Levi Johnston Playgirl Shoot Updates: He's Got a Smooth Butt! And We Have Hockey Stick Action!!!
OK, I admit it. Levi looks darn good at the Fleshbot Awards in NYC last night.
Right now at the Eagle Studios in NYC, over at 30th Street and 8th Avenue, Levi Johnston is airing out his man-parts for Playgirl photographer Greg Weiner, and soon, for all of the free world to enjoy. It's happening!!!
I'm getting reports from Playgirl's Daniel Nardicio that Johnston is doing great. And here are few more tidbits:
I made a joke yesterday about Johnston's "hairy butt." But I've gotten updated text messages from Nardicio stating to the contrary, that Johnston's backside is "smooth, like a Sade song." Amazing.
When I asked how the now-much-questioned Johnston weiner is looking, Nardicio gallantly responded: "They partitioned it off. The nude part [of the photo shoot]. Not his wiener."
And then this update: "WE GOT HOCKEY SHOTS! NAKED WITH THE STICK!"
This is beyond silly and insane... More after the jump!!!
But Page Six whipped up a bit of gossip today saying that the Playgirl folks had wanted to shoot some nudie shots of Johnston's johnson at the allegedly upscale Hotel on Rivington (that gleaming beacon of nouveau Lower East Side swank-ish-ness downtown) but couldn't afford to pay for the space. Ya think?
Well, Playgirl's PR-gun, and the maestro helping organize Levi's full-monty moment is saying otherwise, also responding to a Gawker post about it. In an email Nardicio explains that yes, they tried to bargain with the Hotel on Rivington folks, and it went something like this:
"The reason we offered them below market is because i saw the space and it was banged up looking," says Nardicio. "They wanted an outrageous amount of money for a space that I thought would be nice but was, during daylight hours when we planned on using it, looking pretty used."
"So I figured we could photoshop out the smudged windows and scuffed floors and make it look nice, but I'm not paying top dollar for it. As per usual, Page Six was wrong and the Rivington was trying to get a little press out of it."
But where will Levi's wang get its big close-up? One commenter on Gawker suggested: The Lady Gaga "Bad Romance" set is now unoccupied... I'm sayin, there's already deer heads on the wall and a giant bed and everything!
Point well taken!
Some glossy Hotel on Rivington pics after the jump. Look for smudges!
Photos: Levi Johnston Arrives in NYC; All Aboard the Playgirl Bait Bus!
Levi Johnston arrives at Newark airport on Saturday night (via Alaska Airlines, of course); his big Playgirl photo shoot is set for this coming Friday. All photos by Todd Kancar.
Here are some entertaining pics of political prodigal man-child Levi Johnston arriving in NYC (via Newark airport) this past Saturday night. The shade-sporting, soon-to-bare-all hockey-pup was accompanied by his rather large manager Tank Jones, and greeted upon arrival by Playgirl magazine spokesperson and NYC nightlife impresario Daniel Nardicio. And, a few reporter types from TMZ, Entertainment Tonight, Life & Style, etc.
Nardicio brought his notorious Playgirl van (which has its own stories to tell) to squire Johnston into the city, where no doubt the Palin nemesis will continue his serious workout regime before baring his junk for the Playgirl cameras this coming Friday. Which begs the question: Can this gig actually live up to the hype? And how long will Johnston's comfort level with this d*ck-dangling circus last, do you think?
Here's some more info from the airport press frenzy: Evidently, the FIRST question Levi got from the press in the airport was from Life & Style Magazine, and the reporter asked, "Levi, how do you feel about Playgirl being for gay men?" Levi's answer was a drama-free "Whatever." And his manager Tank Jones responded: "WHO THE F**K CARES? We're all the same underneath!"
This Week In Fabulous 11/6: Comedians Turned Models, Justice Being Served and Gays In Charge!
The Fierce One himself hopes you had a fabulous week!

Well, it's been a sort of eventful week in regards to gay politics this week. I'm making sure that we focus on everything fabulous and awesome that happened this week!
5. Joel McHale gets his model on in GQ.
Zoolander much?
I've always thought funny man Joel McHale is not only hilarious but quite cute as well. The host of E!'s The Soup and the star of the new NBC show Community appeared in a spread in the recent issue of GQ and is looking quite dapper. More of this McHale.
Fierce Halloween outfits, sexy A-list stars and amazing gay politicians after the jump!
Levi Johnston's Playgirl Shoot Just 8 Days Away! Plus, Classic Playgirl Covers: Travolta! Gere! Duchovny!
This just in: After getting his fake Twitter tweets mocked on The Tonight Show last night, Levi Johnston is moving forward and getting all set to drop trou and wave his babymaker at all of gaydom (and presumably a handful of interested straight females) in about 8 days! Yep, Levi's gonna whip it out for the Playgirl magazine cameras at a photo shoot slated to occur in NYC on either November 13th, 14th or 15th, says Playgirl spokesman (and NYC party-meister) Daniel Nardicio.
