Disney Sponsors First LGBT Family Day, Neil Patrick Harris Moves Back To NYC: Today In Gay

Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka have decamped to New York for good. The Hollywood power-gay couple —and upcoming RuPaul's Drag Race judges—arrived at JFK on Tuesday, when NPH tweeted “I’m officially heading East. My wonderful west coast days are done. #goodtimes.”

The movie is a logical one: Harris' series, How I Met Your Mother, has wrapped shooting and he's already in town to star in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway. Now we just need to stake out all the good pre-schools to see where they're sending they're kids and we're one step closer to being besties with the Harris-Burtkas.

Disney Destinations is just one of several sponsors for the event, which runs July 1 to 7. Others including Macy's, the Hilton hotel chain and Nickelodeon Suites Resorts.

The schedule includes Parents Night Out, a pool party and Nick After Dark, amusement park tours and outings around town. Booking through OutFest means families can save up to 50% over the regular rates for attractions and accommodations.

"Our organization has been working hard at not only promoting Orlando as an LGBT friendly destination but also at making sure we create events that bring opportunities for the community, its businesses and its members, said Mikael Frank Audebert, director of  Converge Orlando, the city's official LGBT visitors bureau. "Family Outfest is one of the many we have in the pipeline and we are extremely excited to be bringing this inaugural event to Central Florida."

Kate Neal and Shanako Devoll filed a complain with the Oregon Bureau of Labor and Industries (BOLI) last fall, saying driver Ahmed Egal shouted anti-gay slurs before stopping the cab and leaving them on the side of the interstate.

Egal called 911 during the ride and said the women were drunk and refused to pay their fare.

On Tuesday, investigators reported they had substantial evidence supporting the women's claim and would now decide whether or not to bring formal charges against Egal before an administrative judge.

Oregon law bans discrimination based on sexual orientation and regulators have been tough on offenders. In January, BOLI determined a bakery violated the rights of a lesbian couple when owners refused to make a cake for their wedding.

Half a world away, a cabbie in Belfast ejected two men after they kissed each other in the back of his taxi.

Tuesday night, university student Mark McLoughlin and his friend Stuart McDonald were in a cab when McDonald leaned over and kissed McLoughlin on the neck and cheek. The driver told the two lads and their female companions "to get the fuck out" of his cab.

"We were stunned," said McLoughlin, 19. "We said: 'Are you serious?' And he said: 'Yes, I'm not having that in my car.' So we just got out and left and stood at the side of the road and flagged down another taxi." He insists it was a harmless smooch between good friends and "wasn't anything erotic."

The cab company, Fonacab, is known for being gay-friendly, and recently sponsored Belfast Pride. "Fonacab is aware of an alleged incident taking place and we are continuing to conduct an internal investigation into this matter," read a statement from Fonacab, one of Ireland's biggest taxi providers. "We certainly would not condone this type of behavior in any circumstance and would not tolerate this within our organization."

McLoughlin said he didn't plan on taking the matter further and was "more or less happy" with how Fonacab handled the situation.

But a good Samaritan has stepped in to help bring a smile back to his face.

KVUE reports that Dr. Gary Cash, a local dentist who heard about the attack, gave Oppelman free dental reconstruction, including new upper implants he received on Friday.

“It's just been hard on the inside more for me than the outside, not because of how people see me, but how I feel about myself,” Oppelman says.

Cash did the procedure gratis because said he did the procedure for free because he has felt so welcomed by the Austin community. "I figured that's not the way someone should be treated from out of town,” said Cash.

The Victim’s Relief Fund helped to pay for a big chunk of the work, which would have cost in the six-figures range.
