Trick or Gay Cruise! Why choose? Atlantis, who you already know for their out-of-this-world gay party cruises, will initiate their first ever Halloween journey on October 28th, 2012. Leaving from Los Angeles, it’s heading to Puerta Vallarta Mexico, with at least one stop (Cabo anyone?) along the way aboard a ginormous liner (with a 3 story pool deck!) that’s got room for 3000 hot costumed, halloween-partyin’ trick or treaters. We chatted up the director of marketing, Don Weiner, to get the dish on what to expect. And yes, we held the Titanic jokes.
1—Atlantis always puts together fab packages and we’re really excited about the October one – but what took so long to do Halloween?! Seems a natural fit!
The stars just aligned in our favor this year and we had an amazing ship become available that just happened to fall on Halloween week.
2—Why did you decide on Mexico for this one?
October has traditionally been the time for our Mexican Riviera Cruise. We’ve done one every year since 2003.
3—The cruise goes to Puerta Vallarta and right after is Atlantis gay resort week in…Puerta Vallarta. Will there be a package that combines both trips? Can we do both Halloween the cruise and then chill out in Puerta Vallarta for a week? Will that kill us dead?
Yes, we have our annual week at the Vallarta Palace Resort for what we call “Club Atlantis Vallarta.” The resort week actually starts November 3 and the cruise ends on November 4. However, the ship will be sailing out of Puerta Vallarta on November 1, since it takes two full days to sale from there to Los Angeles. If someone wants to disembark in Puerta Vllarta and hang out for a couple of days until our resort week starts, they are certainly welcome to, but then they’d miss the last two days of the cruise!
4—By the way – tell us about the resort! What will happen at resort week.
Our Club Atlantis Resort in Puerta Vallarta is a true 5-Star luxury experience. There are two huge pools and it’s located on a beautiful beach, so you have your choice of where to work on your tan. And one of the best things about the resort is that it’s all inclusive. Happy Hour is all day every day! All food an drinks are included. Every room has its own bar set up too, complete with full bottles and mixers. You can enjoy a drink by the pool or in the privacy of your own room in your very own two person jacuzzi hot tub. That’s right. Every room has one! And the food as the resort is amazing too. There are several restaurants including Italian, Asian/Sushi, a Brazilian steakhouse and more. We also bring along the music to throw some of our signature theme parties.
5—Speaking of… Atlatntis Cruise parties are LEGENDARY and costume filled! Can you dish a little about what to expect for Halloween?
It’s too early to release any entertainer specifics yet, but I can tell you that since this is our first ever Halloween party on a cruise ship, it will be legendary! Plus anyone that’s sailed with us before will know that they can always count on a few themes that are a part of every Atlantis experience including our famous dog tag T-dance, our classic disco T-dance and our biggest party of the week—the White Party. And what’s going to make this year’s cruise really stand apart from the previous years is the ship itself. The pool deck is actually 3 stories high, with two full decks above to view the action below. And if we should run into bad weather, this ship actually has a magradome glass roof that can be opened or closed over the pool deck at a moment’s notice.
6—What makes a perfect Halloween to the Atlantis team? What do you guys love about the holiday?
As if coming on an Atlantis cruise wasn’t reason enough for people to create amazing costumes for our theme parties, the fact that we’ll have a Halloween Party this year should really get people thinking. But of couse with any of our cruises or resorts, there is absolutely no pressure to dress up either. Our guests have great time whether they choose to wear a lot or a little.
7—Will there be a haunted house?
No plans for a haunted house (or ship). Just lots of fun, great music and amazing friends.
8—Will there be trick or treating?
Our guests are welcome to enjoy as many tricks or treats as they’d like!
9—Any hints on the next new cruise Atlantis will add? What are you guys thinking of next?
Well, next summer we’ll have two great options in Europe, including our first ever to sail out of Amsterdam! We’ll release more details on next summer’s cruises soon.
10—And what else is Atlantis up to? What other fun activities do you guys have up your sleeves for this year?
Our 2013 season is off to a great start with the return to one of our favorite ships on our annual Caribbean cruise. We’re on the Independence of the Seas for the very first time, which is the sister ship to the Freedom of the Seas and the Liberty of the Seas. There are still rooms available but they are selling fast. After that we head down under for our Auckland to Sydney Cruise that ends just in time for the big Mardi Gras Party. That one sold out in record time, but we are accepting names for the wait list. Next, we’re returning to Asia for the first time since 2010 for our Singapore to Hong Kong cruise, but this year we’ll be on Celebrity Millennium, which will have just undergone a $55 million makeover. After that we return to Club Atlantis as Club Med Cancun. This is an all inclusive resort like Club Atlantis Vallarta, but this one has an amazing selection of sports and activities like snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, wind surfing, water skiing and you can even learn to fly on a circus trapeze.