“We’ve finally finished working out the details, and we’re very excited to have Levi in NYC for a series of shoots- some nude, some semi nude.” Says Nardicio. “I’ve been scouting locations for the shoot, and have found some unique and exciting spots. And to the question of whether or not there will be nudity, we have been assured that yes, there will be nudity.”
Earlier today, Nardicio sent out an email also stating: "As to locations, Playgirl will remain mum, so as not to cause any problems during the shoot." And as to the report in today's Page Six about Johnston speaking to the magazine about the size of his penis, Nardicio waves that off as "rubbish." "We've never spoken to Levi about the size of his penis and trust me, we have no concerns as to whether it's big enough and if we did, we wouldn't be telling Page Six about it," says Nardicio.
Handy factoid: Levi's spread (ahem) will be shot by esteemed photographer Greg Weiner. Yes, Weiner.
Levi's got some big yellow thongs to fill if he's gonna measure up to hairy-lipped Playgirl studs of yesteryear... Classic!
After the jump, a ridiculous trip down memory lane of past Playgirl covers. Stallone! Travolta! Streep! Fonda! Duchovny! And lots of Lorenzo Lamas.
The Best Global Destination winner is Rio de Janeiro. I've never been but I know it's all about the Carnival madness and sex, sex, sex. At least in my imagination it is.
The Daily Show Covers the DC March: Gay Ninjas? Radical Agendas! An AWOL Fox News!
The fab gay-loving folks at The Daily Show (no homo) served up their coverage of Sunday's big National Equality March in DC, in which Jon Stewart and co. called Fox News to task for not covering it, and just making fun of anyone who's still not aware of the necessity and simple validity of LGBT folks' campaign for equal rights. God(dess) bless 'em!
They also sent their very funny correspondent John Oliver there on the ground to expose the "radical gay agenda" for what it is: A bunch of nice folks who just wanna be loved and treated equally. God**mn those sneaky gays!!!
Shepard Fairey's "Love Unites" Posters Get Celeb Makeovers for Charity: Cheyenne, Reichen, Milo, More!
Reichen Lehmkuhl's sassy collage can be yours!
Supercool and politically liberal artist Shepard Fairey (of the famous "Obama/HOPE" poster) has joined forces with some good gay charity folks, lead by FAIR (an LGBT grass-roots group) to allow his fab gay-marriage poster, "Defend Equality / Love Unites" to get some cool celeb makeovers!
Big-time stars like Julia Roberts, Robert DeNiro, Ellen and Portia, Scarlett Johansson and gay-beloved folks like Cheyenne Jackson, Lance Bass, Sarah Silverman (and her show's cast), Marc Jacobs, Reichen Lehmkuhl, Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia and others have either autographed or gotten downright crafty with the famous image.
These newly revamped posters are being auctioned off on November 12th with proceeds going to benefit grassroots organizations fighting for marriage equality in California and across the country. Nice, right?
Bulldogs for Gay Marriage Equality!!!! Woof! Watch Video!
My favorite speaker at the big National Equality March and Rally? No question: Urvashi Vaid. Her fervor and spirit and wisdom and almost radical-sounding and super-passionate directive is inspiring and just totally kick-ass.
Commenting on Vaid's words from the podium, one commenter on 365Gay.com's live coverage noted: "Urvashi is the most terrifying Lesbian in America, if she can't convince people that we deserve equal rights I don't know who can." That's why I love her!
Chicken Rules Roost at National Equality March! In Heels!!!
So many amazing moments and images from Sunday's National Equality March in Washington, DC. One of them: The chicken guy in heels!!! He was everywhere, must have posed for 9,000,000 photos and was darling. AND, he did the entire long march in those hot pink pumps!
And of course his sign summed up what we're all feeling about Obama and gay rights perfectly right now. Bwok, Bwok!!!
The cast of Broadway's Hair took the stage at the National Equality March and Rally yesterday, toward the end around 5pm. The sun was beaming down on the Capitol and the hundreds of thousands gathered there, and when the gorgeous cast members belted out "Let the Sun Shine In" it was pretty amazing. Get a small sample above!
Hair's Gavin Creel led his crew of Broadway Impact activists (a group of theater professionals from NYC), bringing buses of people to the march and rallying support for the march. Gavin also tweeted nonstop; you can review his posts from the live coverage still viewable on 365Gay.com.
