New Member Of The X-Men Comes Out As Gay

No, not Jean Grey.  Not Cyclops. Not even Beast (though we've read the slash fiction): The latest member of the X-Men to come out as gay is... Benjamin Deeds!

Now you may not have heard of this mutant shapeshifter, who currently appears in writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Chris Bachalo's Uncanny X-Men. But he's the latest X-man to burst through the comic-book closet door—joining other out Children of the Atom like Karma and Northstar—in a scene in Uncanny X-Men #14, which dropped today.

"Continuing with Marvel’s rich tradition of character development and storytelling, this shape-shifting mutant can alter his appearance to mimic anyone he is in close proximity with,"  Marvel spokesman Joe Taraborrelli, Sr.  told The Huffington Post. "The fact that Ben has come out as homosexual is just a small facet of who he is and what he is going to bring to Cyclops’ select team of X-Men."

While Deeds might not be as legendary as Magneto or Professor X, I can't wait to see if Benjamin and Northstar will have a super-hero kiki.

Check out Deeds' reveal when "Uncanny X-Men #14" drops this week!
