Lance Bass is sharing more details about the arduous coming out process he experienced with his 'N Sync bandmates during the group's heyday, admitting in a new interview with HuffPost Live that he once feared being hated and ostracized if they ever found out.

The 35-year-old newlywed has previously said Joey Fatone was the first bandmate he came out to. Sitting beside new husband Michael Turchin, he explains it happened purely by circumstance and not by choice:

When I announced to him that I was gay, it was my first boyfriend that I had for just a couple weeks…

Joey walked into my office and my boyfriend was just sitting on my lap at the computer, and of course straight guys don't sit on people's laps when you're on the computer. And he walked in and was like 'Oh!'

Bass says he came out at that moment to Fatone, the second person to ever hear he was gay, with a simple "Surprise! I'm gay!"

"It was crazy having to hide yourself from everyone, and [it was] a very lonely time also," he said. "You don't want to hurt your family or embarrass anyone, but also with 'N Sync, I had four of my best friends with me and their careers in my hands. I thought if anyone found out I was gay, we'd be the most hated band in the world, and the guys would hate me and I'd be kicked out of the group."

Eventually, he says he came out to each of his bandmates individually at different times when he was ready and they were all very supportive. "They weren't surprised when I told them," he laughs. "But they were so supportive."

A new 90-minute E! special documenting Bass and Turchin's recent wedding is said to be the first ever televised celebrity same-sex wedding. Lance Loves Michael: The Lance Bass Wedding premieres tonight at 8pm on the E! network.
