Nick Jonas Says He Is Definitely Not A "Gay Cock Tease"

"I’m thrilled to be in a spot where I feel like there’s a lot of mutual love and respect."

Nick Jonas is prepping the June 10 release of his third studio album, Last Year Was Complicated, and spreading the word in a series of press interviews.

The youngest former JoBro sat down with Queerty this week and talked about the inspiration behind the album, his decision to boycott North Carolina over its new anti-LGBT bathroom law, his idol status among the gay community, and whether it makes him a "gay cock tease."

"No, I don’t think so," he said, choosing not to embrace the label as James Franco did last week in an interview with New York magazine.

"I’ve been pretty clear with my heart and my nature of just wanting to be as supportive of my gay fans as they’ve been of me," he said. "So there’s definitely not any cock teasing going on. [Laughs] If anything I hope I can be a real ally for the LGBT community and I’m thrilled to be in a spot where I feel like there’s a lot of mutual love and respect."

Nick's current relationship with the gay community notoriously began in September 2014, when he ripped off his shirt on a go-go box in a gay club to promote the release of his self-titled sophomore album. It was the first time he was accused of "gay-baiting" fans.

Asked whether he plans to make the gay club rounds again to promote the new album or his upcoming tour with Demi Lovato, Nick said, "Sure! It’s always a good time going and hanging out at the gay clubs. When Demi and I went in New York we had a lot of fun, so it could happen."

On his and Demi's decision to cancel two Future Now Tour dates in North Carolina in response to HB 2, Nick said the two "took into consideration the fact that this would be very disappointing for our fans that were looking forward to the show," but believed it was necessary to make a "firm statement."

"Sometimes you have to make these tough choices in order to hopefully see a change," he added. "We can only kind of humble ourselves and try to do our part, but hopefully we’ll see some good out of this very unfortunate situation."

Last Sunday, Nick's press tour brought him to Saturday Night Live, where he performed his new song "Champagne Problems." Check it out below:
