guitar. I really dig this song's organ, Phantom of The Opera-style sounds - although I still love "My People" the most...
Anyone have an interpretation of those brief subtitles, though? Perhaps an apology for not giving the obsessed fan the attention she craved?
Watch the last two Presets videos, "My People" and "This Boy's in Love," after the jump...
Miss Keri, baby... Oh, how I love that girl... how heart-broken I'll be if In a Perfect World... gets shelved. But I'm staying optimistic! As far as I know, Keri Hilson's debut is still set for early '09; and at least she's still putting out singles: Here we have Keri's double-A side, and it's a little funkier and more low-key than its "Return The Favor" counterpart.
I do prefer my "Return The Favor" - watch that video after the jump, along with lead single, "Energy" - just 'cause of my weakness for such danceable songs, but I like this side of Keri as well. I also dig her hair and her outfits (I believe Rachel Zoe dubbed those "tranny heels"!). But boy, did someone have his work cut out censoring Lil Wayne's part - such as his dreams of Keri's ... "tightness." OK, of course they censored that.
It is somewhat ironic that Pink's new album is called Funhouse, with most of her tracks referencing her getting wasted, getting into fights and getting over her ex-husband. In the video for her first single, "So What," we were treated to the singer's humorous depictions of rock star life, post-divorce (She's still a rock star, she's got her rock moves, and she doesn't need you, Carey Hart.)
What could be better than a single Pink, who is ready to rock (and rock tight shirts sporting her famously rock hard abs)? How about Pink making-out with someone as hot as her, AKA herself, in her new video for "Sober."
For Good Girl Gone Bad single No. 17 (or something like that) Rihanna got in front of the camera and did what she does best: standing there looking hot in a bunch of wacky outfits. Meanwhile Justin Timberlake takes his best shot at being brooding and seductive, and I just need to thank whoever added the shower scene! As you can maybe tell - this track could certainly have been on FutureSex/LoveSounds - J.T. wrote "Rehab" for Ri-Ri's record. Whether or not he had himself in mind for the subject? ... I'm leaning toward yes.
I will say one of Rihanna's getups is pretty great - the one with the sunglasses? - but it only makes a brief appearance. And I'll also say I still prefer my "Disturbia" - which you can watch after the jump...
As gay audience members probably know, former Destiny's Child singer Michelle Williams recently transitioned from gospel to dance ... and suddenly the gays perked up! Yes, Michelle's Unexpected solo album is Vocod-ed, Kylie-style dance-y goodness, and Michelle even hosted the most recent episode of LOGO's PopLab (which you can watch all online).
Actually "The Greatest," single number two, is a bit of an aberrance for the album; I'll even go as far to say it reminds of me a Gavin Rossdale song. But even so, the video, like "Break The Dawn," has some obvious gay appeal - in that it's just Michelle trying on fierce outfits, cut with shots of muscular, sweaty athletes, mechanics and firemen. Hmm! Here's Michelle talking about her love for gay fans:
This goth-y, synth-y pop-rock outfit has so much gay cred going on... where do I begin? Well, first some logistics: "Ricochet!" is the first single from Shiny Toy Guns' sophomore album, which came out this week, Season of Poison, as well as the first single with new member, Sisely Treasure. Want some juice? Sisely - who looks kind of like Bjork in this number, huh? - was on that Pussycat Dolls reality show The Search for The Next Doll. Was I the only one who watched that? You can still watch Sisely's exit interview!
In addition, Shiny's original female singer, Carah Faye Charnow, left the group after album number one, but later claimed the males booted her... but who knows? Anyway, this new song is cool, but so much darker and more metal than anything off of the group's debut, We Are Pilots ... I mean, “Photograph” and “Rainy Monday” were positively Euro-pop!
Besides performing at San Francisco's Folsom Street Fair - you know, the leather and fetish-fest? - STG has done plenty to earn some gay love: read about it all after the jump...
Doesn't All-American Rejects front man Tyson Ritter look a hell of a lot like Cillian Murphy when he goes buttoned-up? ...in a totally good way? Playing Operation and feeding the fish are both so much more compelling now...
But everyone loves that skinny kid, I know - although Tyson's a little "angry-angsty" for my tastes, as opposed to the preferable "vulnerable, gloomy angsty" - and Tyson does double-duty for the first video from the band's third album, When The World Comes Down: Rocker Tyson and Pleasantville Tyson go back and forth tormenting one another, a rivalry which ends in a lawn-side shouting match - and in a wife swap! ...and to think I thought the women were giving the eyes for otherreasons.
The British boys of Friendly Fires - who were recently in New York for CMJ and whose self-titled debut album came out in September - definitely have a talent for penning trance-y, 3 a.m.-dance-floor fare; the trio could slide right into that nu-rave category - right next to those psychedelic party boys Klaxons. And while FF might not appreciate cold categorization, the band's clank-y, synth-y, out-there kind of pop definitely recalls Klaxons ... certainly not a bad thing!
And for the group's second single, lead singer Ed Macfarlane promises his girlfriend greener pastures in Paris once he starts making money. Meanwhile the boys play with a kaleidoscope camera, waving umbrellas, Swiss balls, fluorescent lights - still not nu-rave! - and confetti.
Watch the group's first single, "Jump in The Pool," after the jump - and check back soon for our video interview with the Friendly boys!
It's Election Day and I know you've already voted (or are on your way, right?). So here's some feel-good music to inspire you from NYC-based soul sister Deepa Soul and a collective she assembled called Independent Artists for Change. You know Deepa from powerful vocals on hot dance tracks and maybe from her 9/11 themed tribute "9/11 - I Can't Breathe."
Deepa is still deep into her activism, and the new song "Stand Together" is both a collaboration with a massive group of independent music artists (many of them queerly fabulous and familiar -- like Kevin Aviance, Ari Gold, Jason Walker, Miss Peppermint, Inaya Day for starters) and a call to action.
With this track, Deepa is launching Solution Evolution, a project aimed to end poverty in America (for real!) and to allow indie artists to affect change and raise funds and awareness to help 9/11 First Responders and those rendered homeless by Hurricane Katrina, who are still struggling to put their lives back together. After the jump, Deepa can tell you more!
But check out the video. It's like a more grass-rootsy "We Are the World" for our brand new world (which begins today!).
