State Senator Proposes To Boyfriend Seconds After Gay Marriage Legalized In Nevada: WATCH

After a federal appeals court overturned Nevada's ban on gay marriage Tuesday, Nevada State Senator Kelvin Atkinson didn't waste anytime locking down his man: At a Freedom Nevada rally Tuesday afternoon, Atkinson surprised Sherwood Howard, his partner of over six years, with a proposal.

Though it sounds like it may have been a surprise to the senator as well: "I was telling my story and it just came out," said Atkinson, who memorably revealed he was gay during a debate on same-sex marriage. "I proposed to him on stage in front of everyone."

Atkinson expected Howard to agree to marry him, though he had to make sure amid all the tears and shouting. "He said yes!" he announced to the crowd.

The couple have been asked to be the state's first same-sex couple to get married, though exactly when that could happen has been the source of some confusion. Initially Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy only allowed a stay on same-sex marriage in Idaho. But the Clark County, Nevada, Clerk's office tweeted that "the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples is on hold due to pending motions in the courts."

But, at 11:30am on Thursday, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported that the Coalition for the Protection of Marriage has withdrawn its motion to stop the decision from taking effect.

At 2:30pm, Anderson posted on Facebook, "Well, finally, licenses to begin shortly!!!!!"

Check out Atkinson's proposal below.
