British Government Shuts Down Muslim School For Girls That Teaches Gay Men Should Be Executed

Students at Jamia Al-Hudaa Residential College for Girls were also reportedly told men should beat their wives.

A school for Muslim girls in England has been ordered to close after a former student revealed some of the homophobic and sexist lessons students were being taught.

Aliyah Saleem told authorities that students at the Jamia Al-Hudaa Residential College for Girls are told men should be allowed to beat their wives and that gay people should be killed.

“At least four girls accused of being lesbians were expelled during my time," says Saleem. "Teachers and pupils discussed it openly.”

She says she was expelled in 2011 for owning a disposable camera, though administrators at the Nottingham boarding school maintain she was "disruptive."

The Department for Education has cut funding for the academy's residential program, which account for 85% of the student body. Officials claim students lack “opportunity to learn and make progress and receive effective preparation for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life in British society”.

The school insists the decision is “completely biased and unfair,” and has started a crowdfunding campaign to privately raise the more than $240,000 needed to remain open.

Earlier this month, an American-born cleric who said gay men's heads should be chopped off was found to be teaching at another Muslim school in London.
