Neo-Nazis In Ukraine Destroy LGBT Group's Offices With Staffers Inside, Nearly Kill One Activist

The attack came one day after 20 masked men attacked a gay gathering at a cafe.

Neo-Nazis in Ukraine attacked the offices of an LGBT group, trapping staffers inside and nearly killing one man who tried to stop the chaos.

Six masked men with iron poles and fire sticks threw smoke bombs inside the offices of Queer Home Kryvbas, the only LGBT group in the city of Kryvyi Rih, around pm Sunday night. It's reported seven victims were trapped inside, struggling to breathe as they tried to escape.

One activist tried to stop the men, but was hit over the head and beaten savagely. He is currently in the hospital being treated for a concussion.

The attackers had dispersed by the time authorities arrive.

Sunday's incident came just one day after almost 20 neo-Nazis descended on a cafe in the same city where a small gay group had gathered.

"One of the main functions of the state is to protect its citizens," said a spokesperson for Alliance Ukraine. "[We] appeal to law enforcement authorities with the demand not only to punish the guilty in these two incidents, but to also do everything in their power to protect the lives, health and basic rights of the citizens of Ukraine."

Just two weeks ago, masked attackers threw smoke bombs into a venue in Odessa where activists were discussing the banning of the city's Pride event.

The cancelation of Odessa Pride was ordered after demonstrators at a LGBT march in Kiev were attacked in June, wounding a half-dozen police officers.