Sunday's March: Lady Gaga, Cynthia Nixon, Lots of Inspiration & Youthful Energy
Yesterday's National Equality March in D.C. drew easily 200,000. I was there (we covered it live on 365Gay.com) and it was a pretty exuberant day. There were inspiring calls to actions by the rally speakers, and amazing signs with hilarious, sharp slogans toted as a couple hundred thousand gay rights supporters marched to the Capitol. And yep, Lady Gaga took the stage before the roaring masses, proclaimed it to be "the single most important moment in my career," and then spoke to the President, "Obama, I know you're listening!"
But what really was amazing was the range of the people who turned out. So many young people, from about 16 up. And some gays in their 80s! Also, there were many many straight couples out supporting LGBT rights... You couldn't peg the demographic as just white gay men. It was truly an impressive mix.
At the National Equality March: The kids are all right.
I'm gonna have more pics coming today... Click through or look below to watch Cynthia Nixon speaking.
We're at the National Equality March in DC! Join Us Over at 365Gay.com!
A mini-March of LGBT student activists yesterday, Sat. Oct 10, at the Capitol. Today's gonna be MUCH bigger.
Hi from DC! A bunch of us from Logo are here for the National Equality March, live-blogging and tweeting today. Head over to 365Gay.com for the coverage!
I attended the HRC National Dinner last night; President Obama spoke, said he was "honored to be opening for Lady Gaga," said he'd said he'd sign the hate crimes bill this week and vowed to end "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and fight for LGBT rights. We'll see...
Obama and Lady Gaga last night at the HRC shindig.
More coverage to come! Watch the March on C-Span today from 2-5pm EST.
Sunday's National Equality March & 1993's March on Washington; Glam Celebs & Lots to Gripe About!
Cybill Shepherd (center) marched with the gays back in 1993. She was one of our first, great straight allies back then!
As you read this, folks are already heading down to Washington DC from all over for this weekend's big gay events. Hopefully, Sunday's National Equality March will be huge and impactful. And maybe President Obama will have something of substance to say about gay rights and equality on Saturday night when he speaks at the big HRC National Dinner.
And yes, there are gonna be celebs at the HRC dinner and probably at the March. Lady Gaga is slated to be at both. And chances are you'll spot the likes of Alan Cumming or maybe Cynthia Nixon. And so much of it all sounds weirdly familiar to that March on 1993. We've got a President who's made promises to us, and has yet to deliver. And as it did then, the time now seems prescient and urgently right for us to get some equal treatment.
A digression: What will Lady Gaga wear to meet Obama? Or at the March? The mind reels...
Levi Johnston Posing for Playgirl? Do You Wanna See "It"???
Is Levi Johnston, here with a certain gay-loving ladyfriend, some kinda media genius?
So important news today, like... "WILL WE GET TO SEE LEVI JOHNSTON'S JOHNSON???" Yes, America. It's come to this...
Should we be amused that Levi Johnston, the boy who impregnated Sarah Palin's kid, is now a ridiculous pistachio-pushing celebrity? Does all of his sort of trashy media coverage take some of the wind out of the GOP's blustery sails? Or does the fact that we even report that this guy will get buff and strip down for a few bucks for Playgirl say bad things about us? Or is he perhaps some kind of media-manipulating genius?
Whattya think? And who knew Playgirl was still around? (Personally, I'm thrilled they are, but... Just asking.)
Bob Mould & Richard Morel Plan to BlowOff D.C. This Saturday! Get an Exclusive Remix Download Now!
Since from now thru Sunday it's all about the National Equality March in D.C., I thought you might like a little primer of one of the best parties set to steam things up in Washington come Saturday night.
Punk rock legend Bob Mould and DJ/Producer extraordinaire Richard Morel have been throwing their beefy, sweaty BlowOff gay dance parties for a couple of years now. This Saturday night they're hosting a bash in their hometown space of D.C.'s 9:30 Club. Why not warm up for Sunday's big March and Rally with a club full of burly dancing men, eh?
BONUS: Musically, Mould and Morel have collaborated in the past, on their “Blowoff” CD, released in 2006. Now they’ve teamed up in the studio, this time to remix the “City Lights (Days Go By)” single from Bob Mould’s current album, “Life And Times." So, here, just for you, here is the link to the free mp3 download of “City Lights (Days Go By) - Morel's Pink Noise Remix.” Check out this video promo for the remix (and the BlowOff parties) below:
Also, for true Mould fans, the Bob Mould band will be doing a completely unrelated, separate show at the 9:30 club on Saturday night at 7pm, a few hours before the Blowoff party. It's Mould-mania!
Get your free remix download above, and get your BlowOff tix now. See you getting sweaty on Saturday night. (BlowOff, Saturday - 10/10/09, 11:30PM EDT, 9:30 Club, Washington, DC)
Lady Gaga Says "Get Your A** to DC and March!" Watch the Video!
You probably saw the clip of Lady Gaga at this past Saturday's Bootleg party in NYC where she took to the stage to rouse the crowd and get them to DC for this Sunday's big National Equality March... Right?
