Plus “Grimm” moves to Tuesday nights, Cher brings her mom to “The Tonight Show” and Bryan Fuller is profiled on “Last Call with Carson Daly”
TV nerds have long followed upfront week, when the broadcast networks announce their fall schedules. Usually, that means reading about the showy parts of the presentation and hoping someone made a video they’re going to post online. However, according to The Hollywood Reporter the event is going to have fans attend. I already hate everyone there.
TV Guide reports that Jamie Kennedy has booked an appearance on the second season of The Soul Man.
Tobey Maguire and Kristen Wiig have joined the cast of the upcoming IFC miniseries The Spoils of Babylon, according to Deadline. The series is described as an “epic story” about a family whose wealth comes from oil but with Will Ferrell playing the Shah of Iran, I’m thinking it’s aiming to be the second coming of Fargo.
American Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe says he fights with sponsors over the nature of product placement, “people have a different idea of what integration means. For me, it’s a smooth, organic process, whereas for other people, it’s, ‘Hi! This is a Coca-Cola!’ ”
ABC has ordered six episodes of Sing Your Face Off which will follow celebrities as they train to imitate a legendary music icon, right down to getting made up to resemble the icon.
The online returns of One Life to Live and All My Children got hopeful news, the two soaps spent their debut days as the top shows on Hulu and iTunes.
Good Morning America (ABC) Check local listings
George Stephanopoulos has managed to score the first interview with Jason Collins since coming out and becoming the first actively-playing openly gay man in a major sport.
Anderson Live (syndicated) Check local listings
Dana Delaney is visiting Anderson and guest co-host Vivica A. Fox. Delaney brings Anderson a “Salty Pimp” from Big Gay Ice Cream. and talks about growing up next to Anderson’s mom Gloria Vanderbilt. I’m guessing that means Delaney coems from a wealthy family.
Days of Our Lives (NBC) Check local listings
Can we get a Days spin-off about Kristen giving advice to children she doesn’t know? That would be amazing. While Eileen Davidson mines drama out of opening an envelope, Sonny and Sami have to make a quick escape from Nick’s bedroom.
New Girl (Fox) 8:58 PM ET
Styles Stilinski may be ridiculously overlooked in the romance deparment but on New Girl, Dylan O’Brien is playing the guy who was Jess’ (Zooey Deschanel) first sexual partner. I think that makes Jess wiser than Lydia Martin or Derek Hale. Tonight’s episode isn’t just about the promise of Dylan O’Brien playing guitar, singing and losing his shirt (though, let’s be honest, highlight) it’s part of an episode where the whole gang remembers how each of them lost their virginity. Be sure to note the early start time. I guess Fox thinks New Girl fans can be convinced to watch Gordon Ramsay yell at people if forced.
The Mindy Project (Fox) 9:30 PM ET
Why should Mindy be the only one with a terrible love life? Danny’s ex-wife (Chloe Sevigny continuing to work to make sure we don’t remember her for Big Love) returns thanks to Morgan putting a letter that Danny never meant to be read in the mail.
Awkward. (MTV) 10:00 PM ET
I think we’ve only barely seen Jenna’s dad this season, but he’s about to throw a big wrench in Jenna’s love life when he tries to talk with Matty’s parents about their kids’ sexual activity. That also turns out to be how Matty’s parents find out he and Jenna are sexually active. What’s the title of this show again?
Grimm (NBC) 10:00 PM ET
To celebrate its move to Tuesday nights Grimm is adding… aliens? Or maybe there’s a glowing wessen that commits animal mutilations in the dead of night, like a… er, a chupacabra wessen? As much as I like it when the wessen aren’t the only troublemaking creatures out there, is Grimm ready for aliens?
The Tonight Show with Jay Leno (NBC) 11:35 PM ET
Singer-songwriter Georgia Holt is scheduled to appear on tonight’s show. Holt’s brings her daughter along, someone who goes by the name Cher. You might have heard of her.
Last Call with Carson Daly (NBC) Check local listings
Cult-fave TV writer Bryan Fuller is the focus of one of tonight’s segments. I hope it turns out Carson’s a big enough fan of the Fullerverse to ask when Marianne Beattle (Beth Grant) will show up on Hannibal.
