NBC's "Truth Be Told" Goes For The "Straight Dudes Mistaken For A Gay Couple" Joke

NBC's new comedy goes for a "gay discount."

NBC's new sitcom Truth Be Told, the latest vehicle for Saved by the Bell heartthrob Mark-Paul Gosselaar, follows two straight couples that are that magic combination of neighbors and best friends.

Mitch (Gosselaar) and Russell (Tone Bell) are the kind of guys who overthink and debate things endlessly—though their debates involve the ethics of spying on your significant other's phone and how to explain death to your child when you're in an interfaith marriage. Did we mention Mitch is an ethics professor?

In the preview below, we see one of those debates is if it's okay to pretend to be gay to get preferential treatment.

When a gay car salesman mistakes Mitch and Russell for a couple, they guys decide to try for "the gay discount" and play up the affectionation.

Is this a small-screen version of I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry? It might be funnier than the Adam Sandler film but only because that's a pretty low bar.

Truth Be Told debuts Friday at 8:30pm. The car-buying episode hasn't been scheduled yet, however.