Well, here's a lovely (if blurry) PSA with Gaga again blowing her trumpet, rallying the gays to join her at the big foxy march in DC this weekend. I'm going! Are you?
Rufus Wainwright, Justin Bond, Top Chef's Ash & Mayor Bloomberg Turn Out for Gay Homeless Youth
Rufus asks the crowd to hold their appplause, just for a sec. Photo by Kevin Tachman/BackstageAT.com.
Last night in NYC Rufus Wainwright performed, Justin Bond hosted, Sandra Bernhard looked fab and Mayor Mike Bloomberg announced that he's appointed a big important committee to address the harsh issue of homeless LGBT youth in the city... This all happened at a big, festive fundraiser, "A Place at the Table" which benefitted the Ali Forney Center, NYC's outstanding non-profit that provides housing, counseling and other life-saving services for homeless queer youth.
The turnout was big, the spirits were high, the auction items got bidded on, and the crowd ate it up. They also noshed on gourmet snacks prepped by star chefs, including the totally fab Ash Fulk, still in the running on the current season of Bravo's Top Chef. (Fulk's restaurant, Trestle on Tenth, was just around the corner from the Chelsea Art Museum, where the benefit went down.)
Barack Obama & Lady Gaga to Share the Stage at HRC Dinner in D.C.!!!
As if having a huge gay National Equality March in D.C. this weekend wasn't enough, the gay-rights-minded politicos at the Human Rights Campaign are having their big Fall Dinner in town, too on Saturday night. AND, they've just announced that they've snagged President Barack Obama as their star guest!
Yep, the President will address the gays on the eve of the big March; but also on the slate for the HRC's big shindig: Lady Gaga! Yay! The possibility for photo ops are mind-boggling. And what will Gaga wear???
I think she oughtta just show up as the Statue of Liberty, but frankly, it's pointless to try and wonder...
Also, Lady Gaga told crowds at the big Bootleg party in NYC this past Saturday (after her SNL show) that she'll be marching in DC on Sunday. Kids -- time to step up your march wardrobe!
P.S. If you didn't see it, I'm living for this musical performance of Gaga on SNL. Maybe it's just the New Yorker in me, but it's fab.
Remember the Midnight Oil classic "Beds Are Burning"??? It's back, kiddies! And this time around a whole slew of global celeb types (Lily Allen, Fergie, Mark Ronson, Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard, Milla Jovovich, Bob Geldof, Duran Duran's Simon LeBon, Youssou N’Dour, Jamie Cullum, Nobel Peace Prize Winner Kofi Annan and bunches more internationally famous folks you may or may not know) have covered the tune as part of this big initiative and global music petition to raise awareness about climate change.
You can watch the video above, and get the full story at TimeForClimateJustice.org and at TckTckTck.org. The goal is to raise awareness and get a zillion folks on board the petition so that real progress can be made at this big U.N. Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen on December 7th. When you download "Beds Are Burning" for free, you sign the petition and add your voice to the cause.
These are some of the celebs whose "Beds Are Burning." Ouch! And who knew Milla Jovovich could sing? HOT.
“Ben & Jerry’s has a long history of commitment to social justice, including gay rights. Its partnership with Freedom to Marry, a national leader in the movement for marriage equality, aims to raise awareness of the importance of marriage equality and to encourage other states to follow the blazing trails of Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and Maine. Ben & Jerry’s aims to raise awareness of the importance of marriage equality and, to show its support, will serve “Hubby Hubby” sundaes in Vermont Scoop Shops throughout the month of September.”
And the Boston Herald notes: "In the meantime, a wedding-themed Ben & Jerry's truck will hand out free "Hubby Hubby" across Vermont today. Scheduled stops include the Vermont Capitol, where lawmakers passed a gay-marriage law that takes effect today.
Those smart folks at GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, which is the big national education group focused on ensuring safe schools for all students) have a clever new print-PSA campaign out to educate and curb the use of anti-gay slang among youth. It's part of their Think B4 You Speak initiative. (They also did the TV ads with Wanda Sykes and Hilary Duff a while back.)
I saw this reported on Wired.com, who dug the "Gamer Guy" version of the PSA above. But after the jump, you'll see "jock" and "cheerleader" versions, too. Nice work, GLSEN!
Check out more images and info from the campaign after the jump!
This Week in Fabulous 7/31: She-Wolves, Half-Naked Men, and Excessive Plastic Surgery!
HBICs Joan Rivers and Kathy Griffin don't mess around. Plastic surgery is serious business to these ladies.

It's time for this weeks edition of "This Week In Fabulous!" There's lots of famous bitches in this post, so prepare yourself for some diva attitude. Plus it's my birthday, so this post is extra special!
5. Shakira's "She Wolf" music video premiere!
Cage dancing has never been so fierce!
