Nick Jonas attended a panel at OutFest in Los Angeles Sunday night to discuss his closeted gay character on Kingdom, and wound up fondly remembering the first time he ever saw a gay person in real life.

The 22-year-old former JoBro told the panel, moderated by out vlogger Ryan O'Connell, that his first brush with a gay came at the tender age of eight, when he realized a member of the team working the Jonas Brothers from behind-the-scenes was dating another man.

Nick’s father, a Protestant minister, was on hand to immediately offer some great advice.

He said, “One of my friends who was one of the guys in the show — his name was Mark — was leaving the theater one day and I saw him leave with his partner. I looked at my dad and said, ‘Oh, that’s different,’ and he was like, ‘It’s all love, it’s all the same,’ and it just connected with me immediately.’”
