"Inspector Gadget" Gets A Facelift For New Netflix Reboot
Inspector Gadget and his daughter Penny have gone through some interesting makeovers in time for a reboot of the classic children's cartoon, set to premiere on Netflix tomorrow.
In the series' first trailer released this week, the whole cast seems to have undergone some major changes: Gadget's technology has been updated for a new generation, Penny has aged into her sassy teenage years, and Brian, the dog, has become more a sidekick than a pet.
Changes to the original cartoon also include a brand new theme song, chopping each episode's running time in half to cater to a younger, less patient audience, and giving the cast new technology that doesn't yet exist.
"Penny had a smartphone [in the '80s] way before it existed," original co-creator Jean Chalopin told Esquire. In the new version, she'll have a holographic computer that appears out of thin air.
Check out the new cast in the trailer below, which even steals a glimpse of the new Dr. Claw and Chief Quimby. The new Inspector Gadget premieres tomorrow, March 27, on Netflix.