Shakira is back! The music video for her single "She Wolf" is here, and I'm glad to say that her dancing is still as hot and sexy as ever. You can check out a short "making of" for the video here.
I've always loved the Jackass and Wild Boys dudes. They give raucous, horned-up, crazy straight boys a good name. Johnny Knoxville is my dream man. And Steve-O, bless his heart, rocks a leopard-print thong like nobody ever has. Plus, he was on Dancing with the Stars. Yay!
This week, JackassWorld.com posted a totally fun video of Steve-O shooting an ad for the NO H8 campaign, which works to fight the anti-gay evilness of the Prop 8 crowd. Give it a look, above! "After all," he says, "The Wild Boys have been advocating for same-sex marriage for years!" Awwwwww... And Steve-O's bud Big Regg is hilarious!
Warning: The language in the video is very raw and totally NSFW. Watch out! As Steve-O puts it "Prop 8 is f**king bullsh*t, Man!" and "I kissed my friend's penis in Russia!" Good stuff, indeed.
You also gotta love that Steve-O keeps his dishy eye makeup on as he leaves the shoot. Attagirl!
NYC Celebrates Pride; Stonewall's Street Kids Remembered
Yesterday, New York City celebrated Gay Pride and the 40th anniversary of Stonewall with the massive annual parade and street parties galore. News coverage paid homage too, with a great editorial in the NY Times from Frank Rich about how absurd it is that 40 years later, gays are still second-class citizens politicaly.NPR posted a really nice report focusing on how NYC's disenfranchised gay street kids were among those who fueled the rebellion at the Stonewall riots back in June 1969. And they speak with Carl Siciliano of NYC's Ali Forney Center, which provides housing and services to today's homeless queer youth in NYC. The report also includes interviews with Stonewall veterans, and LGBT youth now working to survive life after the street.
Stonewall Veterans in NYC's big gay parade yesterday.
Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black was among the parade's grand marshals. He's been an avid voice for empowering gay youth, too. Go Lance!
Since everyone's in a Michael Jackson-remembering mode, why is it that some of my favorite Michael Jackson songs (or songs by "The Jacksons," or his random duets) don't have videos? Like "P.Y.T.", which may be the funnest song on Thriller. And I always totally loved "State of Shock" the duet with Mick Jagger that appeared on The Jacksons' 1984 album, Victory. And "The Girl Is Mine," Michael's 1980 duet with Paul McCartney.
Anyway, here are a few other random Jackson gems. Forgive the grainy video.
"Can You Feel It" - The Jacksons, Victory
<
"Can You Feel It" still rocks. And I think that Madonna totally stole the bass line for "Sorry" from this awesome tune. The trippy video (are the Jacksons superheroes? gods? aliens?) is pure 80s brilliance. And I always loved the cheesy, cartoony Victory album cover...
Michael Jackson remembrances are all over the media today (his autopsy is due today, too) and the tributes have surely only just begun. The man, who died yesterday, was an iconic pop superstar who influenced just about every musician working in the pop and R&B milieu today. His videos, especially from the Thriller, Bad and Dangerous eras were cultural touchstones. Nobody else had his moves, his style, his way of singing -- he was a singular performer.
As years passed, we all watched Michael evolve into a strange, mysterious figure that become hard to comprehend and relate to. His face and body changed dramatically, he faced charges of molestation (being acquitted in on instance, settling out of court on another), and he seemed to devolve into a caricature of a reclusive pop star and an oddity, and we'll probably never quite know all that went on behind the gates of his Neverland ranch.
For the next week, we can expect to endure all manner of tributes and freaked-out media-circus moments; I'm already morbidly intrigued to see what kind of funeral shenanigans will unfold. Bring on Latoya and Debbie Rowe! Will Macaulay Culkin offer a statement? Has Madonna stopped crying? It's all gonna be bizarre, no doubt.
But regardless of all the craziness and speculation that came to surround his persona, Michael Jackson did create some fiercely memorable, legendary music, revolutionary videos and his influence on style, dance, MTV, the 80s, and even how African-Americans impact culture is undeniable. So, in tribute, here's a random mix of his videos to enjoy.
RuPaul's Drag Race Hopeful Arrested for Assaulting Mayor! Meow!
And you thought Shannel was intense juggling on the runway!!!! The mayor of Mulberry, Florida (a nice little town near Tampa) was attacked by his live-in lover, who just happens to be campaigning to be a contest on the next season of RuPaul's Drag Race. Watch out, Ru! Chyna might be coming for you!
According to 10 Connects local news in Tampa, Mulberry Mayor Julian Mullis lives with his two kids, and his lover Eugene Ornelas. Early Monday morning, Ornelas brought a guy home from a club, and soon after he and the Mayor got into a argument. Soon, "articles" were being thrown (pumps? wigs? shade?) and the police were called. Evidently, it's not Ornelas' first run-in with the cops.
