Nashville is about to sing its last song because the second half of the CMT series’ final season premieres tonight, June 6.

To say that there’s been a lot of drama on the country music soap over the years would be a slight understatement. From murder and gay bashings to car wrecks and a plane crash, some crazy things have gone down in Music City.

  1. Filming the “Telescope” Music Video

    Hayden Panettiere plays Juliette Barnes, a country pop superstar who is threatening to steal the crown from the queen of country, Rayna James (Connie Britton). The second episode of the series featured Juliette filming the fierce music video for her hit song, “Telescope.”

  3. Christina Aguilera comes to town

    The “Dirrrty” girl guest-starred as Jade St. John, a singer who is hoping country music will help rebuild her public image. The country tunes fit well with Aguilera’s voice so hopefully Xtina will return to the genre in the future.

    A pregnant Juliette dons a ridiculous disguise and hops on a scooter to spy on her ex-boyfriend, Avery (Jonathan Jackson) who she thinks is dating newcomer Sadie Stone (Laura Benanti). The scene isn’t shocking, but it might be the series’ funniest because of Panettiere’s criminally underused comic timing.

    Former rivals Rayna and Juliette finally bury the hatchet and prove they are dynamic duo when they come together to write and perform the killer revenge anthem, “Wrong Song.”

  6. Laura Benanti’s Crazy Ex

    Broadway star Laura Benanti had a recurring role as singer Sadie Stone who befriended Rayna when she came to town—too bad Sadie was followed by her crazy ex-husband. Sadie finally had enough and accidentally shot her ex dead in a moment that had fans clutching their pearls.

  7. Juliette’s surprising kiss

    In Season Two, Juliette’s latest fling was Charles Wentworth, a married British billionaire. When his wife discovers their affair she kisses Juliette revealing that their end game was to have a threesome with her.

    Layla Grant (Aubrey Peeples) was brought on the show as a new rival for Juliette and she also ended up marrying Will Lexington (Chris Carmack) before he came out as gay. Layla was later romantically involved with Jeff Fordham and when he rejected her she tried to drown herself in the pool at a party.

  10. Juliette and Jeff hook up

    At a record label party Juliette and music manager Jeff Fordham (Oliver Hudson) drunkenly sleep together—even though Juliette was dating Avery (Jonathan Jackson), who she eventually married and had a baby with.

  11. An Assassination attempt goes wrong

    Rayna’s father, Lamar Wyatt (Powers Boothe) attempts to assassinate Rayna’s ex-husband, Teddy (Eric Close) who is the mayor of Nashville. The assassination goes wrong and Teddy’s new wife, Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) is shot and killed instead. Never a dull moment in this town.

  12. Scarlett suffers a miscarriage


    In the fifth season Scarlett discovers she is pregnant, but the father isn’t her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Gunnar, but her quick fling, Damien. This complicates things for the recently reunited couple, until Scarlett loses the baby episodes later. She spirals into a depression, but decides to perform at a women’s health benefit where she tells the crowd that she suffered a miscarriage.

  13. Will almost commits suicide

    While struggling with his sexuality in the second season, Will contemplates suicide and steps in front of a train—thankfully he changes his mind and steps off the tracks.

  14. Deacon proposes to Rayna

    After a dramatic on-again, off-again romance, Deacon Claybourne (Charles Esten) finally proposes to Rayna in a moment that all Nashies were waiting years for.

  15. Will and Kevin’s first kiss

    Will finally comes out to Kevin (Kyle Dean Massey) who is a gay singer songwriter he’s been working with. The two share a passionate kiss and quickly become an item.

  16. Rayna and Deacon’s car crash

    During the dramatic season one finale Rayna and Deacon crash their car in a scene that left viewers wondering all summer long if the pair survived.

  17. Jeff Fordham’s fatal fall

Though he was disliked by Rayna and her crew, his death from falling off a building—while trying to save Juliette—in the fourth season was one of the series’ most shocking moments.

    Deacon is diagnosed with liver cancer and needs a transplant. His younger sister, Beverly (Dana Wheeler-Nicholson) steps up and during surgery one of them flatlines—but who? In true Nashville fashion viewers are left guessing until the next season premiere.

  20. Juliette finds her mother dead

    Juliette always had a strained relationship with her mother, Jolene, who was addicted to drugs and alcohol. Jolene comes back into Juliette’s life, but after Juliette’s ex-boyfriend demands hush money for a sex tape Jolene gets high, shoots him and then kills herself.

  22. Will Lexington comes out

    When a tabloid threatens to out the country singer, he calls a press conference—but instead of denying the rumors he publicly comes out so he can win back his boyfriend, Kevin.

    The series delivered another cliffhanger during the fourth season finale Juliette’s plane crashes while flying from L.A. back to Nashville. If you’ve seen any of the promos for the fifth season you know the answer to whether she survived or not.

  24. Glenn’s wig gets snatched!

    Juliette’s manager, Glenn Goodman (Ed Amatrudo) has put up with her antics for years and is always there to clean up her mess. In the third season Glenn is awakened in the middle of the night and answers the door without his signature hair. The moment left all of us Nashies gasping in one of the series’ best—and most unexpected—moments.

    Nashville is full of dramatic, over-the-top moments, but nothing comes close to the queen of country, Rayna James, being killed in a car accident halfway through the fifth season. Her death led to a devastating episode showing her family and friends trying to deal with her passing—and in a just world every Nashville cast member would have been nominated for an Emmy for their performances.
