Music Monday: 5 Songs You Need to Hear Today

'Tis the season that keeps on giving…

NewNowNext spotlights new music by upcoming and established artists we think you should know about. Tell us what you think in the comment section.

Jax Jones feat. Years & Years – “Play”

Just when I couldn’t imagine Olly Alexander doing anything cuter, Years & Years has teamed up with English DJ Jax Jones on his new Snacks EP. “Play” is a fun electronic house track that’s the perfect light for these dark days around the holidays and the cartoon visual is a must-see.

Leland – “Middle of a Heartbreak”

Leland is not slowing down this year. He’s written some of our favorite Troye Sivan collaborations (“1999” and “Dance To This”), not to mention receiving an Oscar nod for “Revelation” on the Boy Erased soundtrack. “Middle of a Heartbreak” is a truly addictive electro-pop single and first peek at what’s to come from his EP early next year.

Grimes feat. HANA – “We Appreciate Power”

"We Appreciate Power" is Grimes' first new track since 2015's Art Angels. It’s full of militaristic industrial beats and according to Grimes, is written from the perspective of a “pro-A.I. girl group propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill...” Dystopian is the new black, but seriously though.

Kidd Kenn – “Icky”

The Red Bull Music Festival presented an event over the weekend with Chicago-based, LGBTQ-centric label Futurehood. Featuring some of the hottest local artists to watch, young rapper Kidd Kenn hit the stage that evening (as did Drag Race star The Vixen). Check out his latest single “Icky” and get ready to feel jealous that your weekends will never be this fun.

Betty Who – “Between You & Me”

Betty Who returns with “Between You & Me,” an acoustic-powered first single from her forthcoming third album. The video is also a fun concept, as Betty plays two characters that find themselves navigating a powerful attraction to each other. Going independent for the first time, the aptly titled Betty is due out in February.