Ornelas is also known as the drag performer Chyna, who just happens to be putting his heels in the ring to appear on Season 2 of RuPaul's Drag Race! You can check out Chyna's pics, her video links and view her profile now! In fact, Chyna had been using her Twitter account to boost her votes. Attagirl!
Drag Race hopeful Chyna: Glamorous... and dangerous?
Sounds like somebody's going to be testifying... for her life.
Lady Bunny, Patricia Field & Cleve Jones Score amfAR Honors!
Hot host Alan Cumming and the amFAR-award-winning legendary Lady Bunny!
Last night in NYC, the esteemed AIDS-fighting/awareness-raising organization amfAR held its 10th-annual Honoring with Pride gala, in which the bestowed Courage Awards on three notables who've been fighting the battle against AIDS for years: drag legend Lady Bunny, fashion mogul Patricia Field, and long-time activist/Harvey Milk colleague/AIDS Quilt & NAMES Project founder Cleve Jones.
The shindig was held at the Edison Ballroom and was a pretty swank who's-who of NYC gay celebs, showbiz folks, fashion stars and all-around do-gooders! I went and snapped many pics, and rubbed elbows with Project Runway alums (Jack Mackenroth, Kevin Christiana & Christian Siriano), music stars (Debbie Harry, Ari Gold, Colton Ford), designers (Kenneth Cole, The Blonds) and all around glam types (Alan Cumming, Jenny Shimizu, Michael Musto, Cheyenne Jackson)...
Lady Bunny was the most garrulous award recipient, turning her acceptance speech into a rollicking and hilarious foul-mouthed monologue of zingers, teasing her old pal Pat Field, Flotilla, bragging that her hair was bigger & better than amfAR founder Dr. Mathilde Krim's, and generally cracking filthy jokes about servicing busboys ("See this trophy? Now, I'm an award-winning c***sucker!"). But truly, Bunny -- who founded Wigstock and has DJ'd more AIDS benefits than probably anyone -- has always, in her fabulously abrasive and smartly tart way been a champion of queer equality and AIDS awareness.
Chaz Bono -- formerly known to most of us as Chastity Bono, the lesbian writer, activist and daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono -- has courageously announced that he in the process of transitioning from female to male. That beacon of journalistic fierceness, TMZ, broke the news today, with a statement from gay uber-publicist Howard Bragman.
Quoth Bragman via TMZ: "Chaz, after many years of consideration, has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity. He is proud of his decision and grateful for the support and respect that has already been shown by his loved ones. It is Chaz's hope that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue, just as his 'coming out' did nearly 20 years ago."
Evidently, Chaz isn't planning any personal statements about his "coming out" as trans anytime soon, but maybe we can hope for a fantastic and powerfully trans-positive and enlightening Oprah episode in the near future, eh?
No word from Cher yet, but let's hope the legendary showbiz icon responds more positively than she years ago did when her daughter (who's long been known to friends and people close to her as "Chaz") came out as a lesbian. When that happened, Cher admits she "flipped out" and was not immediately supportive. Do we think Cher will issue a statement soon?
Chaz with Cher in 1998; and as a toddler with Sonny & Cher.
Either way, it's great to see Chaz stepping out and making the issues faced by trans people more visible on a national level. GLAAD and the folks at HRC have issued press releases (as they're wont to do) commending Bono's courage.
"How the Mormon Stole Everything!" Twisted Video Alert!
Not sure if Dr. Seuss would approve, but who cares??? Check out the twisted video, "How the Mormon Stole Everything," a loopy response to all the Mormons vs. Gays/Prop 8 business... I do believe I recognize the voice of the genius Jonny McGovern on this one, which is apparently also a sneak peek to the upcoming season of The Big Gay Sketch Show on Logo (which they just finished taping).
One question: Where do I get my paws on some of those "ass-a-madoodles" and "corkscrew-madiggers"???? Fagville, here I come!
Think this will ruffle any feathers? Prompt a resurgence of foam parties???
And does today's big Prop 8 ruling (ouch) make this even more relevant? Ayyyy!
Cynthia Nixon Announces Engagement at Broadway Impact Marriage Rally
Cynthia Nixon at the Broadway Impact rally in NYC. Call her Mrs. Big, perhaps?
Sex and the City's Cynthia Nixon is engaged and plans to get hitched! At yesterday's big Broadway Impact rally in NYC to voice support for gay marriage, Nixon announced she and her longtime girlfriend Christine Marinoni have swapped rings and plan to make it official! Nice!
Watch a great video of Nixon's empowering speech at Broadway.TV. And there's more coverage on AfterEllen and JoeMyGod, too! And yes, DListed (Nixon and Marinoni's #1 fan) is on it, too!
