It looks like Music City is just as dramatic post-Rayna James.

Juliette's (Hayden Penetierre) plane crash and Rayna's (Connie Britton) death were the main plots in the first half of Nashville's fifth season but now the relationships of the other singer-songwriters will take the spotlight when the country soap returns.

In a new trailer Scarlett (Claire Bowen) is unsure of the father of her baby, Juliette is afraid to get back onstage and Will Lexington's (Chris Carmack) relationship gets more screen time—for better or worse.

In the preview Will is smitten with his new boyfriend Zach Welles (Cameron Scoggins)—but out fashion designer Jakob Fine (Looking's Murray Bartlett) shows up to warn Will of his new beau. "I know all about your new boyfriend," Jakob says in the new clip.

This interaction prompts Will to be more suspicious of his mysterious boyfriend and after discovering Zach's possession of two separate cell phones he asks: "Who are you, Zach?"

Gulp.

When Nashville moved to CMT and Thirtysomething creators Ed Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz became the new showrunners it seemed that they were making a conscious decision to incorporate more LGBT characters into the series’ storylines. Trans actress Jen Richards had a small role as Juliette’s (Hayden Penetierre) nurse and they brought on Bartlett for a multiple episode arc.

Will Zach and Will's relationship last or will Jakob get closer to the gay country singer in the season's remaining episodes?
