John Constantine is one of DC Comics' lesser-known characters, but the supernatural investigator has a rich history: He was a major player in Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, and has had his own series for 25 years: first with John Constantine: Hellblazer and now Constantine, launched in 2013.

He was even played by Keanu Reeves in a 2005 movie, but the less said about that the better.

Now Constantine has been approved for a pilot by NBC, and if the TV show is faithful to the original comic-book character, we'll  see our first bisexual superhero on television.

Deadline confirmed NBC's interest in the project, which has been greenlit on the heels of Fox confirming its Batman-themed drama, Gotham.  The new project is helmed by The Mentalist's executive producer Daniel Cerone and written by David S. Goyer.

Through his sordid history, Constantine has referenced relationships with men and women, but as the character is something of a jerk (and we're being kind), they usually don't end well.

No word yet on who will be cast as the supernatural hunk from Hell or whether the series will address his heteroflexibility.