Other stars at the massive rally included Cheyenne Jackson, David Hyde Pierce and the cast of Broadway's Hair. And if you're a fan of Hair's leading man, cute out actor Gavin Creel, he's been blogging about the Broadway Impact marriage cause for awhile.
Sunday, May 17th is the big day for the AIDS Walk New York, when thousands of cool folks stroll through Central Park as part of the big annual fundraiser. It's always a great event, and shallow as this may sound, they always get nice celebs involved, too! This year, Hilary Duff is their go-to girl.
Wanna help out and walk with them this year? Go to AIDSWalk.net for all the details!
MTV's got a big new website, "It's Your Sex Life" spreading the word about safe sex and condoms and the importance of getting tested for STDs. Out lesbian and Gossip front-woman Beth Ditto weighs in with a sassy clip which basically sez, "If you're boyfriend won't wear a rubber, kick him to the curb."
Santogold tries to figure out what the hell "GYT" stands for. I like the suggestion of "Grimy Young Thing." Hot. (It actually stands for "Get Yourself Tested.")
Perez Hilton, Joy Bryant, Joanna Garcia and Soulja Boy are apparently obsessed with your pee. And what it can tell you...
But my fave is this cute girl who ditches a hottie right before they hookup because he won't wear protection when they screw. Her condom speech is a bit cutesy, but also kinda hot!
Later, Boo! I'm into latex!!!!
Happy condom wearing! Oh, and one thing... HEY MTV!!! How about some gay PSA's in the mix, eh???
On April 1st, MTV, MTVU, Logo and MTV3 will all air a big new TV-movie about one of gay TV's late pioneers. Back in 1994 Pedro Zamora because the first-ever gay HIV-positive man on TV when he was cast in the third season of MTV's The Real World.
Remember? The battles with Puck? Nice cartoonist Judd? Pedro's boyfriend and his struggles? They're all coming back to TV in a movie cowritten by Oscar-winner Dustin Lance Black. Pedro: The Movie tells his story. Watch the trailer above to get primed.
Vogue Cover Girl Michelle Obama Isn't Afraid of Clothes
Michelle Obama's Vogue cover is getting the newsies buzzing. Above is a nice report from Anderson Cooper, with some hot quotes from Vogue's always legendary Andre Leon Talley (who put the piece together). And Michelle's sporting designer Jason Wu again! And some J. Crew, too.
And Gawker's got a great clip of Talley gushing to Wolf Blitzer all about it. I love Dame Andre! And even Blitzer decrees Michelle's look is "fabulous!"
Gay in the U.K. Vlog: Snowstorms, Stephen Fry, Queer History & More!
Those cheeky gays from London, Tim and Ryan, keep serving up choice vlogs over on AfterElton, so let's share!
This week in Gay in the UK the lads report on how Britain coped with their big snowstorm (they didn't!), gay history month, Christian Bale, Stephen Fry and Amy Winehouse!
Dave Grohl and wife Jordyn Blum at the Grammys. They heart gays.
Foo Fighter Dave Grohl loves the gays! No big shocker -- he and his old Nirvana buds were always big homo supporters way back in the day. And this past weekend, Foo Fighter Dave donned a white knotted ribbon while attending all the Grammy festivities, which evidently is meant to raise awareness about equality and gay marriage issues, etc!
E! Online reports that Dave's extra-vocal about it: “Anybody know about whiteknot.org?” Grohl asked the red carpet paparazzi crews. “You know what that’s about? It's 'I believe in love and I believe in equality and I believe in marriage equality.'” Nice. Thanks for fighting the gay (foo) fight, Dave!
Think we're gonna see white knots at the Oscars???
Courage Campaign is an organization working to encourage citizens to contact California's Supreme Court as they prepare to weigh in on gay marriage and Proposition 8. They're battling against Ken Starr and the case he filed in CA to defend the constituionality of Prop 8, which denies marriage rights to 18,000 same-sex couples who were wed in California last year.
Above is the video they created using real photos and video from Californians who got married, as well as their families, friends, co-workers and neighbors. It's amazing. And Regina Spektor's brilliant "Fidelity" is the perfect accompaniment.
Find out more at CourageCampaign.org, or just watch above and get teary-eyed.
What's your take on the whole Sam Adams/Beau Breedlove Portland affair< thingy? Are you still a fan of Mayor Sam? Would you have puts the moves on eager teen Beau? Boinked him? Not sure yet?
You'll get a good chance to ruminate on these questions watching tonight's big exclusive interview with Breedlove on Logo's 365Gay News at 7pm ET. In the above clip, Breedlove says "I do feel like it was inappropriate," looking back, anyway. Oopsie.
No big shocker here. Jon Stewart and The Daily Show crew, pretty much nailed all of yesterday's inaugural pomp and circumstance. Just watch and enjoy...
