NBC Kills "Murder She Wrote" Reboot

Murder She Wrote

Is this the death of the reboot?  If "Murder, She Wrote" can't survive, what can?!

According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC's long-planned re-imagining of the 80's mystery series originally starring Angela Lansbury has now been called off.  The series was supposed to be a "light, contemporary procedural in the vein of Bones or Fargo, it [would have followed] a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth (Spencer) who self-publishes her first mystery novel … [and her] avid fascination with true crime leads her to become an active participant in the investigations."

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the original star of the series had been less-than-excited about the update: “I think it’s a mistake to call it Murder She Wrote, because Murder, She Wrote will always be about a Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person," said Lansbury.

Was the reboot nixed in order to make room for more appealing intellectual property? Does the upcoming Wizard of Oz TV series have anything to do with it?  Who knows!