And below, Stewart visited with gay Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson, who delivered an invocation at Sunday's Lincoln Memorial shindig. And Bishop Gene is a hoot! He even one-ups Stewart with a "queen" joke. Attagay!
Michelle Obama's Inaugural Ball gown; and its designer Jason Wu -- with another of his muses, Amanda Lepore.
So one big reveal last night was Michelle Obama's gown! With a strap over one shoulder, a ruched bodice, fluffy appliques, and beads! It was foofy, not as sleek as some may have liked but... Props to openly gay designer Jason Wu for scoring the chance to design this landmark gown that will live in the Smithsonian.
Jason Wu is young, 26, and based here in NYC. And in addition to working for Narciso Rodriguez and launching his own line, Wu was a student of Tim Gunn's at Parsons, and he's gained renowned as a doll designer, creating dolls for -- get ready -- RuPaul and Amanda Lepore!
Big fat props to Jason (born in Taipei, raised in Vancouver)! And his own line is pretty stellar... Expect to hear lots more from him!
Breakout Star of the Inauguration? The LGBA Marching Band!
Everybody loves a human interest news story about a band of rag-tag musicians who pull it together in time for the big-deal parade performance! And amid all this Obama inauguration hullaballoo there's a great tale of how the gay marching band made it into the ranks of the Inauguration Parade this year!
365Gay News and Itay Hod filed the story posted above. And The Takeaway and Towleroad chatted up the lovely musicians making their big Inaugural debut. Suddenly, these folks are media darlings! Hurrah!
The Lesbian & Gay Band Association band is a collective of 150 queer musicans from all over the U.S. coming together for this big special shindig. Yes, folks it's all about unity. Obama even brings all the gays together. Nice, right?
Just FYI, they'll be playing some John Philip Sousa marches along the frosty parade route down Pennsylvania Avenue, and then some fierce tunes from "The Wiz." Bring it!
Tonight's All About Big Balls! Including a Gay One!
Tonight in D.C. there are 10 or so big Inaugural Balls dropping. (Heh, heh...) And one of the most fabulous will certainly be the shindig sponsored by the HRC. Out for Equality will gay it up at the Mayflower Hotel and feature performances by Melissa Etheridge, Cyndi Lauper, Rufus Wainwright, Dave Koz, Thelma Houston, Catie Curtis and surely some others. It's sold out, but maybe you can flirt your way in?
At the biggie, the Neighborhood Ball, Beyonce will sing the Etta James classic "At Last" (which she also sings in Cadillac Records) as the First Couple take the floor for their first dance.
MTV will broadcast live from D.C. tonight with "Be the Change: Live from the Inaugural" starting at 10pm, which will be full of dish and news from the whole crazy ball scene around D.C.
Grab a penny (It's got Lincoln on it! Oh, the significance!) and play along!
The fellows over at AfterElton are really turning it out this Inauguration Weekend. First, Brian Juergens unveiled the genius of "Obama Bingo" this morning. Print out the card and play along as you watch all the historical shenanigans on TV today.
Yes, today is an amazingly thrilling landmark occasion. But it also means TV folks will be talking nonstop live today, and undoubtedly it's gonna get wonky. Grab a bingo card and play along. More details on AfterElton.com.
All day today, 365Gay’s Jennifer Vanasco has constant Twitter updates from the scene in D.C. Are you among the throngs packing our nation's capital?
As you may know, HBO didn’t show openly gay Bishop Gene Robinson’s prayer which kicked off Sunday’s “We Are One” concert and inaugural kickoff ceremony. But AfterElton was on it! And it will be included in the rebroadcast.
Josh Groban gave a shout out to his backup singers, the DC Gay Men’s Chorus, for Sunday’s inauguration concert. He loves the gays!
In Dupont Circle in D.C., you can throw a shoe at Bush (a big effigy, anyway). But keep your boots on. It’s cold!
And Bishop Gene Robinson will be on The Daily Show tonight. Last night Jon Stewart recapped Obama’s weekend, including his 7-hour “express” train ride to D.C.
Enjoy some Daily Show video. (Sorry Philly!) More to come later!
Who likes a stiff drink? Our favorite lesbian newsanchor media sensation and superstar Rachel Maddow does, that's who! And she'll show you how to make her favorite, the "Jack Rose." Darn. Is there anything she can't do?
Not sure how recent this video is (it references her Air America show, but not the big MSNBC gig). But who cares? As long as Maddow is mixing up some hooch, I'm game for a belt.
Maddow's quite the taskmaster when it comes to mixing. No fake lime juice. And rock that shaker, ya big sissy! Oh, we love it when she bosses us around.
Maybe I'll mix up a batch of these for Tuesday morning's inauguration. Thanks New York Magazine!
